Introduction Voxnet App

1 Welcome

The Voxnet App enables you to control your Revox Voxnet System through a mobile end device that has an Android operating system (referred to throughout this manual as device).

1.1 Installation

Download the Voxnet App onto your device from the Google Playstore.

1.2 Setting the language

The current version of the Voxnet system has German and English language support. Two settings have to be made to switch to another language: 1. A modification of the device

language setting. 2. A modification of the Voxnet Server

language setting. To modify the language, you have to log in as Admin and select the new language under Control Panel/ System/ Regional Options/ Language/ Display language.

Once you have set up the language on both sides, you first have to carry out a restart of the Voxnet system through the Info menu in the Voxnet Configurator with “Restart” Server and Music and then in a second step, restart the App on your device. Now the new language should be present in all areas of the App.

1.3 General

Log your device on to the network where the Voxnet Server is located. The Voxnet Server is recognised automatically by the App and the server contents are displayed. If there are several Voxnet Servers in one network, the contents of all servers are shown together in one operational level, so it is not necessary to switch between servers. After starting the App, you can operate the Voxnet system either by selecting the rooms or by selecting the users. The display is defined through the Voxnet Configurator*.

1.4 Copyright Voxnet

Voxnet is a registered trademark of Revox GmbH. * The Voxnet Configurator is browser-based configuration program used to manage the Voxnet system, i.e. the assignment of names and rights or the definition of the sound settings.

1.5 Changing user / room names

If you need to change the names of users or rooms, this can be done directly through the Voxnet App without having to use the Configurator. Tap on the corresponding entry for more than one second. A text line now opens where you can enter the new name.

1.6 Sorting the user / room list

The sort sequence of lists can be influenced through the App using a number index located in front of the actual name. If you want to use the sort function, you have to add a number with colon to all name fields. Rooms that are not numbered are displayed at the end of the list in the order of the identifier. The number index can either be added through the App or through the Configurator. Both options are then synchronised with each other. Syntax: [xx:Name]

Example: 02:Dining Room

These screenshots show the assignment of names including the indexing number, in the Configurator.

The alias that is defined in the Configurator is not affected by this name change.

1.7 Switching rooms on and off

Rooms can be switched on and off using the power button in the footer or the drawer menu to the side of the screen. The following coloured icons are used:

The room is switched off

The room is active but is being used by a user who is not the current App user.

The room is active and is being controlled by the current App user.

2 Basic menu

The Basic menu contains all the functions and settings that are needed for the everyday use of the App, e.g. the timer function or the bass/treble settings. Essential settings such as the selection of radio stations for Revox Radio on the other hand, are made in the Voxnet Configurator. 2.1 Open menu

Depending on which Android device you are using, this menu can either be found behind the classical Menu button or if this is not physically present, through the equivalent software button in the status bar. Tapping on this button either opens the pop-up menu to the right or at the lower edge of the display. This can vary according to the device and the Android operating version system.

The following options are available for selection: - Room Timer

- Sound Settings

- Group Volume

- Power off (clients)

- Setup (App display options)

- Quit Application

2.2 Room Timer

As well as the 4 central timers in the Voxnet Server that can be used for general, time-dependent events, each Voxnet 219 offers 4 individual alarm clocks that can only be configured through the Voxnet App and that do not appear in the Voxnet Configurator. The Voxnet Server’s timers are managed through the Configurator.

2.2.1 Calling the room timer

As each room / amplifier has its own 4 room timers, the first step is to call the room where the alarm clock is to be modified. To do this, swipe from the left-hand edge of the display towards the middle of the display. The menu that appears shows the user and room list if User and Rooms are activated for the view in the configuration. A brief tap on the room selects it. The alarm clock doesn’t have to be switched on for it to be selectable. Standby mode is enough.

After selecting the room, you open the alarm clock menu found in the Voxnet App pop-up menu.

When first called, all 4 room alarm clocks are deactivated. This is indicated by the OFF switch.

In this view, the previously selected room (Living Room) is shown with the corresponding action (Raum aus/ Room off).

2.2.2 Defining timer actions

Tapping on the Room / Action bar (yellow field), opens the available selection menu. As well as the MyMusic sources that are assigned to individual users, there are also two switch-off commands (Room off and System off) for the corresponding room or the complete system.

2.2.3 Setting time / weekday

The weekdays are defined by tapping on the letter fields M - S.

M Monday T Tuesday W Wednesday T Thursday

F Friday S Saturday S Sunday

The time is set using the two time wheels, one for hours and one for minutes. The Voxnet alarm clock works as a start time, i.e. the set time defines the starting timepoint of the selected action. Switch-off is then either done by the user or by using a second alarm clock setting. If for example, having been woken up by music at 06:30 the room should automatically be switched off at 08:00, a second alarm clock must be used for this purpose.

2.3 Sound Settings

The desired settings for treble and bass (± 12 dB) and balance can be made through the Sound settings. The volume is also shown in this menu.

Fig.: Sound menu

Fig.: Sound menu with volume rocker

Note Essential settings such as the DSP-supported frequency response optimisation for Revox speakers or the adjustment to their installation position are made in the Voxnet Configurator.

The Volume Rocker is activated in the Configurator (Advanced Mode) in the “External Volume Control” trigger menu.

2.4 Group Volume

If a user is active in several rooms the group volume can be synchronised for all rooms through the menu selection or through a longer press on the PlayView icon in the Revox App. Setting is done through a volume rocker with relative volume setting (up / down). The algorithm takes into account both the volume state of each individual room and the maximum value as defined in the Configurator.

The figure above shows the group volume control of the three rooms Dining Room, Kitchen and Living Room. Here, the rooms can be controlled individually through the three upper sliders as well as together through the lower blue volume rocker. In the case of the Kitchen, the “External Volume Control” trigger also happens to be active and therefore is shows a Volume Rocker.

2.5 Power Off

This button offers various power-off scenarios.

• Power off current room Only the currently selected room is switched off. All other active rooms assigned to this user remain switched on.

• Power off all rooms of current user All rooms assigned to the user who is currently controlling this room will also be switched off.

• Power off whole system All rooms in the Voxnet system will be switched off irrespective of which user is currently using them.

3 Selecting music and sources

The Voxnet App enables access to the various sources from the Voxnet Server and to the individual Voxnet 219 amplifiers.

Voxnet Server Sources / My Music:

• Music Server1 • Revox Radio² • Airable1 • Favorite²

Voxnet 219 Amplifier Sources With I/O module (1.563.108.00)

• Analoge input • Coaxial input • Optical input

The corresponding sources are displayed, depending on whether you are logged in as a user or whether a specific room (Voxnet 219) is selected.

The Rights management function in the Configurator and the corresponding licence, which define which user can use which sources/services in which room, also have an effect on the options that are displayed.

1 An additional licence per user is required 2 Included in the basic licence for all users

3.1 Music Server*

Through the selection criteria Artists, Albums, Genres, Composers, Latest track and Folders, the Music Server gives access to all music files that are stored in the Voxnet Server on the Synology NAS or any other path within the network.

The basic selection takes you to the Cover view. Here, by tapping on the info bar, the complete album can be played or by tapping on the cover, an overview of all the available albums can be displayed. If the album doesn’t have any cover art, a default icon of a CD with a musical note is shown instead.

An Options menu appears if you tap and hold the cover display:

Browse

The album is shown with a listing of its tracks. Play

The album starts to play from track 1. Play next The track that is currently playing is played to the end and then the selected album starts to play from track 1. Add to queue

The queue is a list containing selected tracks. This is only a temporary collection of tracks and doesn’t represent a long-term playlist or a list of favourite tracks. The queue can be viewed in the playlist view and tracks can be selected from it.

Note Tracks or albums from the Music Server cannot be added to the favorites. * Chargeable licence service

Updating the music library If you have retrospectively added further albums or tracks to one of the storage locations, you should carry out an update of the music library either through the Restart Music option in the Music Server Configurator or by tapping and holding one of the 6 selection fields (Artists, Albums, Genres, Composers, Latest track and Folders) in the Voxnet App.

This guarantees that all tracks appear for selection.

3.2 Revox Radio

The radio stations that were stored in the Configurator with a fixed URL (Internet path) can be played with the Revox Radio. The order of the stations is also defined in the Configurator. Revox Radio is of interest for radio stations that need to be available quickly for playing on a frequent basis or for stations that are not available through the Airable Internet radio service. These for example, can be small, local radio stations.

In the same way as with the Music Server, selection is made by tapping on the Radio station cover.

Add to favorites If you want to add one of the Revox Radio stations to your favorites, first select it. The Play arrow is shown in white. The “Add to favorites” dialog appears by tapping and holding on the cover. Tapping on the dialog field adds the current station to the favorites.

The overview in the corresponding path is also shown here with the radio station covers. The selection is made by tapping on the individual station.

Adding to favorites If you want to add one of the stations to your favorites, first select it. The Play arrow is shown in white. The “Add to favorites” dialog appears by tapping and holding on the cover. Tapping on the dialog field adds the current station to the Favorites.

3.4 Favorites

The Favorites folder contains all the radio stations that have been added through Revox Radio or through Internet radio. The order that the stations are shown in is defined in the first instance, by the chronological order in which they were added. Subsequently however, you can defined the sequence yourself and create your own structure. Tap and hold on the station you want to move for longer than one second. A dialog appears with three options:

• Move left/ right • Move to the beginning/ end • Remove from favorites

Select an option and continue in the same way until you have created the sequence you want.

3.5 Showing the Play view

In addition to the Playlist, details about the current station and/or the track can be shown through the Mini Cover (bottom right).

There is also a Navigation bar in addition to the track listing, with Track ± and Play/ Pause.

3.6 Local sources

Each Voxnet 219 offers its own sources in addition to the music sources from the Voxnet Server. The choice of sources available is dependent on the modules that are installed in the Voxnet 219. In the example shown here, one I/O module has been installed with the three sources Analog, Coaxial and Optical. The selection is made by tapping on the input icon. The currently selected source is then shown with the white Play arrow. You can redefine both the icon and the labelling in the Configurator.
