President’s Message

Dear Centro Ladies,

Blessed day to you!

The day of our governor's visit and induction moves

closer, hence, the pressure in us goes high. That's

normal. We have endured a lot of pressures in the

club but we have ended up having what the youth

would call today "Ngiting Tagumpay" afterwards. I

have witnessed how the club have handled all the

stress that we have encountered in my almost 4 years

of being a member, and there is nothing more reward-

ing seeing the fruits of our hard earned labor.

This just the start ladies. RI President Ravi encouraged

us to make a mark in our community. We have proven

our worth, we made our mark since 2001. This year,

let us carry the gifts we possess and use it to serve

the oppressed, underprivileged, unreached community

of Santa Rosa.

Yours in Rotary,

World Class President

Delphi Penelope “Pen” Cuya

President’s Message on Presidential Citation

As Rotary leaders, we all have a very important

role to play as administrators of this organization.

Everything we do in Rotary, every decision we

make, must be for the benefit of the members whom we represent

and who have placed their confidence in us. Our role is not only to

inspire our fellow Rotarians but to be sure Rotary functions at the

highest possible level in every respect.

To this end, the 2015-16 Presidential Citation encourages every club

president to make full use of Rotary Club Central and the other online

tools that have been developed by our Secretariat staff. All of these

tools are products of a great deal of time, thought, and investment.

They have all been provided to you for a reason: to help you plan

your service and to help us at RI aggregate that data.

This year’s citation goals can be verified using only the information

that clubs provide online. What’s more, club and district officers can

track their clubs’ progress toward each goal — and see where help is

needed — by signing in to the new Presidential Citation report.

As responsible administrators, we also have a duty to ensure the fu-

ture of our organization by finding new and innovative ways to

strengthen our membership. I am pleased to announce that we have

launched a new benefit program, to which every member is automati-

cally entitled, that brings you discounts and offers from reputable ser-

vices, establishments, and organizations. We do not expect or wish

anyone to join Rotary only for this benefit, but we hope that those

who are considering joining or leaving a club will view it as an added

value of membership: one more reason to join, one more reason not

to leave.

I hope that by making these changes, by putting good governance

and accountability and efficiency at the forefront of our Rotary prac-

tices, we will set an example for Rotary that will be an enduring gift

for many years to come. We will shirk no duty and overlook no oppor-

tunity to Be a Gift to the World.

Membership Matters by Rtn Myrna Valle

Editorial

Membership has always been a Rotary concern. This cannot be

stressed enough and has been repeatedly discussed by speakers

during district conferences, who are all saying that we, as Rotarians,

should make it our personal advocacy to improve our club’s mem-

bership numbers.

While the lectures dwelt on the importance of increasing and retain-

ing membership, very little was discussed on “how-to” to do it. But

thanks to the Rotary International website, particularly the discus-

sion forum, we can consider these ideas:

Attract young members. This idea has its merits and demerits.

Some argued that it is so difficult to recruit the younger set because

(1) they are not yet financially stable and (2) they are still busy rais-

ing their families and building careers. On the other hand, it is a

known fact that a good number of RI presidents who started out at

a very young age, proving that the younger set is a good source of

quality Rotarians. We can see that the objective of “attracting

young members” is probably

incomplete; what we are

looking to attract are the nat-

ural leaders who exhibit

strong leadership tendencies

at a young age. It could only

be an exercise in futility when

we try to recruit the younger

set just because we want to

have younger members.

Page 11: Volume 15 Issue 4 July 26 , 2015 - WordPress.com · 2015. 8. 14. · Volume 15 Issue 4 July 26 , 2015 The CENTROThe CENTRO Official Weekly ulletin Awarded est lub ulletin RY 2014-2015

Volume 15 Issue 4 July 26, 2015

Recruit potential Rotarians. When we say “potential Rotarians”,

we refer to those who are “most likely join”; in Sales and Marketing

parlance, the “market” of Rotary. These are the people who, know-

ingly or unknowingly, need or want what Rotary has to offer. Look-

ing at the profile of Rotarians, the average age is anywhere from

late 50’s to early 60’s. One of the

reasons is because this is the age

when a person has reached his

maturity stage. In Maslow’s Hier-

archy of Needs, we can see that

Rotary answers the needs at the

topmost level of the pyramid i.e.

the self-actualization stage, and

these needs are often attained

during a person’s advanced age.

So why insist on attracting young members who do not belong to

our “market”? There is a huge pool of potential Rotarians aged 45

and above who are still able-bodied, willing and raring to serve!

Engage new members. The whole idea of Rotary is service

above self; ergo, engagement in service projects is not only needed,

it is expected. It is when expectations are not met that we experi-

ence attrition of members; therefore it is crucial that our clubs deliv-

er this requirement. Service projects are the meat of a Rotary club’s

survival; without it, it will just be another group of people meeting

once a week.

With meaningful and active service projects, existing members

should see to it that all members are engaged. This will ensure ful-

fillment of the ideals of Rotary, and having a Rotarian for life.

See https://www.rotary.org/ for more great ideas!
