Established in 1929 by Reuben Volpe, Volpes is one of the oldest and most respected mail-

order businesses in South Africa. From the start Reuben set a standard which he drummed

into every new employee on their first day at work. It consisted of a single sentence: “I want to

be able to look customers in the eye”. This was his way of saying that trust and honour came

before the bottom line. This has been the Volpes philosophy for 85 years.

Adam Volpe, the third generation of Volpes in the business, puts it as follows: “It’s about building

long-term relationships. It’s the right thing to do and also it makes good business sense. Whenever

I’m not sure what to do, I ask myself the question: What will grow this relationship? It’s all about

being guided by values”.

As we go boldly into the future to bring you the latest in innovation and style, we are ever

mindful of Reuben’s legacy. It’s as if he’s still here, looking over our shoulders and reminding us:
