Dear Friends, What a joy it is to have finally arrived solidly in spring…the flowers blooming, the sound of lawn mowers in the air, the sight of a bird’s nest tucked away in a safe place! Our Sunday school year has just come to an end – thank you to all who help make our Sunday school and confirmation program such a high-quality event. It is a delight to serve a congregation with so many active students! As we all know, even though the Sunday school year has now ended (and will start up again in September) that doesn’t mean our learning stops! Every Sunday morning, we gather for a time of worship and learning (and fellowship). I am excited about trying something new for our Vacation Bible School. As you read in another article in this newsletter, we will be gathering for an intergenerational event on Wednesday, June 12. Study after study shows the value of different generations working together – it is so important for our youth to know there are other adults who know their names and who enjoy being with them. This is just one opportunity we have to make that happen – and, I suspect, both the youth AND the adults will benefit from that evening. Not to mention the agencies that we are collecting much needed items for! There is so much good work going on both locally and worldwide to make the world a better place – this is just one more way we can be a part of that. I pray that God will work through each of us to help others know of God’s love!
In Christ,
Pastor Janet Wold

COUNCIL POSITION OPEN
Mihcal McClelland and family are moving to Wisconsin at the end of June. Mihcal currently serves as our Fellowship Chair on our church council, therefore creating a vacancy on our council. There is 1 1/2 years left on her term. Do you like to get together with your other All Saints friends? This might be the position for you! The Fellowship Chair schedules and helps implement fellowship events - such as Game Day, outing to Timberlake Playhouse, the Chili Supper, and Easter Breakfast. You can decide what events you'd like to have happen. Other folks help with making these events happen - it's not all up to you! Church council meets on the second Monday of the month at 7 pm. If you have questions about this, please contact Mihcal, Pastor or Mike Reibel.

Bible Studies (in the main conference room #310)
Tuesday Night Bible Study - Meets at 7:00 pm in the main conference room (#310), led by Steve Reid The Tuesday night Bible Study, for June, will be viewing the movie "RISEN." It is an epic biblical story of the resurrection as told through the eyes of a non-believer, a powerful Roman military tribune who was tasked by Pontius Pilate to find the body of Jesus in order to disprove the rumors of a risen Messiah and prevent an uprising in Jerusalem. The group meets every Tuesday night at 7:00 pm. All are welcome. Feel free to join us. Wednesday Afternoon & Sunday Morning Bible Studies
The Wednesday afternoon and Sunday morning Bible Studies will be on hiatus for the summer and will resume after Rally Day in September.

Fellowship Game Day was held on May 19th and enjoyed by all who attended. Mihcal McClelland tendered her resignation due to a move to Wisconsin. See the news article elsewhere in this issue of the Saintly News to see how you can help fill this vacancy on the Congregation Council.
Quilters The Quilters will meet on June 6 from 9 am to 11 am. All are invited to stop by during this time to see what we do, and enjoy the fellowship we share. We are grateful for all of the donations of sheets and fabric. The closet is filling up! Thank you to everyone who stepped up after my injury and made it possible for the quilting to continue without missing a beat. —Millie Knodle
The Gathering The GATHERING will meet on Tuesday, June 11 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am in the Fellowship Hall at church. Bring your current project to work on or just come and enjoy the fellowship, friendship, and food!
A big thank you to Gary Asher for the beautiful quilt hanger he created for the Sunday School wing of the church. The Sunday School children have been busy decorating quilt blocks that will be assembled and then hung from the quilt rack in the coming months.
Well, spring is supposed to be here and occasionally it feels like it is. We had a very successful Spring Clean-up Day and were able to get the church grounds spruced up! Thank you to all of our wonderful members that showed up and helped! Mowing season is underway and so far, we've been able to dodge rain to keep everything mowed. We are now working on getting estimates for tree removal, a cracked floor repair and new carpet in the sanctuary (or part of it), wrapping up the fascia project, and the staining/painting of the outside of the church. There is no shortage of items on the to do list. Also, when the weather cooperates flowers will magically appear. Anyone interested in helping to gather estimates on projects feel free to let me know. The process is a challenge and any help would be appreciated. Doug Knodle - Property Chair
Outreach Thank you to everyone who participated in the Meals on Wheels food distribution program for April/May. The individuals receiving these meals are very appreciative of this service. The next Meals on Wheels distribution by All Saints will be held during the month of October. If you would like to help deliver meals, please contact Jim Wilcox.

WELCA The WELCA group has had a busy couple of weeks. The rummage sale held April 25-27 was a success! We made a little over $1500 dollars. The remaining items not sold were taken to Rockford Rescue Mission and Angel's Treasures in Winnebago. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the sale and to those who worked to set up, sell, and cleanup. This is a huge project and takes many hands. May 4th, the WELCA group had its first meeting of the year. There were 11 in attendance. The officers for the year were decided: Marlene Roberts-President, Carol Miller -Secretary, Jan Sloan -Treasurer, Jo Marie Branson- Sunshine. After much discussion, it was voted on that after 18 years of rummage sales under Marlene's direction, this past sale would be our last one. There will be other activities planned throughout the year to replace the fundraising efforts of this group. Thank you, Marlene for all your years of dedicated commitment to this project. Some projects in the planning stages are the Trunk or Treat combined with the chili supper, and a baked potato dinner. To better inform members of WELCA activities, a space has been developed on bulletin board #1 to post minutes, conference information, and upcoming activities. Please check out this area for news about WELCA. Looking ahead, the next All Saints WELCA meeting is scheduled for September 14, 2019 with a breakfast potluck at 9:00 am.

Library News The following books will be on the library cart by the church's front door during the month of June. Donated by Deb and Tom Curtis:
Fearless by Max Lucado - "What if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats? Fear will always knock on your door. Just don't invite it in for dinner. And for heaven's sake, don't offer it a bed for the night."
Miracle at Midway by Gordon W. Prange is an account of Midway Island as the U.S. Pacific Fleet waited for the Japanese Navy. This time the American troops surprised the Japanese and won the battle. Read the eyewitness accounts from those who commanded and the men who fought on both sides.
Angels on the Night Shift, Inspirational True Stories from the ER. By Robert D. Lesslie, M.D.
Also being added to the library are:
Something Beautiful Happened by Yvette Manessis Corporon is a personal memoir of the author and her quest to find the descendants of the family her grandmother and the people of the Greek island of Erikousa hid from the Nazis during WWII.
Her Tycoon Hero, a Heartsong Presents, by Narelle Atkins - Set in Australia, Cassie works hard to change the party girl image she had to an event planner career girl she is now. Ryan comes into her life but is slow to trust until Cassie's faith makes its way into his heart.
Martha, a Novel by Diana Wallis Taylor is a well-researched portrayal of Martha, sister of Mary and Lazarus. "She has spent her life caring for others - will she ever find someone who will cherish her?"
Book Club The Book Club is in hiatus until September. Due to the harsh winter weather this winter we were unable to read and discuss as many books as usual this season. Our normal Book Club schedule is September - November and January - May. We meet on the fourth Monday of the month at 1:00 pm at All Saints. We welcome anyone who wishes to join us.
Serenity Hospice and Home Foundation - 27th Annual Jonathon Knodle Memorial Golf Outing - June 15, 2019 Spring is finally here, so it’s time to get started on our 27th Annual Jonathon Knodle Memorial Golf Outing. As always, we look forward to your participation in this year’s outing. As many of you know, this event is held in memory of our son, Jonathon, who died in 1990. We were extremely fortunate to be helped by Hospice during his final months. Our mission is to ensure Hospice is there for our families, friends, and neighbors, when needed. Thanks to all of you, we continue to be one of the largest fundraisers for Hospice, allowing them to continue providing end-of-life services to those in need. We hope you will join us this year! Raffles, prizes, silent auction items, and on-course contests await. We are truly overwhelmed by your continued support of this mission. This year's event will be held on Saturday, June 15th. It will be a best ball scramble format (all members of your group tee off, select the best shot, and then all hit from that location, continuing this format until you have finished each hole). This format works well for golfers of all abilities and makes for a fun day. If you would like to be a part of this event, you can register online at Serenityhospiceandhome.org or by calling 815-732-2499.

All Saints Annual Blood Drive On April 25th All Saints held the annual blood drive. The drive was held from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Shortly after noon the Rock River Valley Blood Center associates arrived at the church and began to set up for the blood drive. It was interesting to watch the fellowship hall converted into the blood collection center for the day. During the drive there was 47 units of blood collected which will be used to save 141 lives. There were also 2 new donors who came to the drive to donate, and are now on the RRVBC blood donor list. All Saints, as always, exceeded the goals set for the drive by the RRVBC. Thank you to all who helped makes this drive possible. Special thanks to Jan Sloan who did a GREAT JOB making calls from the donor list and filling the drive schedule.
Blessings, Jim Wilcox, Social Ministry Chairman

Finance Report
Change to Vacation Bible School this Summer at
All Saints! Wednesday, June 12th We decided to try a new direction for VBS this summer and set up an intergenerational evening of fun instead of the week of mornings children usually attend. Mark your calendar for Wednesday, June 12th beginning at 5 p.m. and lasting until 7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome...all ages. Join in the whole time, or join us for the hours that fit in your schedule. Our evening will begin with a simple dinner for all who can attend. Just bring yourself and enjoy fellowship over sandwiches. After dinner, we will move to the sanctuary and continue with skits, Bible lessons and singing. We will finish the evening by working on our community service project craft. All hands can take part in decorating canvas bags for foster kids during our craft time. The foster children will use these bags to move clothes and personal items. Every year at Vacation Bible School, we choose an organization to support. This year we have two local places we are supporting - Rock House Kids and Children's Home and Aid. We are asking those who are able to donate the following items to help the kids in these two programs. Rock House Kids: Boys and Girls New, Modest Swimwear (1 piece for girls) Sizes 6X to Adult 2X. Children's Home and Aid: New Socks and Underwear for All Sizes from Kids to Adults Sizes. We have applied for Thrivent grants to help offset the cost of the dinner and the canvas bags. Thanks to Thrivent for helping us to help others. This should be a fun evening for all ages. Please sign up on the sign-up sheet on Bulletin Board # 2 to help us know how much food to purchase for dinner.
