“Shot to the Dot at this very spot, you could win a lot, so see what I’ve got!”

- Mushka & Shoshana

Grade 5/6B tested a variety of gliders and then had a contest to see which gliders were most successful for both distance and flying in a loop. Paper cuts aside, fun was had, and who doesn’t like throwing paper a i r p l a n e s a c r o s s t h e i r classroom?

MATH Carnival

By Mushka P., Grade 8

The Grade 7/8 Math Carnival was an awesome, smashing success! The students had a blast in class - brainstorming, creating and testing their games. But most of all, it was about the essential knowledge they learned about theoretical and experimental probability. The lesson came alive when they saw how to apply these skills to the real-live carnival!

To the delight of Grades 1, 3, and 5/6 students, they were the lucky ones to try out the phenomenal games. From "Tick-Tack-Toe-Toss", "Pop for a Prize", and "Shoot the Hoop", the thrilling games entertained and captivated all of the players.

Prizes ranged from real cups of Coca-Cola, glittery necklaces, charming erasers, and more. The whole carnival resulted in oodles of happy children.

During the week of the Yom Tov of Shavuos, Pre-K enjoyed learning through play and created these awesome projects. Great job!

The Konei Olam-our middos program for the Grade 2 & 3 students wrapped up last week. We are so proud of all of the students’ accomplishments. Thank you, Mrs. Salter, for introducing the children to this meaningful program. Mazel tov!

Daycare enjoyed their afternoon indoor fishing with Kindergarten. We are not sure if they caught anything, but like a lot of fishing stories, we are sure the fish they caught were 3’ long and weighed 25 lbs!

Grade 3 had an amazing time using their engineering skills to build and test strong and stable bridges. We were tasked with the challenge of creating a bridge that could hold 3kg and span 45cm, all while remaining within a budget. We had a great time and learned so much!

On the eve of the Yom Tov of Shavuos, the boys from Grade 4 through Grade 12 together with their Rebbeim joined together in the Shul for our annual Matan Torah special learning session studying Mishna Bikkurim. What a great way to prepare for Yom Tov!

Kindergarten’s Officer Shmuli had received a hot tip and temporarily held Menorah’s Menahel for questioning. The anonymous tip was found to be false and he was released without incident and a warning, “Rabbi Sass, Slurpees are delicious and it’s important to read the label, we want to make sure it’s kosher, but next time, the entire school would like one!”

Throughout the school, Lag B’Omer activities and projects were taking shape. Bonfires made on top of cupcakes, to Pretzel/marshmallow/and BBQ chip bonfires, to the non-edible, playdough, sticks and tissue p a p e r b o n f i r e s . Aw e s o m e projects, teachers!

Kindergarten and P r e - K j o i n e d forces and learned a b o u t t h e i m p o r t a n c e o f ladybugs to our environment. Our students first made a safe shelter for their new friends, as they were shipped to us practically frozen and they needed to wake up! They learned what ladybugs need to survive. For example, what they need to eat and what environment best suits them. They released them a few days after and the kids enjoyed seeing their friends go to work!Fun Facts: 1) They are also known as lady birds. 2) They eat aphids and other crop-eating insects 3) They can withstand very harsh winters 4) Ladybugs do not sting, carry disease or eat our food supplies

withARTMRS. SIMONSHello from the Art Room!

The month of May focused on Printmaking and finishing up of drawing units.

Our June focus, for the classes that have completed printmaking, will begin experimenting with medium of clay to create small sculptures.

The Grade 5/6 Boys and Girls did a fantastic job applying foreshortening techniques using their own hands and feet to create the illusion of figures falling back.

Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten worked together to create Spring Kites inspired by the Bear and Kite book.

The Grade 7/8 Boys and Girls have their multiple line technique drawings on display and have begun Screen Printmaking.

Thanks you to Aliza L. for creating the Relief Printmaking display of the Grade 4 Optical Art Compositions.

Grade 5/6B have been testing different types of flight throughout our Air and Aerodynamics unit. One of our final experiments was trying to design a parachute or method of dropping an egg from a height and having it come out uncracked! We had a messy, fun time planning and dropping our eggs.

In the last couple of weeks our Toddler & Nursery students were very busy! They prepared little "Aron Kodesh" for the holy day of Shavout. They put a little Torah in it and decorated one of the ten

commandments that means: “Honour your father and your mother.”

We also played a new game, that’s super fun and it’s also easy to make at home! Cut a hole in a styrofoam plate, grab 5 identical sized balls, a tray for underneath, and then all you have to do is try to get the ball through! For a more difficult challenge, get 5 different coloured balls and do them in an specific order! As spring is here, they also experienced sprouting seeds like grass seeds, beans and chick-peas. Time passes quickly when we are busy… and now we are all in preparations for our graduation party. Join us Tuesday, June 12, 10:30am!

Our Grade 7/8 girls were busy making cinnamon buns and ice cream for Shavous. Great job! They were delicious!

Davening Diamonds celebrated their second jar with a trip to McQueen Park. Davening Diamonds emphasizes the importance of Davening. The top ‘Daveners’ are awarded a diamond, and they place the diamond in a jar. When that jar is filled, they are awarded a field trip or activity. Great job, Daveners!

Grade 4-8 boys went on a field trip to our local Apple Store. We pract iced our computer coding s k i l l s , a n d learned how to guide little robotic spheres through mazes on the floor. A big thank you to all of our volunteers and the fabulous staff at the Apple Store!

Likras ShabbosThe boy’s high school was very privileged to a hands on and interactive class learning all about Safrus. We were joined by Rabbi Krakovsky from Philadelphia who took us on a tour of the many different elements involved in the writing and preparation of Kosher Sifrei Torah, Teffilin and Mezuzos.

Following the class, a few of our students were even inspired to have their Teffilin checked by the Sofer (the accepted custom is every 7/8 years) in order to ascertain that they are wearing top quality and kosher Teffilin! A big thank you to our visiting scribe and also to our friends at Chabad of Edmonton, specifically Rabbi Ari Drelich for facilitating this class.
