Hornet Spotlight Shines on Brianna Edwards and Torey Johnson

This week’s Hornet Spotlight shines brightly on Bri-anna Edwards. After

she graduates high school she plans to attend Southwest

Georgia Technical College for a major in Criminal Justice. Five years from the

day of her graduation she plans to be pursing her career as a Criminal Inves-tigator. She chose this plan because she has a heart

for her people and really wants to protect them every day of her life. With this being her first time as Hornet Spotlight, she thinks it is pretty cool to be recognized.

The best to her about her school would be her class-mates because she believes the Class of 2014 has the most school spirit and represents being a Hornet very

well. She not only enjoys being a Pelham Hornet, but she loves being a Hornet. Advice given to the under-classmen would be, “There is a time and place for everything. Be serious about all work and stay focused

on what could help you graduate because hard work always pays off in the end.” Good luck, Brianna!

This week’s Hornet Spotlight also shines brightly on Torey Johnson. After he graduates, he plans to

attend Southwest Georgia Technical College to major in accounting. He also plans to get a job ASAP. In 5 years Torey would like to have a degree

in accounting and be working in a field in which he is actually using the skills that he will learn in col-lege. Torey is happy to be featured in the spotlight and wonders what took the Buzz so long to make

him the Hornet Spotlight! He says the best thing about Pelham to him is the people. “From the staff to the students, everyone looks out for each other.”

He has truly enjoyed his 4 years here at Pelham High School and says he will never forget

the memories. To-rey’s advice to the underclassmen is

“Senioritis is real. Don’t let it get you too badly or you could live to regret

it.” Best of luck, Torey!

The Pelham High School Band is having the annual Spring Con-cert on Thursday, May 15th at the Pelham Middle School Audito-

rium. The band will be playing five songs. These songs are Peacemaker, Pachebel’s Canon, Then I Saw the Lucent Sky, Kentucky 1800, and March Slav. It is free admission so come

out to hear the band!

If you are interested in playing Pelham High School softball for the upcoming season, stop by Mrs. Bulloch’s room by Wednes-

day, May 14th to pick up softball information sheets. There will be a car wash at Pelham Banking Company to raise money for camps over this summer. The car wash will be held on

June 14th and is $20 for all vehicles. Please stop by and help the Lady Hornets work their way to camp.

Dear Reader,

Please take the time out of your day to view this article. Be open and accepting if you can. These are teens that you share this school with; they walk the same halls,

go through a long boring Monday just like you, and are very much human too. A reject, no matter how friendly they are, most of the students here still refuse to accept them because they don’t meet the standards that the school’s social society puts up. Misfits are also apart from the crowd but usually of their own choice. This

doesn’t mean they don’t need someone to accept them. The two are both castaways and they know it; although they hide it very well. You never know who someone really is; sometimes we ourselves don’t know who we are. So, why do you shy away

from them? Have you asked yourself that question, or are you afraid to become invisible, the center of gossip and not the good kind, or just be forgotten by your friends? We really hope the article Rejects and Misfits gives you a different way of

thinking. Maybe, just maybe you’ll be brave enough to reach out to them. Show

them that they are wanted.

ANONYMOUS- Misfit, all the way! Yes, I’m loud but I want to be heard. I was emo-tionally abused by my Dad when I was younger before he left my Mom for some other woman. He never wanted to spend time with me and when he did, he always

talked crap about Mom, saying I would be just like her; afraid of life and not worth a dime. My Mom is amazing but depressed and lonely. So, she’s not the most social person, but she loves me and that’s good enough or it should be. I act out at school

to be noticed. Of course, I want attention and your saying that doesn’t offend me. Why shouldn’t I? I really have no one at home to talk about my day with. I can’t tell Mom about my problems because it will just put more weight on her shoulders that

are already caving. I’m not mean to people because I know it’s not right. One wrong word or action could kill someone. Next time some of you start to be cruel or tease a person, think about the fact that the next day, they could be gone forever. Could

you live with yourself? I’m done. Thank you for listening.

ANONYMOUS- I’m a guy that’s moody with really bad anger issues. I’m not a misfit

though. I don’t purposely make a scene. The way I am most of the time is laid back and not a care in the world. Skateboarding, football, and video games. There’s more but it doesn’t seem to matter. It’s normal stuff right? That’s me, but when I blow-

up, I lose it. I scared my girlfriend and let’s just say we went our separate ways. Being rejected by the people you love hurts the most. After you let them in; they break you. I’m sorry to her and all the people I snapped on. The thing is… I’m not

that guy anymore. I still get mad and sometimes get into a fight. It’s not every day at least. Don’t be scared to talk to me. I’m not good at starting a conversation. Be

the first and if you’re alright to me, I’ll be good to you.

The River

Its water flows upstream. Salmon swim fast and free.

Fishermen are patient.

Their buckets still vacant. Deep sip water silently.

Martraze Battle, Brett Bailey, and Courtney Batchelor were the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. They were honored at a reception at Darton. Congratulations to these students
