Volume II, Issue 17 HAPPY NEW YEAR January 6, 2016
Community Dear Assumption Families,Happy New Year! We hope that you and your homes were blessed with health, warmth, and cheer during the Christmas break. Thank you for all the thoughtful and generous gifts that you presented to all of us. We are tremendously grateful to work in a community that is giving, affirming, and loving.
Blessings,The Staff and Faculty
New Year TraditionYesterday I entered all classrooms for our annual New Year prayer and Epiphany door blessing. You may see the “20+C+M+B+16 over the doorways in our school. The letters C M B stand for Christus Mansionem Benedicat, Latin for “May Christ bless this house.” The letters also point to the names that tradition has assigned to the mysterious Magi, Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar —although scripture tells us nothing of their number, their country, or their names. The blessing speaks of journeys ended and journeys begun at the doorway, and prays that all journeys be as satisfying as was the Magi’s. It prays that the house beyond the door have the quality of love and peace that the Magi marveled at when they at last arrived in Bethlehem.

Prayer
Peace be to this house and: to all who dwell here,in the name of the Lord.
In the beginning was the Wordand the Word was with God,and the Word was God.He was in the beginning with God.All things came to be through him,and without him nothing came to be….and the Word became flesh and dwelt among usand we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth.
John 1:1-3.14
Lord God of heaven and Earth, you revealed your only begotten Sonto every nation by the guidance of a star.Bless this house and all who inhabit it.
May we be blessed with health, goodness of heart, gentleness and keeping or your law.
Fill us with the light of Christ, that our love for each othermay go out to all.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen

Plant MaintenanceOur main building roof which runs from the office down to the gym was replaced over Christmas break. Thank you to Mr. Clement who remained on campus to oversee the work and completion of this job. This was a necessary fix as we prepare for the El Niño.

Boy O’ Boyd’s
Prior to our Christmas break I was in the 3rd grade leading a lesson, as a group we began to talk about college. Students asked, “Mr. Petersen, what is college like?” I shared aspects of college learning and a student responded with awe and surprise, “Oh, is there such a place?”

EXTENDED CARE We are starting off the New Year at Extended by getting ready for our upcoming Talent Show! Bring your CD’s or burn a new one and practice in the Small Hall. We continue to count our blessings with the continued support of Mrs. Muller, our credentialed teacher, in the Homework Room! We are very appreciative of time and care she gives to our students! Special thank you’s to OLIVIA WALKER for donating some of her outgrown toys. The horses created quite a stir, and were an instant hit. Speaking of horses, a special thank you to BRODY QUIROZ, Mollie’s horse, who donated alfalfa for our reindeer snacks! And MACKENZIE CIN sent over art supplies that we used instantly! Just a reminder that coupons are no longer sold in the front office. You may purchase coupons directly from Extended Care now. January 15th is National Hat Day and of course we will be having a Hat Contest that day! Start planning! Many blessings in the new year to all !
