A MESSAGE OF THANKS to the ARDA Family

Look Back and Be Inspired By Mila Banks, Director/Executive Secretary

January 2013. Lunar Festival May 2013. Asian Pacific Islander Festival June 2013. Family Camping

As is our tradition, at the end of

every term, PVFAA looks back at

the past two years from 2012

through 2013 and marvel at how

we, as an organization, have come

so far from our humble beginnings

to becoming a viable force in our

communities, not only in our vision

of uniting our ethnic people but

more so in reaching to all our

    friends, neighbors and strangers

    across race, faith and traditions.

    From such reflections, we take

pride and derive inspiration to forge on further to serve

not only our own people but the community at large.

Under the Chairmanship of Mr. Val Arda, backed by

the dedication and strong support of its Board members,

the general membership and volunteers, PVFAA has

successfully launched its program for the youth.

Through the direct efforts of Mr. Mario Nazareno, Jr.,

Chair for Community Outreach, the Asian Pacific Youth

Workshops dubbed as “Making Connections” which

addressed how to Manage Stress of Going to College

and Parent Expectations, were held in late summer this

year, in cooperation with the Asian Pacific Islanders

Student Programs (API) of UCR and with the material

and financial support from the Riverside County Depart-

ment of Mental Health (RCDOMH). Already in the

works are plans for future collaboration with these enti-

ties to develop our youth's civic consciousness and pre-

    pare them for life.

For the past two years, PVFAA has initiated com-

    memorative programs to celebrate Filipino-American

Heritage and History Month in October with “Larawan”

and the Independence Day display at Pechanga Casino,

The Perris Valley Filipino American Association, Inc.,

would like to take this opportunity to express our deep

gratitude to our outgoing chairman, Mr. Val Arda, his wife

Perla Arda and their son, Sam for their commitment and

contributions to PVFAA during the past two years of their

    leadership.

Their stewardship has been characterized by their tire-

less efforts to increase the credibility and visibility of

PVFAA to the Filipino American community in the Inland

    Empire.

We deeply appreciate their value, kindness and dedica-

tion. The greatest of things have been accomplished in

their two year term as Chair of PVFAA. We look forward

to their continued involvement with and support of

    PVFAA.

Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year !!

and the Independence Day display at Pechanga Casino, as

well as traditional church celebrations such as the

“Santacruzan” and “Simbang Gabi”. We supported the push

to include the contribution of Filipinos in the farm labor

movement in the social studies middle school curriculum

    through our website.

We have participated and our youth performed in both

Asian Pacific (Lunar) Festivals both in Riverside and San

Bernardino counties, in the Cancer Relay for Life in 2012,

and in the most recent Tour de Perris in early October 2013.

Our internal relationships with friends and family were

strengthened by our annual picnics, Sportsfests and the regu-

lar ‘pasayaw’ events as well as those special gatherings to

celebrate a marriages, baptisms and sympathized in the loss

    of beloved family members.

We have been challenged to face the disasters of our coun-

trymen and send whatever help we can, first with typhoon

Sendong in 2012 and lately, the Bohol earthquake of October

2013 and victims of typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan. Through all of

these we proved our Filipino bayanihan spirit.

The General Election for the members of the Board

was concluded on October 26, 2013. We welcome the

newly elected Chairman , Mr. Hermie Abrigo. New in

the list of directors for the term 2014-2015 are Renato

Santos, Eppie Peralta, Bading Terle and Marichu Om-

    bina.

To all the members of the Board of 2012-2013, our

outgoing Chairman Val Arda and first lady , Perla

Arda, our volunteers and supporters, we give thanks.

Thank you for the inspiration to continue with our vi-

sion to improve the quality of life in our communities,

and thereby, the world at large.

MESSAGE Hermie Abrigo, Incoming Chairman (2014-2015)

My warm greetings, best wishes to all

the members of the PVFAA for this

    holiday season!

I would like to commend the sense of

nationalism of this association for being

aware, conscious and concern to the

    situations affecting our beloved country.

    Amidst great weather catastrophes that

our country has encountered this year,

you have remained steadfast in support-

ing your families and relatives in the

Philippines. To top of it all, you have

carried and willingly shared the ele-

ments of Filipino culture and tradition to

the Filipino-Americans here in this country where we live.

May this coming 2014 serve as a challenge to work together

in living lives of selfless service not only here in the USA but

to the entire Filipino nation as well. I encourage everyone to

soar higher towards the attainment of your personal aspira-

tions and the association’s vision and mission.
