Principals Message Dear Parents & Guardians,

2017 NAPLAN Testing Program:

Well done to our Grade 3 and 5 students who today completed the last of this

year’s NAPLAN tests. I was very impressed with the attitude of the students

sitting the Tests and the manner that the staff prepared them for what can be a

stressful time for our students.

Volunteer’s Week:

This week is National Volunteer’s Week. At Westbreen we are fortunate to have

a large number of volunteer’s supporting the school. Our volunteer’s assist in a

wide range of activities from classroom help, administration assistance, being

active members of our various sub committees and helping keep our playground

neat and safe. To all our VOLUNTEER’S, TEAM WESTBREEN appreciates all

your efforts and we say a very SPECIAL THANK YOU. If you are interested in

volunteering, please see Ms. Michelle or ring to speak to her on 93069481.

Enrolments for 2018:

We would really like to encourage families who have a child starting Foundation

/ Prep next year to submit their enrolment forms into school as soon as possible

so planning for 2018 can begin. Also, if you know of any families intending to

enrol children at Westbreen Primary School for next year in other year levels

please encourage them to come and see us as soon as possible, the school

conducts tours every Tuesday.

Picking up children:

Please take care when dropping off or picking up your children in West Street and surrounding streets. It is

ILLEGAL to stop your car in the middle of the road and call your children to walk out between the parked

cars to get into your car. The children have been asked to wait by the BIG Red W, inside the school gate,

back away from the footpath and road. Remember that you are not permitted to park, stand, or wait in the

staff car park. Please help to keep our children safe.

Mother’s Day

To all our Mothers we wish you a very Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday. Enjoy the sleep in and the extra

special attention.

To our Parents & Friends Association thank you for providing, our students with the opportunity of

purchasing a special gift their loved ones.

Have a wonderful week,

Tony Cerra. Principal

STAR VIEWING-

NIGHTS

Tuesday 30th May, 2017

Tuesday 6th June, 2017

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

As part of our Science Program, Pascoe Vale Girls’ College have invited our families to

join them once again in a Star Viewing Night on Tuesday 30th May or Tuesday 6th

June from 6.30pm-8.00pm.

If you would like to see any more about the Telescopes in Schools program go to

https://telescopesinschools.wordpress.com/ or the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/telescopesinschools

This is a great opportunity for families to utilise the fabulous resources the Education

Department provides for the students. We are extremely grateful to Pascoe Vale Girls’

College for giving our families this opportunity. You will need to wear warm clothing

and bring a torch.

Students must be accompanied by an adult and a photo permission form

will need to be completed for all students attending.

If you are able to attend collect a registration form from me or the front office and bring it along on the night to Pascoe Vale Girls’ College. You do not need to return this form to Westbreen Primary School. If the sky is very overcast the evening may need to be postponed. Let’s hope for clear skies!!!!! Here are some apps you can use prior to the Star Viewing Evenings: On P.C’s Stellarium is really good for exploring what is in the night sky. (Also can be downloaded as an app on Apple or Android) Apple: GoSkyWatch, StarWalk and MoonGlobe lets you explore all the parts of the moon.

We hope to see everyone there!!!!

Our Weekly Recap Last week in After Care we spent our week learning all about ANZAC Day and its

significance to our country.

We made a beautiful Poppy Display to honour our fallen soldiers and created Soldier

Silhouettes to hang in our windows using coloured cellophane.

The highlights of our week were enjoying Anzac Biscuits and getting active with

games in the Hall.
