June 2016
Volume 1, Issue 1
A Year in Review
The event started at 7:00pm on
Friday, January 29 and con-
cluded after liturgy on Saturday,
January 30. Life is choices was
the focus of the two days. Fri-
day evening included getting to
know the youth present, bowl-
ing, playing “Let’s make a
Choice”, watching God’s Not
Dead and enjoying a variety of
snacks. Saturday was a busy
day. Many of the youth did not
get any sleep and watched vari-
ous movies during the night.
There were two sessions based
on Decision Point’s Life is
Choices where we were re-
minded that hundreds of
choices are made each day and
that each choice has a conse-
quence, and “to demonstrate
that God’s way and the way of
the world are very different and
invite the candidates to choose
to walk with God”. The sessions
included videos along with
questions for discussions. We
were very privileged to have
Zack Evans of the Ottawa RED-
BLACKS come and speak to us.
He spoke about some of the
major and minor choices he has
made in his life and how those
choices have influenced him.
He brought his Grey Cup ring
from when he won it with the
Saskatchewan Roughriders in
2013. Other activities included
helping fold bulletins for Liturgy,
playing cards and visiting with
the seniors at the Manor, and
attending and assisting with
5:15 liturgy at St. Basil’s. Many
of the youth will say that this
event is the highlight of the
year!

November
This was the first event of the
year. It was a great night for
the youth to get together and
discuss how their summer
went. The night was filled with
making pizzas, visit-
ing, ice breakers and
playing various
games.
watched a video of an inspira-
tional high school football
player and had a Bible Bowl. A
Bible Bowl is just like a game of
football, but in order to move
10 yards, the team needed to
answer a question based about
the Bible.
In honour of the 2015 Grey Cup
taking place just weeks away,
the theme for November was
football. We recited “the ath-
lete’s prayer” to begin our eve-
ning. The youth and leaders did
a few team building games,
prepared some snacks you
would get at a football game,

Theme: Mary and
Halloween. As Octo-
ber is the month for
Mary, our evening started off
with a decade of the rosary.
This led into pumpkin
carving which brought out
the creative side in some
of the youth. The night
continued with the youth
being split into two teams
and playing Catholic Jeop-
ardy. The categories included:
Sacraments, Church building,
Commandments, Mary and
Clergy. They had to put their
thinking caps on. It was fun to
see what they knew such as:
(The “N” in the I.N.R.I. written
on the Christian Cross refers to
this place.) and what they
learned (How many priests are
in the Regina Deanery?)

“ This was my first year
being apart of Ultimate
A & B Youth. I was
always looking forward to
next month’s event.”

December
Our Christmas wind-up was held
at Houston Pizza. The youth were
treated to appetizers, pizza and
dessert. We had a Chinese gift
exchange. The youth brought
some unique gifts.
“ It was a really fun and
good experience. I hope
more youth in aour
church get involved. You
don’t know what it’s like
till you come.”
- Lesya Ochitwa
February was a busy month. On
Friday, February 5th, we held a
Fish Fry event with the assis-
tance of the Knights of Colum-
bus Bishop Budka Council
#5914. The youth loved inter-
acting with the children within
the parishes , along with our
parishioners. We appreciate
everyone that were able to
come out eat some fish and
play a game or two before Lent
began.
Friday, February 26, the youth
gathered with a night filled
about lent. We took part in at-
tending Pre-sanctified Liturgy at
St. Basil’s with Petro reading
the epistle readings. The youth
were asked what Lent means to
them. They were asked to cre-
ate a short commercial about
facts on Lent including what it
means to them. It is in the
works of being premiered at the
beginning of Lent next February.

Love Song Game.” We had to
come up with as many songs as
we could that had the word
‘love’ in them. We spent the
rest of the evening talking
about God’s love and the big
question love poses. It was, ‘
when was a time you chose to
love even though it was diffi-
cult’. There were videos about
teenagers questioning belief
and Judas struggling with his
turmoil. Those videos lead into
talking about the passion and
the bible verse John 3:16. The
night concluded with a 25 min-
ute quiet reflection. Most of the
time we don’t leave time to just
sit in quiet and listen to God.
The reflection gave time to re-
flect on the ‘Big question’ along
with other questions about love
and listening to Ken Yasinski
speak about “The Father’s love”
April
Love, what is it? During the
event in April we discussed
what love is? The event began
with 5 questions: what is love,
does God love and in what
ways, what and who do you
love, is love real, how do you
know and what’s the farthest
you have travelled for some-
thing? The answers were
thoughtful and started the dis-
cussion for the night. We split
into 3 teams and played “The

lieves in him shall not perish but have eternal life” - John 3:16
“ I enjoy being a part of
youth because it has helped
me grow closer to God. It
also gives me the
opportunity to meet people
I can relate too.”

“We are a team striving to
achieve the same faith
goals and having fun while
doing it.”

Ultimate A & B Youth is a joint parish youth program
between St. Athanasius Ukrainian Catholic Parish and
St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Parish (the only Ukrain-
ian Catholic Parishes in Regina).
It is for youth from Grades eight to 12 within both of our
parishes. We encourage the youth to bring friends to the
events to experience our faith and to join in the fun.

Plans:
As of right now, the event
themes have not been finalized.
One exciting plan for our Octo-
ber youth event is that we will
be getting together with Resur-
rection Parish’s Higher youth
group for a joint event. The
youth coordinators and leaders
are hoping that it will be a great
team building event and a gath-
ering to get to know youth in
other parishes within our city.
Dates:
Events are usually held once a
month on the third Friday from
7:00-9:30pm at either parish.
Tentatively the dates for the fall
are: Friday, September 16, Fri-
day, October 21, Friday, Novem-
ber 25 and Friday, December 9.
Please keep an eye out for the
bulletin along with the posters
posted in your parish for more
information.

Our last event of the year was a Barbeque. It was a night just to get
together and reminisce about the youth events from the past year,
roasting some marshmallows and having fun playing a few games.
