There are lots of Elves that help Santa Claus. They are like a big family, all looking out for each other at the First National Bank of Waterloo. Santa's Elves live in the North Pole and don't travel out into the rest of the world very often, however they came to work in Millstadt this year. Santa’s Elves Working At First National Bank of Waterloo During Holidays in Millstadt

Greetings To All…… Time has a way of slipping by. It seemed only a few months ago we were ringing in 2015 and now 2016 is on our doorstep. I feel that 2015 was a very challenging, but hopefully the State of Illinois will come through with a budget by at least March

and begin sending checks by June of 2016. The Village and Township of Millstadt along with our Senior Board’s support continue to provide a brighter, more positive and productive place for our seniors to enjoy. Please stop by the Center and introduce yourself if you haven’t ever been here. Thank you for your financial support. Please feel free to stop in. My door is always open for positive conversation. And think about getting more involved, join a group or perhaps help make suggestions for new programs.

Free Chili Supper January 12, 2016 is the date for Mayor Mike Todd’s fourth annual Chili Supper. Mike will serve his famous chili from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Community Center. Bring a neighbor or meet some new neighbors at the Community Center on Tuesday January 12, 2016. This is also a great opportunity to learn about the services available for Millstadt Township seniors.

Thank-You Subaru The Millstadt Township Senior Center was recently awarded a $1450 Grant from Subaru for the Meals on Wheels program. If you’ve been watching TV commercials recently you may have seen the Subaru ad showing a series of bumper stickers. The bumper stickers, remember bumper stickers, represent the organizations and charities that Subaru supports. One of the bumper stickers, if you look quickly is for Meals on Wheels. With state and federal funding reduced from $6000 a month to $4000 a month this grant can’t come at a better time. Thank-you Subaru for your financial assistant, and for helping to keep our Meals on Wheels program solvent.

Quilt Raffle Winners December Drawing The winner of the beautiful handmade quilt made by Millstadt Senior Center quilters is Susan Saeger of Millstadt. Richard Chadeayne is the winner of the baby quilt and Mary Lou Galle won the afghan. The quilters meet each Monday and Wednesday on the second floor of the Community Center and work on quilts for the next drawing. Thank-you to all our quilters and those of you who purchased raffle tickets. A new quilt will be raffled in June and tickets will be available early in 2016.

DID YOU SIGN IN? Knowing who is at lunch at the Center is important for a num-ber of reasons. First of all it’s good to keep track so if someone isn’t there for a few days we can contact them to make sure everything is ok. Second, when you sign in and are registered we are able to submit your name to receive our grant money to help pay for the meals. A way to look at it is that if you aren’t registered and signed in we can’t send a bill for your lunch to the Area Agency on Aging.

Do you shop on Amazon? Now there is a new version of the company's website – smile.amazon.com – the company will donate 0.5% of the purchase price to charity. Customers pick their charity through the new website and there are almost one million to choose from, including Sandra Marie Bereitschaft Foundation (supports Millstadt, Freeburg and Smithton Meals on Wheels program). There is no cap on the amount Amazon will donate and almost every physical product sold by the company is eligible, which means tens of millions of items. Digital goods are not included, but that may come in the future. Everything else about the Amazon online shopping experience stays the same, including the shopping cart, wish lists and shipping options. The prices will also be the same, so these donations will suck some of the profit out of each sale Amazon makes through the program. Please be sure to sign up, shop and add “Sandra Marie Bereitschaft Foundation” as your designated charity. Thank you. http://smile.amazon.com

Fondling In Bed After 20 years of marriage, a couple was lying in bed one evening, when the wife felt her husband begin to fondle her in ways he hadn’t in quite some time. It almost tickled as his fingers started at her neck, and then began moving down. He continued on and then suddenly stopped, rolled over and started to watch the tv. As she had become quite aroused by this caressing she asked in a loving voice, “That was wonderful. Why did you stop?” He said, “I found the remote”. McDuck—This water fowl was caught taking a swim

one morning in Lake McDonald across from the Senior Center.

2016 New Year’s Resolutions Let’s begin by reviewing how well we did on the resolutions we made back in 2015. Remember them? Most likely not. Resolutions are promises a person makes to do an act of self-improvement. Keep your resolutions simple and resolve to do something to make you a better person in 2016: *Laugh more often; *Eat more fresh foods; *Read a poem; *Drink less alcohol; *Think positive; *Complain less; *Write a letter to a friend or relative; Most of us fail to stick with our resolutions because they are too demanding, too vague or too unrealistic. How can you be one of those who will keep their resolutions? Start by writing down your 2016 Resolutions and then do something!

Crafts And Fun Shea Lanaghan did a great job this Christmas season of making sure everyone had homemade Christmas decorations at their house. They made beautiful ribbon trees, snowball shakers, snowflakes, ornaments and Christmas mugs. Shea is here every Thursday at 9:00 am if you would like to participate.

SHIP Corner Millstadt Township Senior Center is a sponsoring agency for Senior Health Insurance Program help and we recently received our 2015 updated Manual. During the coming months I will be sharing with you some information that I feel is important and informational. Organization and Administration of the SHIP Program: SHIP was initiated in July of 1988 by the Illinois Department of Insurance in response to the needs of Illinois’ senior citizens regarding their health insurance. In April of 2013, under Executive Order by the Governor, SHIP was transferred to the Illinois Department on Aging. The organizational structure of SHIP consists of: • The Illinois Department on Aging, which provides initial training, continuing education and ongoing support of SHIP counselors; • The sponsoring organization (Millstadt Township Senior Services), which provides coordinators, office space and office support services; • The coordinator (Patty Evansco), who is responsible for the administrative aspects of the SHIP program, which include publicizing SHIP services, recruiting volunteers, scheduling counseling sessions and responding to counselors’ needs; and • Counselor Patty Evansco meets with clients individually to provide objective information about health insurance, advocacy assistance, or referral if appropriate. The state is divided geographically into four separate SHIP regions: Cook County, Northern Illinois, Central Illinois and Southern Illinois. Within each region, counselors are organized in to units that serve a specific geographic area, usually designated by counties.

Community Center & Park Pavilions Rental If you are looking for a place to have a graduation, baby, bridal or birthday party consider renting the Millstadt Community Center or a pavilion at the park. Call the Village Hall at 476-1514 for rental information.

Clothing Donations Is it time to clean-out closets to make room for those Christmas gifts you know you’ll be getting? Clothing items may be donated to the Senior Center Thrift Store located on the second floor of the Community Center. Gently used clothing items are also for sale. Donations for items are requested to support Senior Center activities and the Meals on Wheels program. Remember your clothing items may also be donated to the collection box at the IGA parking lot will add to the proceeds IGA collects and donates to the Senior Center. With the help of your donations 20,000 meals were served to Seniors in Millstadt Township last year.

Advantage One Jamie Foeller of Millstadt who works at Advantage One in Belleville and is also the mother of Violet Foeller who donated money this summer through her efforts at an old fashioned Lemonade Stand at the Homecoming. Jamie along with Michelle Rist of Millstadt rallied their fellow employees to help collect “Wish List” items for the Millstadt Senior Center. The response was overwhelming!

We got our first load on November 30, 2015 that included paper towels, plates, lemonade, creamer and other items. But the big surprise came on December 17th when it took Berry Bashan of Millstadt, Jamie Foeller and Dian Reppy of St Louis to carry and cart everything in that they had collected. WRITER’S GUIDELINES One does not have to be a professional writer in order to submit articles to Senior Talk. All it takes is the desire to share your thoughts or feelings with the rest of us. Tell us about what matters to you. Share your his-tory, your fears, and your triumphs. There is a “Brag Corner,” where you can tell others about your new car, or how your grandchild just graduated from Harvard, or about your prize-winning roses. Give us your recipe for deviled eggs or tell us how you stay married to the same person for 50 years! It is best to keep the length of the article to no more than 500 words. We reserve the right to edit all materials. Be sure to include your name, address, and telephone number and email address, if you have one. Articles can be dropped off at the center, mailed, or emailed to [email protected]

Untangling Your Telephone Bill Opportunities to Save for AT&T Customers For most callers, the best phone deals in Illinois are the Consumer's Choice plans. It's not often that the state's largest telephone company offers calling plans that were designed by the state's largest telecom watchdog group. The Consumer's Choice plans were created by CUB to protect consumers under a legal settlement with AT&T in 2006, as Illinois' phone market was deregulated. Later, as phone lobbyists pushed to end the plans, consumer advocates successfully convinced the General Assembly to freeze the prices of the plans at least until June 2013, when legislators will revisit the issue. CUB's Phone Savings Center offers an online calculator, called the Local Phone Cost-cutter, to determine the best AT&T plan for you. Users of the tool have cut their bills by $8.9 million a year—an average of $195 per year per person. We also have a Consumer Hotline (1-800-669-5556) staffed with experts who can help you determine the best phone plan. Darryl Muskopf of Millstadt used the Citizens Utility Board to help get his phone repaired and asked that we share this number. I noticed by reading they also have a plan available to Illinois citizens. Citizens Utility Board (CUB) (800) 669-5556

Services Available Meals on Wheels One of the Center’s most important programs, the Meals on Wheels program provides daily meals to people who have difficulty getting out of the house and/or cooking for themselves. Not only are we able to supply necessary food, but the driver delivering the meal is able to ascertain how the client is getting along and share some companionship. We have a number of folks dedicated to providing these services. They give freely of their time and energy to deliver the meals, make contact with the recipient and report back to the Center. The majority of the “regular” drivers volunteer one day per week and most have said it is highly rewarding for them.

Lunch Program Lunch is served Monday through Friday at 12 noon. You must be 60 years of age or older to qualify for this program. It is appreciated that if you want lunch you call the center by 3:00 pm in order to sign up for lunch on the following day. When you come in you may sign yourself up for the next day. If you like, you may sign up for the entire week or month. If you know that you can not make it and you have signed up, please call and let us know that you will not be here and tell us when you will be back for lunch. If you have any questions concerning the lunch program please contact Patty Evansco at 476-3731.
