Appearing at the upcoming Virtual Reality Developers Conference (VRDC) ‒ November 2-3, San Francisco ‒ will be Tokyo-based eje Inc. (President: Chiaki Mishiro). A company established in 2004 by Chiaki Mishiro who has been involved with the 360° video content for more than two decades, eje specializes in all aspects of VR from content creation to distribution ‒ from planning to development, online to offline distribution, apps and solutions to portal management and event operations. In San Francisco the company will be showcasing Japan’ s first 360° video portal app, VR CRUISE, and exploring opportunities to distribute foreign and domestic VR content.

VR CRUISEVR CRUISE, created in December 2015 for online distribution for VR content, is a portal for curating breathtakingly high-definition 360° video and still images, providing the viewer with an unforgettable VR experience.　Currently, the VR CRUISE portal offers the largest selection of high-definition VR content, spanning a wide variety of genres ‒ including movies, music, stage, anime, news, sports, and documentaries ‒ for diverse audiences.

And because it’ s the first portal site of its kind in Japan, the selection of groundbreaking content is growing rapidly through active collaboration between eje and its many partners. 　From April 2016, VR CRUISE content has been offered as an offline service called VR THEATER, partnering with a major internet entertainment cafés chain (a.k.a. net cafés) throughout Japan. This service, currently numbering close to 150, is expected to expand to 500 by the end of the year by eje and its partners.

Japan’ s First Localization System One of the main goals of eje is to distribute foreign VR content in Japan, and Japanese VR content overseas, using VR CRUISE. This naturally requires reliable and efficient localization. Currently, almost all 360° video content is distributed without any localization. With VR CRUISE however, eje is leading the way in developing and verifying such localization. This VR CRUISE localization system will be demonstrated in San Francisco.

VR Theater SystemThe high-definition content of VR CRUISE can be experienced using the VR Theater System, which comprises several eje-developed devices, including the TELEPOD™ Ball Chair equipped with a VR4D system that provides an immersive VR experience thanks to AV-linked bodysonic vibration, and VideoLink which offers easy operation with a device combining the Gear VR and a tablet PC.

On March 12, 2016, an audience in Tokyo enjoyed a 360° performance of overseas artists* streamed live using the Gear VR. eje also offers the PadLink™ service and the VideoLink app that distributes 360° content to multiple devices simultaneously.
