From Our Presidents’ Pens Yes, we are now a registered Guild!! Thanks so much for all the work taken on by the executive - and for the positive support of our members. By the looks of our Guild calendar we are back for another fun-filled year. There are lots of activities and a variety of things to take part in - something for everyone. At our November meetings Brenda Stengel and Susan Purney Mark will present “Prize winning quilts- what do those judges want?” They will also be bringing a very special selection of patterns, books and kits. If you would like Brenda to bring any special items for sale from Satin Moon, e-mail her [email protected] Our two classes with Jane Townswick were a tremendous success. Val Ursulak really showed Jane a wonderful time - Jim cooked Thanksgiving dinner and Val drove Jane around to local sights and our favorite shops. On behalf of all the Guild members and class participants we thank you, Val. Our 25 th Anniversary Party was a wonderful event. We hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as the committee enjoyed putting all our history together. It was a real inspiration to hear stories about the beginning of our wonderful Guild, and to see just how far we have come in a short 25 years. We enjoyed meeting the founding members, honorary members and the many past presidents. Our 25 th Anniversary Committee took on a big project and really put together a fabulous evening for everyone. What about the fabulous snacks and all the prizes? The room looked festive and everyone mixed so well. Thank you Patty McRory, for taking on the roll of our M.C. You did a great job. Thanks to all of you who took pictures – please remember to send them to Avril for our web page and to our historians. This is just a reminder that we will again be collecting the Christmas Gift bags for teens at the November meeting. Previous to this meeting, Cathy Johnson, with the help of her students, organizeda Social afternoon of quilts at BowenPark. That afternoon, people were askedto write down their names and telephonenumbers if they were interested informing a Quilters Guild in Nanaimo.

At the October meeting, Leanne Aitkenfrom the City of Nanaimo, Parks andRecreation informed them they had $70(profits from the Social) in their kitty andthat Parks and Recreation would providea meeting room free of charge for 3months.

On Jan. 24, 1985, the Guild moved tothe Nanaimo Regional Library onFitzwilliam Street.

Notice of Motion: Proposed

Change to the Constitution of

the Comfort Quilt Society

At the next regular meeting of the Guild(probably January 2010) there will be amotion to make a minor change to theConstitution of the Comfort Quilt Society. The change is necessary to makebanking easier. The motion is as follows:

Moved by P. McRory, seconded byNancy Price-Munn:

To change Section 10 b to read “Thesigning officers of the Society shall bethe following, with any two (2) out of thefour (4) signatures required on a cheque:

I. President

II. Vice-President

III. Secretary

IV. Treasurer

This adds the vice-president to the listof people who can sign cheques for theSociety.

Comfort Quilt SocietyThe Annual General Meeting of theComfort Quilt Society will be held atNovember’s Nanaimo Quilt Guild meeting.

We need to elect a secretary , so if youare interested, please give it somethought.

The role of secretary is to “keep a recordof the proceedings of the society, attendto the correspondence, give due noticeof time and place of meetings, asrequired”. There are usually only 2meetings each year (one of the executiveand the other the Annual GeneralMeeting each November). This is not anonerous task. Correspondence is notheavy.

The current executive is: Patty McRory,President; Pat Clements, Vice-President;Nancy Price-Munn, Treasurer.

This is a great way to participate in theGuild in a meaningful way without a hugetime commitment.
