The students were accompanied by our Faculty Members, Ms. Shiny C. M. and Mr. Gopesh C. R. The five Industries covered in Mysore and Coorg were Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Ltd., Karnataka Soaps & Detergents Ltd., Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF - Nandini), Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology, and YES Coffee Associates. Students were briefed about the basic processes involved in the production and other operations by the respective Company personnel. Faculty members also assisted the INDUSTRIAL TOUR @ AIM student group to relate various theoretical concepts that were taught in the classrooms. The Mysore Sandalwood Oil factory was established by the Maharaja of Mysore His Highness Nalwadi Krishna Raja Wodeyar and Diwan Sir, M. Visvesvaraya, during the year 1916 at Mysore, to extract Sandalwood Oil from Sandalwood. The first experiment for extraction of Sandalwood oil from Sandalwood was successfully conducted in Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, under the leadership of Prof. Suddourough and Prof. Watson. The high quality Sandalwood oil with British Pharmacopeia was introduced to the world by the Government Soap Factory, Mysore. Dr. Rajagopala Nair, Director, AIM, participated in a Faculty Development Programme organized by the Financial Training Institute at Bengaluru on 9 th July 2016. Hrishikesh, Nikhila Rajan, Susmitha and Mohammed Sakki, the First Semester MBA students of AIM have participated in a workshop on 'Art and Culture as a tool for Entrepreneurial Development', organized by TiE on 14 th July 2016. Ms. Tanya Abraham, writer, Arts Administrator and Art curator was the resource person for the workshop. The officials explained themarketing strategies applied by their marketing Dept. aswell the channels of distribution.

Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers’ FederationLimited (KMF) is the Apex Body for the dairy co-operativemovement in Karnataka. It is the second largest dairy co-operative amongst the dairy cooperatives in the country.In South India it stands first in terms of procurement aswell as sales. One of the core functions of the Federationis marketing of Milk and Milk Products. The Brand“Nandini” is the household name for Pure and Fresh milkand milk products. KMF has 14 Milk Unions covering allthe districts of the State which procure milk from PrimaryDairy Cooperative Societies(DCS) and distribute milk to theconsumers in various Towns/Cities/Rural markets inKarnataka.

Coordination of activities among the Unions anddeveloping market for Milk and Milk products is theresponsibility of KMF. Marketing Milk in the respectivejurisdiction is organized by the respective Milk Unions.Surplus/deficit of liquid milk among the member MilkUnions is monitored by the Federation. While the

This has sparked the idea of utilizing theavailable natural Sandalwood oil for making soap inthe home State of Mysore. Sri. S. G. Shastry, who wasa qualified Industrial Chemist, was sent to London foran advanced training on Soap & Perfumery technology.With the return of S. G. Shastry from London, the eraof MYSORE SANDAL SOAP began. Sri S.G. Shastry hasdeveloped Sandal perfume, which was considered asa land mark in the field of soap perfuming in thosedays. etc. was produced and introduced in the marketunder the brand name of MYSORE SANDALSOAP during the year 1918. The students experiencedthe production process with all its fragrance andclearly understood the various aspects of thefunctional areas of management.

Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Ltd ( KSIC ) hastwo modern factories engaged in manufacturing silk goodsright from raw silk yarn to silk fabrics. The factories arelocated in T. Narasipura and Mysore. The raw silk yarnfilatures obtained form T. Narasipura factory are putthrough various process and quality silk products areproduced at Mysore factory for end user consumption. The

marketing of all the Milk Products is organized by KMF,both within and outside the State, all the Milk and Milkproducts are sold under a common brand name NANDINI.The students of AIM learned the practical managementand the strategies to be applied to become a successfulmanager.

Our students visited the Central Institute of PlasticsEngineering & Technology (CIPET) which was establishedin 1968. CIPET stands tall not only as a premier institute inthe country but also emerged as a global institutionrenowned for its research & development in the niche areasof Polymer Science & Technology and high qualityEducation & Skill development in the field of plastics. CIPETrenders Technology Support Service in the areas of design,tooling, plastics processing and testing and qualityassurance in India and abroad. CIPET has been in theforefront of strengthening the technological capabilities

and has been constantly building capacities and leveragingits expertise, caliber and skill sets to meet the emergingand evolving needs of the industries. CIPET works in closeliaison with industries to implement its initiatives in theareas of Polymer and allied industries in accordance withthe environmental policies of the country. CIPET’s sustainedefforts in creating awareness on environmental issuestowards plastics and plastics waste management has beenvery well received by the industry. The officials of CIPETaddressed our students to give an insight into theorganization and all its functional areas. At Coorg, ourstudents visited YES Coffee Associates to experience thecoffee manufacturing process.

The group was taken to certain popular attractions ofMysore and Coorg, as well. Students were also providedopportunities for shopping and enjoying a campfire-music.Overall, we believe that the industrial tour was an excitingand informative experience for the students.

Rotaract Club of Albertian Institute of Management

The Rotary Club of Cochin Uptown has adopted K.M.Govt. Upper Primary School, Eroor, Ernakulam, as part

of their noble venture 'PARIVARTAN'. It is a project of RotaryDistrict 3201. The Rotaract Club of Albertian Institute ofManagement is also joining hands with this programme.The programme is inaugurated by Dr.Prakash Chandran,Governor, Rotary District 3201, and he explained the aimsand objectives of this programme. 'Parivartan', as the nameitself indicates , is an initiative to transform the studentcommunity right from their young ages. Supporting the

school to develop infrastructure, strengthening theknowledge base of both students and teachers, inspiringthem to think, teaching soft skills and life skills andpreparing the students to face competitive world are someof the important objectives of Parivartan. The students ofAlbertian Institute of Management are rendering theirservices as Soft Skill Trainers. During the inauguralceremony, the Rotary Club has donated 50 chairs to theschool and Albertian Institute of Management has donateda Water Purifier to the Staff of the school.

Kerala Budget 2016-17 - Panel Discussion @ AIM

Albertian Institute of Management has organized a PanelDiscussion on 'Kerala Budget 2016-17' on 12th July 2016,

in association with the New Age Daily. The panelists were- Sri. Babu Abraham Kallivayalil, Chairman, Board of Studies,ICAI, New Delhi; Dr. P. A. Mathew, Chairman, GraceInternational Academy, Sri. Ram Manohar Nair, CEO,Edyounet Teleclass room Ltd.; Sri. K. K. Krishna Kumar,Fellow, Centre for Socio-Economic and EnvironmentalStudies; Dr. V. K. Prasad, Faculty member, EMS Study andResearch Centre. Dr. Rajagopala Nair, Director, AIM was themoderator. Mr. Krishnakumar explained the methods tobe adopted by the Finance Minister to raise resources and

to fill deficit. All panel members are a of the opinion that ita dream budget, but how far the Govt. will succeed inexecuting the same is yet to be proved. The welfaremeasures are appreciable at the same time the Tax reformsare to be retuned. Mr.Ram Manohar expressed hisapprehensions by stating that there are only around 3 lakhtax payers in Kerala, that is about 1% of the total populationof Kerala. These 1% tax payers are contributing to thewelfare of the remaining 99% people. This is anunacceptable paradox of the State. The B.Com, BBA andM.Com students of St.Albert's College along with Mrs.Rosalind Gonzaga participated in the discussions.
