(Revised April 2003)
I ndian J ournal of P hysiology and
Pharmacology (I J PP ) welcomes or iginalmanuscripts based upon research in
physiological, pharmacological and allied
sciences from any part of the world. An
original article may be published either as
a Full-length research paper or as a Short
communication. Although the Editorial
Board generally solicits review articles,
proposals for review articles are welcome.
Such a proposal should include a synopsis
of the review article, and a list of publications
of the author(s) on the subject of the review
art i cl e. L etters to the Edi tor should
generally address the scientific contents of
arti cles recently publi shed in I J PP. A ll
articles and letters are subjected to editorial
processing which includes review of the
articles by referees and the Editorial Board.
Submit three copies of the manuscript,
typed in double space on one side of the paper
only, to the Editor for Physiology/Pharmacology,depending on the subject of the article, or
to the Executive Editor, I J PP, Department
of Physiology, Al l I ndia Institute of Medical
Sciences, New Delhi 110 029.
I t will facili tate the quality and speed
of publication if the manuscript is also
submitted on a floppy diskette in M S WORD
in addition to the printed copies. However,
the diskette may be submitted only after
the article has been accepted for publication
so that revisions suggested by referees, if
any, can also be incorporated in the floppy
by the authors.

The ti tle page should carry (1) the ti tle
of the article, which should be concise but
informative, (2) a short running head

name, middle initial, and last name of eaauthor, (4) name of department(s) a
institution(s) to which the work should

manuscript, (6) name and address of aut
to whom requests for reprints should
addressed, (7) the source(s) of support
the form of grants, equipment, drugs or
of these, and (8) a statement signed by
authors that the paper has neither bepublished in whole or part earlier (exc
as an abstract) nor is under considerat
elsewhere.

Describe your selection of the
observational or experimental subjects
(patients or experimental animals, including
controls) clearly. I denti fy the methods,
apparat us (manufactur er s name andaddress in parentheses), and procedures in
sufficient detail to allow other workers to
repeat the experiments. I f the procedures
involve an assay, include data on its
accuracy, e.g. specificity, sensitivity and
recovery. Give references to established
methods, including statistical methods.
Provide references and brief descriptions
for methods that have been published
but are not well known. Describe new orsubstantially modified methods, give reasons
for using them and evaluate their limitations.
When reporting experiments on human
subjects, indicate whether the procedures
followed were in accordance with the ethical
standards of the committee on human
experimentation of the institution in which
the experiments were done or in accordance
with the Helsinki Declaration of 1975. When
reporting experiments on animals, indicate
whether the institutions or I ndian National
Science Academys guidelines for the
care and use of laboratory animals were
followed. I denti fy precisely all drugs and
chemicals used, including generic name(s),
dosage(s) and route(s) of administration. Do
not use patients name, initials, or hospital
numbers.
I nclude number of observations and
statistical significance of the finding wh
appropriate. Detailed statistical analys
mathematical derivations, and the like m
sometimes be suitably presented in the fo
of one or more appendices.
