The Right, The Reason, The
Responsibility
We have the right to vote
because our fore parents
lobbied, fought and in some
cases, even died for this
sacred privilege. There is no
way we should take lightly
this history to achieve civil
rights in these United
States of America. We are
the beneficiaries of great
people, who sacrificed
much, for our freedom to
enjoy and participate in the
democratic process.
THEREFORE, WE WILL
VOTE!
The reason is simply clear that
our choices do matter in the
course of things in govern-
ment, and do determine the
outcomes regarding address-
ing the critical needs of citi-
zens in this great nation. Our
choices do matter, when it
comes to policy issues and
how community needs are
addressed. Our choices do
matter, regarding the impor-
tant delivery of goods to all
the people of our society.
THEREFORE, WE WILL VOTE!
The responsibility falls upon
our shoulders to maintain the
important gains of freedom,
justice and equity in our na-

From Spirit to Spirit tion. We cannot afford to lose
what we have gained by coop-
erative struggles across so
many decades. The struggle
for human dignity continues
and we are responsible to re-
ceive the baton, and pass it
on to coming generations.
America is great because the
common citizens have and
can make a difference.
THEREFORE, WE WILL VOTE!
Thank You for Your Vote!

Celebrating 200 Years
1812—2012
Let us come before His pres-
ence with THANKSGIVING
(Ps 95:2 KJV).
In everything give THANKS for
this is the will of God in Christ
Jesus concerning you
(I Thess 5:18 KJV).
When your heart is humble
enough to THANK God, it is
also fertile ground for God's
transformation and change.
THANKSGIVING opens your
heart to His best for you.
THANKING God for a simple
meal reminds you that every
bite you take, every breath
you breathe, and everything
you enjoy all come from His
hand. God is always good to
us, always working so dili-
gently in our lives. He is al-
ways doing something for us
and acting in our best inter-
est, so we need to respond by
letting Him know we appreci-
ate everything He does. The
Bible tells us about Jesus
healing ten lepers (LK 7:11-
19). One of them, seeing
that he was healed, came
back praising God in a loud
voice. Then he threw himself
at Jesus' feet and THANKED
Him. The saying "THANKS"
prayer is verbalizing the atti-
tude of gratitude. It is ex-
pressing appreciation to God
for His generosity. It is saying
"THANK YOU" for the specific
gifts He has given you. It is
an indication of humility and
the cure for complaining. And
it is one of the most powerful
things a person can do.
Never underestimate the
power of THANKSGIVING. It
has power to free God to do
the impossible. In the story of
Jehoshaphat, when he was
king of Judah and about to be
invaded by three strong ar-
mies, had no hope against
these enemies (2Cron 20:1-
18). But Jehoshaphat be-
lieved in the power of
THANKSGIVING. He ap-
pointed men who led the way
into battle by singing, "Give
THANKS to the Lord, for His
love endures forever" (2
Chron. 20:21-22 KJV). Saying
"THANKS" prayers freed God
to do the impossible. The
people of Judah did not even
have to fight. THANKSGIVING
had opened the door for God
to fight their enemies for
them. Jehoshaphat's people
only had to walk in and grab
the spoils of victory. Notice
that it says, "As they began to
sing and praise, the Lord set
ambushes". The Lord set the
ambushes as they gave
THANKS, not before. God did
not act until they said
"THANKS." Giving THANKS
shows you fully understand
that Devine events come only
from the hand of God. When
you THANK God for the provi-
sion for each day, you tell Him
you appreciate His loving care
for you, and at the same time
you acknowledge His perfect
will and rule over your life. Your
relationship with Him grows,
and His peace guards your
heart as you gratefully focus
on Him. THANK God for les-
sons He has taught you.
THANK Him regarding trials He
has seen you through and how
they have benefitted your life.
THANK God for things that you
believe He is going to do for
you in the future. THANK God
for key people in your life.
Think of family and friends,
fellow workers and neighbors.
THANK God for authorities,
spiritual mentors, pastors,
teachers and missionaries.
THANK God for the gift of His
Holy Spirit and His Word. Also
THANK Him for the gifts of
faith, hope and love. Could
there be big and impossible
things God wants to do in our
lives that will not occur until we
say "THANKS"? Could it be
that the glorious presence of
God in our lives would be mani-
fest if we took more time to
say "THANKS"? Could it be
that the glorious presence of
God we seek will not manifest
until after we say "THANKS"?
God has awesome blessings in
store for you as you apply the
saying "THANKS" prayer.

Councilman Weeks urged all mem-
bers to vote in favor of the bond issue
that will greatly impact Wake Tech’s
future. We were reminded to vote first
for the Presidential candidate of our
choice. Secondly one could vote ei-
ther a straight Democratic or Republi-
can ticket. Third, one would have to
vote for their judicial choices and fi-
nally, the bond issue. A list of those
candidates endorsed by RWCA was
distributed. We pray that every mem-
ber of First Baptist, of voting age, will
exercise this important right as a citi-
zen. We thank Mrs. Cardrienne Gill
and her Committee for their efforts to
keep us informed.
The third speaker for the month of
October came to speak with us on
Thursday, October 25, 2012. He was
Commander Bennie Manning, a retired
member of the United States Military.
He served both as an aviator and a
paratrooper. A Wake County native, he
is a graduate of Garner Consolidated
High School and St. Augustine’s Col-
lege. He spoke to us about honoring
those who have served their country
as Veterans. He mentioned Mrs. Millie
Dunn Veasey who grew up here at First
Baptist. She was one of the first Afri-
can-American Women from North
Carolina to serve as a Commandress
in the military. Mrs. Veasey is still alive
and is ninety-four years young, still
active with Veterans’ Affairs. Mr. Man-
ning also mentioned our own Mr. Jo-
seph Holt who is also a retired, deco-
rated military person.
Mr. Manning presented certificates
of honor and appreciation to the fol-
lowing men of the Senior Ministry:
Deacons Randolph Bazemore, George
Flemming, Charles Powell, and James
Putney. In absentia, certificates were
given for Mr. Leroy Ming, Mr. Otis
Palmer. Posthumously, a certificate
was given to the widow of Deacon
Ephriam Johnson (Lucy). Mr. Daniel
Brown, a Vietnam War vet also re-
ceived a certificate. It was a time to
celebrate those who have given much
to honor their country.
On October 18, 2012 Mesdames
Marian Greaux and Francine Booth
along with Clennis Noble prepared the
luncheon meal. Thanks ladies for your
preparation and serving. On October
25, 2009, refreshments were brought
by Deacon and Mrs. Carson and Mrs.
Lee Davis.
When you gather with your
family this Thanksgiving and
experience the joy and the
pain ... those who loved you
and those who wounded you
and still do, those who hurt
you and those who healed
you and still do, those who
gave you hope and snuffed
out your dreams and still do,
those who picked you up and
those who let you down and
still do, those who kept prom-
ises and those who broke
promises and still do, those
who make you laugh and
those who make you cry,
those who comfort you and
those who disturb you ...
when you see those human
faces ... joyous, angry, sad,
bitter, broken, happy, hope-
ful, lost ... the young, the
strong, the old, the weak ...

and keeps these words of
Mother Theresa in your heart:
"There is a terrible hunger for
love. We all experience that
in our lives - the pain, the
loneliness. We must have the

your own family. Find them.
Love them."

For this cause, we also since the day
we heard of it, do not cease to pray for
you, and to desire that ye might be
filled with the knowledge of His will in

In an effort to stay informed of the
issues that confront us as citizens of
these United States of America, the
Senior Ministry‘s Program Committee
presented to us, during the month of
October, three (3) speakers. The first
two (2) speakers were knowledgeable
of the voting process and which candi-
dates have been endorsed by the Ra-
leigh-Wake Citizens Association.
On Thursday, October 18, 2012, our
own Deacon Kristi Tally and Council-
man Eugene Weeks addressed the
Senior Ministry at 11:00 AM in the
Ward Chapel. Deacon Tally came
equipped with brochures and pam-
phlets to keep us informed of early
voting locations and their hours of op-
eration. She also spoke of some of the
challenges facing those who work to
see that the processes are carried out
correctly and fairly. Deacon Tally also
urged us as citizens to sometimes at-
tend meetings of the Wake County
