The statue is being created by leading public safety sculpture studio, Brodin Studios. The sculpture will be an artistic interpretation of a department firefighter, accentuating the details in a firefighter’s gear, the tools they use to help others, and most importantly the sense of duty and pride in their expression while performing their work.
The sculpture will be the centerpiece of a reflection area designed like a Maltese Cross, the universal symbol of the fire service. The reflection area will include brick inlay, benches, and a flower garden.
The sculpture is planned for installation in front of LFD's Fire Station 1, located off of the Lake Mirror Promenade at 701 E. Main St., Lakeland, FL. The area, a favorite with locals for its inviting and pedestrian friendly design, is ideal for the public to visit while taking in views of the department's largest fire station.

Purpose
Sculptures to honor and memorialize community heroes are common throughout the United States. Through a grassroots effort, firefighters at the Lakeland Fire Department (LFD) wanted to create a sculpture to do the same for the firefighters of Lakeland. LFD has been fortunate in that it has not suffered any active, line of duty deaths of firefighters. However, it was felt that the sacrifices and service firefighters provide is something that should be honored and appreciated. A committee of firefighters was created and through their efforts the project was designed to develop a sculpture to pay homage to the profession, with an adjacent reflection area.
