BPSD volunteer opportunities availableHave you been searching for a way to help out Bartlesville youth? The Bartlesville Public School Dis-

trict has volunteer opportunities available throughout the district.Currently, volunteers are needed to serve as tutors, mentors, lunch buddies, classroom helpers, ele-

mentary school crossing guards and state test proctors. If you are not interested in any of the above volun-teer opportunities, the BPSD will still gladly take volunteers and find tasks that fit your interests.

BPSD bus route 4 combined with exisiting routes

Beginning January 23, the Bartlesville Public School District transportation department combined bus route 4 with existing routes, and current route 4 riders will be switched to alternate busing routes. The change is taking place to increase operating ef-ficiency as route 4 currently has a very low number of riders.

Previously, route 4 served the Harned Drive area south of Nowata road for Bartlesville Mid-High School and Madison Middle School; Kennelworth and Colonial Estates for the Bartlesville High School and Central Middle School; and Colonial Estates for

Wayside Elementary School. The Harned Drive area students were placed on route 9 in both morning and afternoon. The Kennelworth area and a portion of the Colonial students for BHS and Central were placed on route 1. The other portion of the Colonial students moved to route 13. The Colonial Wayside students were placed on route 22.

Should you have any questions regarding the route changes, please contact the transportation de-partment at 918-336-1733.

The BPSD would like to thank parents for help-ing the transition occur smoothly.

ment over time and have an overall state testing student participation of at least 95%.

Wayside, Central, BMHS and BHS were recognized as High Performance Reward Schools. The crite-ria to qualify as a High Performance Reward School is the awarded school must receive an A or A+ on the A-F Report Card or the school’s ranking must be at or above the 90th percentile in state testing for three consecutive years.

BPSD Superintendent Dr. Gary W. Quinn said, “We are extremely proud of the academic success at all schools throughout our district. To have five schools, half of our district’s school sites, recognized as Reward Schools by the Oklahoma State Department of Education is a great accomplishment. It is para-mount that we continue to build on academic successes around the district and continue our tradition of excellence by providing Bartlesville students the best education possible.”

BMHS Principal Jason Langham and BPSD Superintendent Dr. Gary W. Quinn were then greeted by State Superintendent Dr. Janet Barresi on stage and congratulated for the stellar National Blue Ribbon School accomplishment.

Following activities to honor BMHS, Barresi took the stage. Barresi discussed the Oklahoma Academic Standards and the changes in public education in the state Oklahoma. Barresi also discussed her belief that every Oklahoma student must receive a well-rounded education which will allow them to be college and career ready.

Dr. Angela Walker, representing the Oklahoma State Department of Education, then brought three BMHS stu-

dents, Brent Cunningham, Claire Sauer and Lucia Montiel, to participate in a game called “Bag Claim.” The purpose of the game was not only to bring excitement to the crowd, but to symbolize the various ways students can be success-ful.

The event concluded as those in attendance had the opportunity to speak with Oklahoma State Department of Education representatives including the State Superinten-dent.

The Oklahoma Academic Standards Road Rally was organized by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Similar events have taken place throughout the state over the past several months.
