General Meeting - Wednesday, February 4th 2009

“IS THE RECYCLING MODEL BROKEN?”Presented by

GARY SPALTER — GS Polymersat

WILLY PARKERS71 Hillside Avenue, Williston Park, NY 11591

516-750-8125

The global credit crisis and other factors such as prime resin prices falling and the overall slowdown in the economyhave combined to undermine the whole recycling model. The Chinese plastics industry is almost at a standstill withmany smaller toy manufactures going out in the last month .The scrap market is tanking. They are not accepting anynew material and slashing agreed upon prices for loads on the water. Some are refusing to pay at all. This includes notonly plastics but paper and metal as well. As of today there is no market for scrap steel. .Locally cardboard recyclersare charging for removal.

Our domestic market for these materials are not able to absorb the difference creating an imbalance in supply anddemand .These condition are putting a strain on the recycling infrastructure as a whole that may not be sustainable. This is where we are as of December. What will the New Year bring with a new Administration in Washington?

Join us at our February General Meeting on Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 where we will hear Gary Spalter ofGS Polymers give us an update on the recycling situation in our area and globally. .

We will be changing our location for the upcoming year and hope that it will stir things up a bit and give everyone anincentive to start attending meetings again. We will be holding our February meeting at Willy Parkers, 71 HillsideAvenue, Williston Park, NY 11590.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKERGary has been in the Plastic Industry for over thirty five years. He began his career in 1972 at Progressive Plastics,
