Whooo!!! What a month it has been!!! Congratulations Yuma Lodge 476!!! We broke the $20,000 dollar mark on this year’s Clair Culver event. What a night it was for us and the State’s Major Project. I was so looking forward to strutting late into the DD clinic, bragging about our Lodge, and paying a fine. All of that happened except the latter. Apparently news of our event beat us to Sun City and our tardiness was overlooked. Ha! Thank you Joe Inman for spear heading such a successful event. There are WAY too many others to thank personally as I know I will forget someone, so trust me when I say, THANK YOU ALL!!! The Chicken Shack was yet another big hit out at the fair! Many people volunteered many hours throughout the week. It was a great time and already looking forward to next year. The charity pot Thanks you, as do I! We had our first NASCAR potluck at the Lodge April 19th. Baked beans, soup, meatballs, and other foods were brought. Unfortunately, the weather in Bristol did not cooperate with our schedule. The race was postponed until approximately 4p.m. wst and resumed under the lights on the East Coast. The biggest change we have in May is there will be NO MORE buffets on Tuesday and Friday nights. Food will still be served at the Lodge. Please call our Manager Brandon Reynolds for any other questions or inquires you might have. Having mentioned our Manager, don’t forget about our beautiful Lodge this Summer. If you need a place for a Birth Day party, a reunion, or have family and friends who are looking for the same, be a sponsoring Elk and hold the event at the Lodge. Please Wish our Ritual Team Luck, as we will be heading to State Competition May 14-16. We have been practicing many hours and have put in a lot of hard work. Thank you coaches for your time and patience. Also, that same weekend, our own Jack Lawrence will become AEA AZ State President. If you are looking for a day get away, come up to the Double Tree in Tempe, AZ and celebrate with us all. Here is to May and most importantly:HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY and have a safe Memorial weekend!!!

Sincerely,Chad Jones Exalted Ruler

ELK OF THE YEAR

LEADING KNIGHT On March 21st we held our annual Elk of the Year and Officer of the Year dinner and I want to congratulate Raleigh Mcilvenna our Elk of the Year and Gary Gist our Officer of the Year. You both are very deserving of these honors. On March 28th the new lodge officer’s for 2015-16 were installed and I’d like to personally thank Past Exalted Ruler Fred Dammeyer for being my installing officer. Also I welcome our 1st time officer’s and look forward to working with each of you and being part of another winning ritual team. I’d like to remind everyone that our State convention goes from May 14th-16th where last year’s ritual team will be competing to represent our lodge and Arizona at the National Convention in Indianapolis. You are all welcome to come out on the morning of the 16th and be present when our own Jack Lawrence is installed as President of the Arizona Elks Association, I want to wish him and his lovely lady Marianne on an exciting year ahead. Thank you, to all that helped at the Chicken Shack at the fair. We all had a fun time along with working hard. It was another very good year. On April 5th Easter Sunday Melvin Tynan Lecturing Knight, Lonny Cline Loyal Knight and myself went and visited a few convalescent homes and passed out carnations. You can see some picture on facebook and in this Dust. I would also like to thank everyone that helped and attended the Easter Party at the lodge. I have been told by many of the attendees it was a lot of fun and the children all went home with prizes. April 7, 2011 I attended my first Auxiliary meeting and was also initiated in. Thank you to Sheri Merrill and Anne-Heather Welch for their parts in the initiation. On April 11, 2015 we had our annual Clare Culver dinner and auction, and as in the past was a very successful fundraiser. Cudo’s to Joe Inman and his committee for their hard work. Hope to see you all at the lodge.

YUMA’S ELKSSPECIAL OLYMPICS

For people with intellectual disabilities, Special Olympics often is the only place where they have an opportunity to participate in their communities and develop belief in themselves. For athletes, Special Olympics sports provide a gateway to empowerment, competence, acceptance and joy. Athletes ranged in ages 7-55 years of age. Eleven Yuma Elk members volunteered during the Tennis and Track and Field Special Olympics on March 21st. Over 100 family and friends gathered to watch this exciting event. Thank you to everyone that helped during this great event.

CHICKEN SHACK

CLAIR CULVER 2015

It’s been a long and tiring week, but everyone loves what they do!!!

See ya next year at the Shack!!!

Explorers helped serve food, clean dishes and trash off tables, helped guard silent auction prizes. They were a real treat to have at the Lodge. Thank you.

ELKS CARE - ELKS SHARE ELKS DUST - 9

NEWS FROMTHE AUXILIARYHi Everyone, We were honored to have our newly installed Exalted Ruler, Chad Jones, attend our April 7 general meeting. He expressed his enthusiasm at being the new ER and looks forward to a great year working with our organization. He encouraged our attendance at the Installation of Jack Lawrence as State President on May 16 in Tempe. Details regarding reservations and exact times are available at the Lodge. Karen Goudy was officially installed as Auxiliary Treasurer by Anne-Heather Welch, and we were delighted to initiate Leading Knight, Joan Benno, into the Auxiliary. Nel Kuban has again volunteered to Chair the Fathers’ Day Committee, and requested assistance from the members. Our celebration will be held Sunday, June 21. A schedule of proposed activities was distributed to members in attendance, and was approved by unanimous vote. We will keep you informed as the events draw near. Geri Gorsegner requested that she be relieved of her position as Social Director, and I “volunteered” Rochelle Thompson to take her place, which she graciously agreed to do. Thank you, Rochelle! Anne-Heather reported that applications for scholarships have been received, and at this point two deserving young men are being considered. I will have the final determination by the next Elks Dust publication. The Lunch Bunch met on April 14, and we had a great time. Geri Gorsegner and Darlene Freeman were the only Birthday Girls in attendance. The May birthday celebrants are: Jenn Lawrence (5/6), Glynda McConaughey (5/7), Tina Smith (5/13), Nancy Thompson (5/14), Helen Humbach (5/15), Diana Whitney (5/17), Sharon Gale (5/23), Nel Kuban (5/24), and Jo Beth Sharpensteen (5/24). Lunch Bunch will meet on May 12 at 12:30 at the Lodge. Hope to see you there.

Best regards, Jo Beth Sharpensteen, President, Elks Auxiliary 476

CACTUS CAMPERS NEWS The Cactus Camper April campout was on the 17, 18th and 19th at Tier Drop RV Resort in Wellton. They have always been kind to us and allow us to use the clubhouse for our gatherings, meals and meeting. It is too hot this time of year to plan one out in the desert. We of course eat to much, play games, relax and swim in the pool. A group of seven rigs represented the Yuma Elks at the Tri State campout at the Voyager RV Resort in Tucson the 22nd through the 26th. Had a great time, and the weather is a little cooler over there. We had a caravan to the new Gila Bend lodge, where they served us a great spaghetti dinner and continued to Tucson the next morning. Our May campout will be the 15th, 16th and 17th again at Tier Drop in Wellton. Then we will be on hold for the summer months until September. We do get together once a month for breakfast the 3rd Saturday at the Mad Greek in old town. Come out if you can and see the fun we have even when we are not camping. The Cactus Camper Quilters have been making charity quilts for the Safehouse in Yuma. We meet every other week, and then a few of us go to the meeting at the Foothills Library where the group puts quilts together for Safehouse. We donate all the ones we make to that group.

Respectfully submitted,Kathy Sprouse, Secretary Chuck Donaker, Wagonmaster928-210-6327 928-503-2703
