At the Annual Membership Meeting on November, 15, 2016 we shared some facts and figures regarding the financial state of the Club. We had projected the Club would have a positive cash flow for 2016 of $21,929. I am pleased to report that, due to strong sales and Club usage in December, we more than doubled that number! As we dive head first into 2017, we are excited about the potential for growth and long term success of the Club. The first challenge we will face in 2017 is the decline in membership at Crown Colony. The total number of members at the end of 2015 was 537. By the end of 2016 the number of members in all categories had fallen to 502. This represents a 7% reduction in membership. 51% of our members
are age 61 and over. 33% of our members are age 40 to 60. A mere 16% of Club members are under age 40. On the surface, these statistics would seem to be discouraging. They are not, however, unusual in the private club industry nationwide. Our active Membership Committee will continue to work with Veronica Luce to come up with new and innovative programs to attract new members to Crown. The best ambassadors for our Club are our current members. If each existing member would encourage just one acquaintance, business associate or extended family member to join the Club in 2017 we would be able to continue to improve our facilities and amenities. Please consider making this commitment a priority this year. Contact Veronica about discounts and specials that we will be offering. It was noted at the Annual Meeting that tournaments and outside play (in the form of our popular “Stay & Play” packages) accounted for $188,660 in revenue in 2016. This represents a significant portion of our total revenue for the year and is a very important part of our success. We would not have been profitable without this outside revenue in 2016! We have
added several golf tournaments to the schedule for 2017 and are anticipating an even larger return! The piece of the puzzle that is missing is that we need more of our members to bring guests to play at Crown. While an incremental portion of food and beverage revenue helps to support the Club, guest fees have a larger impact on profitability as green fees and cart fees go directly to the bottom line. Invite that prospective member out for a round of golf on a course that continues to be one of the most highly rated in the state. “Thank you” to everyone who responded to the recent survey. We are still combing through the comments and suggestions and appreciate you taking the time to express your opinions and give us feedback regarding the services we are proud to provide. As we head into 2017 we believe we are on the right track and we appreciate your continued support. Famous humorist Will Rogers was quoted as saying, “Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there!” We will not “just sit there”! Everything we do in 2017 will be focused on improving the total Club experience. We hope that you will come along for the ride!See you at the Club!

2017 Tournament schedule and current events: The new 2017 Tournament schedule can be picked up in the pro shop. There are other ways to stay up on all that is golf; you will always be able to read the leisure every month for events, you can read my weekly email and there will always be postings around the club of upcoming events. Get Golf Ready Program: The most important programs are the ones we are continuing to promote to get people you may know involved in playing golf. This is our Get Golf Ready Program. This is a five lesson program for just $99. In five lessons we get students on the golf course enjoying this great game that we all love. You may have a group of people at your job around which we could build a weekly program This not only gets them playing golf but creates unity in your workforce. As you will read below we can go the whole year around.
Great Swing Training News: Starting now I have a net in the old racquet ball area. This will allow us thru winter to be able to run several programs to help make you a better golfer next spring. First, with Trackman we can work on the short game and full swings distances and direction to make sure you are consistently hitting your targets. In doing this we can make your dispersion patterns tighter. Second, if you are all about increasing your swing speed we have the Super Speed training system that will help you do this. Third, if you just want to make sure your swing is getting better, with the video system we have you can be on your way to having better mechanics. Fourth, as you may have read we now are doing TPI training that will help get your body physically ready for a great swing. If you would like to begin working on making you better for the spring just email me at [email protected]. Make this next year your best golf year!

2017 Crown Colony Collegiate Open
If you missed this year’s Collegiate it was a great tournament with probably the best weather I have seen for this event. Texas A&M’s Brandon Smith fired a 68 on Tuesday to win the 2017 Crown Colony Collegiate Open at Crown Colony Country Club. Smith, who shot a 73 on Monday, finished with a two-round total of 141. Oklahoma’s Blaine Hale had the best score on Tuesday with a 67, and he finished with a total of 143 to place
second. Houston’s Matthew Dunn (72-72) and Memphis’ JC Campbell (71-73) tied for third with a total of 144. Campbell recorded a hole-in-one on the 12th hole. Other finishers in the top 10 were Jacob Veerman, Houston (77-68 — 145); Garett Reband, Oklahoma (71-75 — 146); Brady Price, Louisiana-Monroe (71-78 — 149) 1 Brandon Smith, Texas A&M 73-68--1412 Blaine Hale, Oklahoma 76-67--143T3 Matthew Dunn, Houston 72-72--144 JC Campbell, Memphis 71-73--1445 Jacob Veerman, Houston 77-68--1456 Garett Reband, Oklahoma 71-75--1467 Brady Price, Louisiana Monroe 71-78--149 Thanks for your support,Ben BurnsPGA Head Golf Professional Crown Colony Country Club936-637-8800

lGa newsby Susan laws
attention LGa Members:We are now taking orders for the new LGA mandatory play day uniforms (pictured above.) The skirts are available in a subdued light grey or a more sinister dark grey while the mutton-sleeved shirts feature white muslin. When ordering, please state the size of your bustle. So, for better or worse, I will be assuming the job of Leisure “correspondent” for the LGA. In taking over this job from the incomparable Mickey Benton, I will have some mighty big shoes to fill. Thanks Mickey, for all you have contributed to these pages and for all you continue to do for our organization. As you know, our new officers were elected by acclamation at the Christmas luncheon. Pres: Mary Virginia Casper, 1st VP: Melisa Abeldt, 2nd VP: Gayle Brent, Sec: Mickey Benton, Treas: Julie Zeagler. We look forward to a wonderful year with this group at the helm. Please lend them your support whenever possible, including participation in our general meetings.
Our next GENERAL MEETING will be held on Thursday, March 2nd, in conjunction with the “First Tee Frolic.” I urge you to be there to express your opinions and to support the association. Complimentary breakfast and brief meeting at 9:00am. Tee off to follow. Don’t forget “Red Hot Mamas” (Feb 9th) is just around the corner. Grab your red attire and come out for this fun time. Play is Low Gross & Low Net. Also, mark your calendar for the Memorial Net, April 18th through 20th. More to follow on that great event. The next Babe of Babes qualifier will be Thursday, February 23rd. I’d also like to mention that we collected $290 last year with Babe of Babes money. We were proud to donate it to The American Cancer Society. In addition to our regular play days and LGA tournaments, let me encourage you to take advantage of some upcoming tournaments Ben has scheduled. MGA/LGA Super Bowl Tournament is Feb 4th and the Couples Valentine Scramble is Feb 11th. Check with the pro shop for more details. These should be a lot of fun! Want to mention our February birthday girls, Gayle Brent (2nd) & Debbie Alexander (7th). If I have forgotten anyone, let me know and I’ll bake you a cake! Get-well wishes and prayers still going out to dear Dorothy McCoy from all of us. Finally, as the weather warms, we can look forward to some quality fellowship and maybe even some quality golf shots as well. Come on out and enjoy this extraordinary game. As Humorist P.J. O’Rourke so eloquently described it, “Golf combines two favorite American pastimes: taking long walks and hitting things with a stick!” Bring your sticks and join us.

RETIREMENT COMMUNITY LIVING
Our friends thought we’d lose our independence at PineCrest.
At PineCrest, you’ll find a maintenance-free lifestyle, complete with services and amenities that allow you
to pursue the things you want to do, not the things you have to do. Plus, there’s plenty of entertaining and
socializing opportunities to spice up your life. Coming and going is as easy as it is from your home —
in fact, it’s usually easier. So when we say we offer “independent living,” we truly mean it.
Whether it’s volunteering in the community, taking trips, or having our family visit us, we’ve never felt so carefree.
If that’s losing your independence, we’ll take it.
