Although it's been hot, the weather for the most part has been great. I hope you each took the time to relax and be with your families. It's September and it’s time for the members of St. Anne’s to mobilize and prepare for an outstanding fall season at our council. The festivities begin on September 10th when we hold our Annual Pig Roast & Clam Bake. Our worthy Chairman, Charlie Vaicels has assured me that we are ready and are expecting a hungry crowd. On September 24th, we will be holding our Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser to benefit brave breast cancer survivors and their supporters at the annual 39 mile Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. John Kolb PGK is the worthy Chairman for this event again this year. He himself recently participated as a walker along with his wife Karen and son Brian at the Boston fundraising event. As always, we need our membership to step up at all these events and I would ask that you reach out to the chairmen and volunteer to help. Tony Gallo SK and Bill Chuber SK will be ready to go soon with our 2017 Calendars. We had a slight delay getting them from the printer. When they arrive please take a handful and help us sell them. These calendars are very important and assist us with our operating expenses here at the council. As we move into October, please mark your calendars. On October 1st we will be running a bus trip to The Mohegan Sun Casino. Our worthy Chairman, Tony Gallo, SK, has informed me that we are already sold out. We will be holding our Annual “Big Mike” Kowalewski Golf Tournament on October 14th. Please see our chairman Mike Morrisey for details. October 23rd we will be holding our Installation of Ocers at St. Anne's. Please come out and support your ocers! As we move into November John Harley has put together another Oldies Dance set for November 12th that will feature the music of the 1970's. He has booked excellent bands to entertain the crowd and the event promises to be a huge success. I ask that we all step up and volunteer to help him sell tickets as well as to set up, break down and stathe event. INSURANCE ARTICLE Raising Awareness About Life Insurance

Each September since 2003 has been designated as Life Insurance Awareness Month. Like most awareness-raising campaigns, Life Insurance Awareness Month was created because there is an overwhelming lack of understanding of life insurance, its uses, its benefits, and its variations among the general public. Each year, the Life Insurance Market Research Association (LIMRA) puts out the results from a recent survey, and unfortunately, the numbers they report continue to be discouraging.

A recent survey found that more than 75 percent of people polled did not have a personal financial advisor, even though 68 percent of them said their opinion of the current economic conditions was somewhat unfavorable or very unfavorable.

In other words , a major i ty of those sur veyed were uncomfortable with the economy and the uncertainty it brings, yet they did not seek professional assistance. Maybe they spoke with their friends and family. Maybe they hoped the instability would go away on its own. Maybe they did not know to whom to turn. If you fall into this category, please remember that as a member of the Knights of Columbus, you have a full-time, professional agent you can call your own. My primary responsibility is the care and service of your family’s life insurance, retirement and long-term care needs. I’ll answer your questions because I want your decisions to be informed ones. I want to help.

Another LIMRA statistic said 43 percent of people did not buy life insurance because they worry about “making the wrong decision.” Talk with me, your agent, and, afterwards, you’ll understand that the only wrong decision was not purchasing sooner to protect your family’s future. To learn more about these products, call me at (718) 317-6932, or email me at [email protected].

FINANCIAL SECRETARY: NOTICE TO MEMBERS Your dues of $40.00 are due to the Council for the year 2016 by July 31st, 2016 at the latest. Many members owe the council for many years of back dues. In order to maintain your status as a paid up member, please keep your dues current and consider this message as your bill or first notice. I will try to send a first notice to all members. Please pay the amount on the invoice. Failure to pay your dues by 7/31/2016 will result in a follow up second notice, “Knight Alert”, and finally the intent to suspend form. Please save us the time and money by paying dues in a timely fashion. Checks should be made payable to St. Anne’s Council and mailed to Bro. Fred Forgione, Financial Secretary, at 87-52 251st Street, Bellerose, NY, 11426. PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH. Honorary Life Members pay no dues. They are members 70 years of age and have 25 years of uninterrupted service. Honorary members are members 65 years of age and have 25 years of consecutive service. They pay due $15.00 per year. Thank you. Fred Forgione, FS 631-449-2212

Here & There Received a phone call from Jerry Mayer PGK on Monday, August 15th, 2016 stating that he is in the hospital in South Carolina. Jerry is suffering from COPD along with other complications. Keep him in your prayers. We spoke to Joe Gunn PGK who is recently out of the hospital after having his right knee replaced. Joe is going to be out of circulation for awhile, so keep him in your prayers also.

While we are talking about “Past Grand Knights”, I spent some time on the phone on Tuesday, August 16th, 2016 with Al Papio PGK. Yeah, that’s right, Al Papio PGK. Al was the Grand Knight of St. Anne’s from 1963 -65. Al’s wife Josephine has some medical problems, but Al says she is OK. Al says he is not playing golf anymore. He feels that if he were to tee the ball up, he would probably hit his foot instead of the ball. Whenever we speak with Al, all he wants know is when you guys are going to visit. Al has two cabins on his property and there is plenty of room. We talked for about a half hour, mostly about St. Anne’s and how the council is doing. He loves reading The Voice, which keeps him up to date as to the happenings. Al still drives, but does not drive at night anymore. We finished our conversation with his best wishes for the council and her continued success. One last item…Al celebrated his 96th birthday on March 22nd of this year. “Tempus Fugit”. Thanks to Bob Nealon PGE for the PGK updates. The Installation of Officers for the 2016-2017 Columbian Year will be held on October 23rd at 3pm. A buffet dinner will be served following the ceremony. Support these gentlemen who dedicate their spare time for the betterment of St. Anne’s.
