Tech. before the academic year 2002-2003 and detained in second semester have to repeat the whole semester with new course. In such cases, - If the students had studied his/her I semester with Chemistry group subjects will have to join II Semester New Scheme with physics group. However, they will have to study ELEMENTS OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING - MES14 in place of Elements of Civil Engineering - CIV23. Provision should be made to conduct MES14 theory classes and internal assessment test for these students by the respective colleges. - Students studied I semester with Physics group will be readmitted to II Semester Chemistry (New Scheme) along with the regular students without any replacement of subjects. Rejection of semester results A candidate if desires, shall reject the results of whole semester irrespective of performance of any individual subject. However, there is no provision for the rejection of results of any individual subject. Such rejection shall be permitted only once during the entire course of study. - A candidate can reject the semester results and can take readmission. In such cases, candidate should attended the classes and obtain new internal assessment marks . For such rejection application shall be sent to the Registrar (Academic) within 30 days from the date of announcement of results. - A candidate can reject the semester results by keeping the term attended. In such cases of rejection, Internal Assessment will not be changed. Not Fit for Technical Course

A candidate who has not obtained eligibility for third semester after a period of threeacademic years from the date of first admission shall discontinue the course.   However,the candidate is eligible for readmission for first year B.E./B. Tech. in any college of theUniversity. The candidate shall complete the course within a period of eight academic years from the dateof first admission, failing which he/she has to discontinue the course

 It implies that, any candidate not getting the eligibility for the

- 5th semester within 6 academic years or - 7th semester within 7 academic years

- from the date of first admission will not be able to complete the course and hencewill have to discontinue after 6th or 7th academic years, respectively as the case may be.

GRACING POLICY

 

GMR 01: Grace marks shall be awarded to a Subject / Paper / Practical / Head of passing to amaximum of 2% of University Examination marks if, after gracing the candidate gets minimumprescribed marks in the Theory / Practical and passes in the subject.

GMR 02: A candidate shall be eligible to a maximum of 5 grace marks, provided,

1. He/she has failed in only one subject (Pr/Th/Head of Passing) of the examination 2. Passes the whole examination by such gracing 3. Gets minimum prescribed marks in the paper/ practical and aggregate for passing by

such gracing

GMR 03: Grace Marks shall be awarded for declaration of classes also. For obtaining a higher class a candidate is eligible for getting a maximum of 5 grace marks,which will be added to the total aggregate marks of the candidate and will declare the candidateto have passed the examination in I Class or FWD

GMR 04: Grace marks awarded as per GMR 01 for passing a subject and GMR 02 for passingthe whole examination are shown only in the ledger and not in the statement of marks.However, the grace marks awarded for getting a higher class shall be indicated along with theaggregate total of the examination.

GMR 05:  A candidate is entitled for grace marks only under any one of the regulations either asper GMR01 or GMR 02 or GMR 03.

GMR 06:  A candidate is entitled for grace marks of 05 for the award of class of the degree.

 

Evaluation of Answer Scripts of PG Course

- All answer scripts of PG courses will be evaluated by two examiners - If the difference between First Evaluation and the Second Evaluation is more than 15,the third examiner shall evaluate the script. - The average of the marks of nearest two valuations shall be considered as themarks secured by the candidate. However, if one of the three marks falls exactlymidway between the other two , then the higher two marks shall be taken for averaging.

The same process of third evaluation will be carried out for scripts of undergraduate courses

Project work of MBA

OMB 7. Corporate Exposure and Learning (CEL) OMB 7.1 All the candidates shall undertake a CEL of ten weeks duration at the end of the 2nd

semester and before the commencement of the 3rd

  semester.  The CEL shall be organization specific OMB 7.2  The CEL report shall be submitted by the students as per the guidelines prescribedby the University from time to time. OMB 7.3 The CEL Guide shall carry out the internal assessment of the assignment for 50marks

OMB 7.4 A panel of Examiners consisting of an external and an internal examiner shall jointlyvalue the CEL report for 100 marks.  Out of 100 marks 50 marks for CEL report and 50 marksfor Viva-Voce examination.  This examination has to be conducted in batches of 5 students. OMB 7.5. A candidate shall secure a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate, in the internalassessment, evaluation of CEL report and viva-voce examination.  In the event of his failing tosecure the 50% marks he shall have to re-do the CEL

Class Declaration

- A candidate who passes all the subjects with 70% and above marks in aggregate in the

FIRST attempt shall be declared as First Class with Distinction. - A candidate who passes all the subjects with between 60% and 70% of aggregate inthe FIRST attempt shall be declared as First Class. - A candidate who passes all the subjects with less than 60% of aggregate marks in the FIRSTattempt shall be declared as Second Class.

Award of Degree Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology shall be awarded to the candidates who

have passed all the stipulated examination from 1st

to 8th

semesters.  However, declaration of the class of the degree shall be based on the performanceof the candidate from 5th

to 8th

semester examinations taken together.

Bachelor’s degree in Architecture shall be awarded to the candidates who have passed allthe stipulated examination from 1 st to 10th semesters. However, declaration of the class of the degree shall be based on the performance of thecandidate from 7 th

to 10th

semester examinations taken together.

Master’s Degree in Business Administration shall be awarded to the candidates who havepassed all the stipulated examination from 1 st to4 th

A candidate shall be eligible for a rank at the time of award of degree in each branch of Engineering / Technology, provided he/she has

1. Passed in all the subjects from I to VIII semester in FIRST attempt only. 2. For award of rank in branch of Engineering / Technology the cumulative aggregate marks secured by the candidate from V to VIII semester shall be considered. 3. Should not have repeated/rejected any of the lower semesters. 4. Should have completed the prescribed course of study within 4 academic years.

Ten ranks shall be awarded in Bachelor of Architecture.A candidate shall be eligible for a rank at the time of award of degree for the course of Bachelor of Architecture, provided he/she has:

1. Passed in all the subjects from I to X semester in FIRST attempt only. 2. For award of rank in branch of Engineering / Technology the cumulative aggregate marks secured by the candidate from VII to X semester shall be considered. 3. Should not have repeated/rejected any of the lower semesters. 4. Should have completed the prescribed course of study within 5 academic years

Three ranks shall be awarded in Post Graduate Degree in each branch of Engineering/Technology.

 

A candidate shall be eligible for a rank at the time of award of Post Graduate Degree in each branch of Engineering / Technology, provided he/she has:

1. Passed in all the subjects from I to IV semester in FIRST attempt only. 2. For award of rank in branch of Engineering / Technology the cumulative aggregate marks secured by the candidate from  I to IV semester shall be considered. 3. Should not have repeated/rejected any of the lower semesters. 4. Should have completed the prescribed course of study within 2 academic years

A candidate shall be eligible for a rank at the time of award of degree for the course of Master of Computsser Applications, provided he/she has:

1. Passed in all the subjects from I to VI semester in FIRST attempt only. 2. For award of rank in branch of Engineering / Technology the cumulative aggregate marks secured by the candidate from I to VI semester shall be considered. 3. Should not have repeated/rejected any of the lower semesters. 4. Should have completed the prescribed course of study within 3 academic years.

A candidate shall be eligible for a rank at the time of award of degree for the course of Master of Business Administration, provided he/she has:

1. Passed in all the subjects from I to IV semester in FIRST attempt only. 2. For award of rank in branch of Engineering / Technology the cumulative aggregate marks secured by the candidate from I to IV semester shall be considered. 3. Should not have repeated/rejected any of the lower semesters.

Correction in Marks Card

 

The Principals are requested to suitably notify the students to check the marks card forname correction, if any, in the First Semester level. Such requeststogether with a copy of the examination application form/s duly attested by yourself or whosoever authorized by you, along with a Demand Draft for Rs.200/- per marks card be forwarded to the office of the Registrar (Evaluation)for further processing. If marks cards are sent at a later stage for name correction, DD shallnecessarily be sent at a rate of Rs. 200/- per marks card.

Depending on the genuinity of the cases, the University reserves its rights to return the DemandDraft.

Issue of Duplicate Marks Card

There is provision of issue of duplicate marks cards in cases where the marks cards are lost ormutilated.

1. For applying for Duplicate Marks card, an affidavit on Rs.20 stamp paper givingdetails, such as, USN, Month & Year of passing, Course, Branch, college and how theoriginal marks cards were lost along with a fee of Rs.150/- plus Rs. 50/- per year thereafterpayable in the form of a DD drawn in favour of the Finance Officer, VTU Belgaum. 2. The candidate has to lodge a complaint to local police station of the area where it waslost and submit the original copy of acknowledgement of complaint along with the aboveaffidavit.

The candidates who are in need of the same shall forward their applications along with therelevant documents through the office of the Principal, to the office of the Registrar(Evaluation ).

GUIDELINES FOR THE PREPARATION OF B.E./B. Tech. PROJECT REPORTS

 

- Project reports should be typed neatly only on one side of the paper with 1.5 or doubleline spacing on a A4 size bond paper (210 x 297 mm). The margins should be: Left - 1.25",Right - 1", Top and Bottom - 0.75". - The total number of reports to be prepared are - One copy to the department - One copy to the concerned guide(s) - Two copies to the sponsoring agency - One copy to the candidate.

3. Before taking the final printout, the approval of the concerned guide(s) is mandatory andsuggested corrections, if any, must be incorporated. 4. For making copies dry tone Xerox is suggested. 5.Every copy of the report must contain

- Inner title page (White) - Outer title page with a plastic cover - Certificate in the format enclosed both from the college and the organization where theproject is carried out. - An abstract (synopsis) not exceeding 100 words, indicating salient features of the work.(NB: four copies of the abstract are to be submitted to the Department on the date ofsubmission separately)

- Chapters (to be numbered in Arabic) containing Introduction-, which usually specifiesthe scope of work and its importance and relation to previous work andthe present developments, Main body of the report divided appropriately into chapters, sections and subsections. - The chapters, sections and subsections may be numbered in the decimal form for e.g.Chapter 2, sections as 2.1, 2.2 etc., and subsections as 2.2.3, 2.5.1 etc. - The chapter must be left or right justified (font size 16).  Followed by the title ofchapter centered(font size 18), section/subsection numbers along with their headings must beleft justified with section number and its heading in font size16 and subsection and its heading in font size 14. The body or the text of the reportshould have font size 12. - The figures and tables must be numbered chapter wise for e.g.: Fig. 2.1 Block diagramof a serial binary adder, Table 3.1 Primitive flow table, etc. - The last chapter should contain the summary of the work carried, contributions if any,their utility along with the scope for further work.

Reference OR Bibliography: The references should be numbered serially in the order of theiroccurrence in the text and their numbers should be indicated within square brackets for e.g. [3]. The section on references should list them in serial order in the following format.

1. For textbooks - A.V. Oppenheim and R.W. Schafer, Digital Signal Processing,Englewood, N.J., Prentice Hall, 3 Edition, 1975. 2. For papers - Devid, Insulation design to combat pollution problem, Proc of IEEE, PAS,Vol 71, Aug 1981, pp 1901-1907.

- Only SI units are to be used in the report.  Important equations must be numbered indecimal form for e.g. -        V = IZ                                      ..........                  (3.2) - All equation numbers should be right justified. - The project report should be brief and include descriptions of work carried out by othersonly to the minimum extent necessary.  Verbatim reproduction of material availableelsewhere should be strictly avoided.  Where short excerpts from published work are desiredto be included, they should be within quotation marks appropriately referenced. - Proper attention is to be paid not only to the technical contents but also to theorganization of the report and clarity of the expression.  Due care should be taken to avoidspelling and typing errors.  The student should note that report-write-up forms the important component in the overall evaluation of the project - Hardware projects must include: the component layout, complete circuit with thecomponent list containing the name of the component, numbers used, etc. and the maincomponent data sheets as Appendix.  At the time of report submissions, the students musthand over a copy of these details to the project coordinator and see that they are entered in proper registers maintained in the department. - Software projects must include a virus free disc, containing the software developed bythem along with the read me file.  Read me file should contain the details of the variablesused, salient features of the software and procedure of using them: compiling procedure,details of the computer hardware/software requirements to run the same, etc.  If thedeveloped software uses any public domain software downloaded from some site, then theaddress of the site along with the module name etc. must be included on a separate sheet. It must be properly acknowledged in the acknowledgments. - Sponsored Projects must also satisfy the above requirements along with statement ofaccounts, bills for the same dully attested by the concerned guides to process further, Theymust also produce NOC from the concerned guide before taking the internal vivaexamination. - The reports submitted to the department/guide(s) must be hard bounded, with a plasticcovering. - Separator sheets, used if any, between chapters, should be of thin pape

- The project report should be brief and include descriptions of work carried out by othersonly to the minimum extent necessary.  Verbatim reproduction of material availableelsewhere should be strictly avoided.  Where short excerpts from published work are desiredto be included, they should be within quotation marks appropriately referenced. - Proper attention is to be paid not only to the technical contents but also to theorganization of the report and clarity of the expression.  Due care should be taken to avoidspelling and typing errors.  The student should note that report-write-up forms the important component in the overall evaluation of the project - Hardware projects must include: the component layout, complete circuit with thecomponent list containing the name of the component, numbers used, etc. and the maincomponent data sheets as Appendix.  At the time of report submissions, the students musthand over a copy of these details to the project coordinator and see that they are entered in proper registers maintained in the department. - Software projects must include a virus free disc, containing the software developed bythem along with the read me file.  Read me file should contain the details of the variablesused, salient features of the software and procedure of using them: compiling procedure,details of the computer hardware/software requirements to run the same, etc.  If thedeveloped software uses any public domain software downloaded from some site, then theaddress of the site along with the module name etc. must be included on a separate sheet. It must be properly acknowledged in the acknowledgments. - Sponsored Projects must also satisfy the above requirements along with statement ofaccounts, bills for the same dully attested by the concerned guides to process further, Theymust also produce NOC from the concerned guide before taking the internal vivaexamination. - The reports submitted to the department/guide(s) must be hard bounded, with a plasticcovering. - Separator sheets, used if any, between chapters, should be of thin paper

Guide/s & Panel of Examiners for III semester M.Tech. Dissertation

 

While proposing the panel of examiners, the following points shall be taken care.

• In case the candidate has carried out full or part of the work of dissertation outside    the institution, the name of the external guide should be mentioned compulsorily by    giving full details. • The internal guide may be from other department, if the dissertation work is inter-    disciplinary. • While proposing the external examiners, care should be taken to list the examiners who    are working in the same field. The examiner may be drawn from other departments in    case of work is of interdisciplinary type. • If the work is carried out in an industry, the list of proposed examiners should contain    at least one examiner from the industry and should be well experienced in the field. • The external examiner proposed should be at least of Assistant Professor or Selection    grade lecturer cadre preferably with Ph. D., if they are from educational institutions. • To the extent possible, do not suggest the same examiner for more than three dissertations.
