Our own March Madness
has quickly come and
gone. Thank you to all of our
members who came out to march
in our AOH parades. On Saint Patrick's Day,
the weather was fine but the bus was a bust,
for the band, as it went to the wrong side of
the park at the end of the parade. Other then
that, it was a fine day.
It was great to see Tara Pipes and
Drums on the bus out to the Hampton Bays
Parade. What a great day to be Irish! The
after parade festivities included a free con-
cert, free corned beef sandwiches and free
beer! Simply fantastic. I hope to see a few
more make the trip next year, although if the
band keeps growing there might not be room
on the bus. Tara continues to grow and gets
better with every event. I am happy to report
we have two new members in the color
guard, Tom McHale and Steve Conwell. You
are most welcome additions. Thank you for
your service.
Congradulations to
our honorees! Dan Roarty and Kim
McGuiness who have joined the ranks of
our illustrious Men and Women of the Year. It
was a great pleasure to honor you both, at
our Annual St. Patrick's Dinner Dance. The
night flew by and I nearly missed out on giv-
ing Tom McGuirk his twenty five year
pin. Thank you all, for your continuous ser-
vice to our order. A special thank you to
Frank Ryan on putting together the commem-
orative journal. It was a resounding suc-
cess. Well Done Frank! As always, thank
you Mary Beggen for the center pieces and
singing the Irish National Anthem, at the end
of the night. You are a tribute to our herit-
age.
This year I made it to the mass be-
fore the Bethpage Parade. What a beautiful
celebration that was. Well Done to Maureen
Scharen, you made be tear up with your ver-
sion of Danny Boy.
It has been a mad, mad month of
March. On the day of the Hampton Bays
Parade I was triple booked. As the Rockville
Center Parade and the Yonkers Parade both
expected my attendance since I am also Long
Island Gaels (LIG) Gaelic Association Minor
Board Chairman as well as a New York GAA
Board Member. Gaelic Football is in full
swing. My son Fionn has been trying out for
the Boys Feile Team. The Feile Team
is the All County Under 14 Gaelic Foot-
ball Team. Practice and tryouts are twice a
week up in the Bronx in Gaelic Park. We are
hopeful he makes the team and gets the trip
to Ireland to represent NY, in Kerry, in Divi-
sion One Gaelic Football at the end of
June. My older boy Eoghan is playing for the
LIG/St Raymonds U16 Team, that I'll be man-
aging with David Kilkenny of AOH NYC Divi-
sion One. We will have one home game at
Nickerson Beach. Come on down to support
us.
Happy Easter! Happy Centennial
Rising! Hope to see all at the Monument Cer-
emony on Easter Monday. The ‘afters’ are at
the Irish American Center in Mineola. Look for
the emails from Ken on all of the events com-
ing in another action packed month. March
Madness and now April Awesomeness! Hope
to see you here and there.
Please keep the sick in your prayers,
especially Pat Brennan as she recovers. We
wish you a speedy recovery.
See you down at the Hall. God Bless You
and Keep You Safe.

March marching season is behind us and I am enjoying the rest and relaxation, if you can call it that. Note to myself: don’t take on a new responsibility at work dur-ing parade season. Going forward the band is still going to be doing parades and shows during April, May and June. We have a little league baseball parade on April 9th. We will be leading a contin-gent of folks from St Patrick’s Cathedral to the Irish Consulate on April 23rd. That gets us to May when we will be doing a couple of events and parades on Memori-al Day weekend. In June, we hope to have our annual golf outing and we will be playing at Irish Night in Brady Park. Preparations are under way for our Piper’s Ball to be held in October or November. Please keep an eye out for more details as they become available. A DRUMMERS' SALUTE TO THE HIGHLAND PIPERS Actually, we hate you! You are a slow-moving, privileged group of quasi-musicians who are constantly tinkering with your various items of hardware - while we wait. You occupy the front ranks and get all the glory while we keep you in time and
constantly advise you of which part of the tune you are on. When the public calls, they call for a pip-er! If a stranger approaches - he comes to a piper. You are always first. Even the haggis needs you - but not us! We are your slaves; at your beck and call. As though all of this isn't enough, when we are ready for your royal command, you further humble us by deciding to re-tune your obnoxiously eccentric instru-ments. What a rotten deal! We drive through rain, fog, ice and snow to come to you. We sacrifice our work, our families, our recre-ations, our money, and sometimes even
our food and drink to guide you through the unknown. And yet we come to you; you draw us like the Pied Piper of Hamelin drew his rats. Although we hate you, we are faith-ful; we return year after year to be at your backs, because we know that if you did not give us those beautiful and stir-ring melodies, we would not play at all! God bless you! I guess we love you!

No Talent night is coming on April 1st.
We have decided to move it back to Fri-
day evenings. Please see Frank Ryan to
sign up an act or two. The only creden-
tials you will need is a sheer disregard for
talent.
On April 9th the hall will be holding a
fundraiser for Juvenile Diabetes—there
will be live music. There will be a cash
bar. Donation at the door of $10 is all we
are asking.
The division will be hosting a traditional
Irish Breakfast on the morning of April
24th to honor those that were instrumental
in the Rising 100 years ago this day. Cost
per person is $15.

Last month I gave you a quiz about Irish Lighthouses. The answers to the quiz are the following: 1 - What is the name of the oldest lighthouse in Ireland, where is it located and in what year was it constructed? Answer: HOOK HEAD – located in Wexford and construct-ed in 1172 2 - Match the lighthouse with the County in which it is lo-cated:

And now for the Spiritual reflection for the month of April.
A few years ago, former President Nugent asked me to remind the members that when the name of Jesus is spo-ken while we are praying the Hail Mary, each of us, out of prayerful respect for HIS name, should bow our head
The second reading from Paul’s letter to the Philippians that was read on Palm Sunday contained the following verse:
“...that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, “ ...

An Bhfuil Fhios Agat 1916 was a Year of Rebellion & Change:
The seven signatories of the Irish proclamation were: Pádraig H. Pearse, James Connolly, Thomas J, Clark, Thomas MacDonagh, Sean
MacDiarmada, Joseph Plunkett & Eamonn Ceannt.
The events of Easter 1916 are of seminal importance in Irish history. What began as a small uprising in the center of Dublin on that Easter
Monday set in motion a series of developments that ultimately led to Irish Independence. Organized by these seven members of the Irish Republican
Brotherhood, the Rising began on Easter Monday, 24 April 1916, and lasted for six days.
Members of the Irish Volunteers, led by Pádraig Peases, joined by the smaller Irish Citizen Army of James Connolly, along with 200 mem-
bers of Cumann na mBan (a women’s group), seized key locations in Dublin and proclaimed an Irish Republic. The rebel headquarters was the Gen-
eral Post Office (GPO) where James Connolly, overall military commander, and Pádraig Pearse, Tom Clarke, Seán Mac Dermott and Joseph Plun-
kett. After occupying the Post Office, they hoisted two Republican flags and Pearse read a Proclamation of the Republic..
Roger Casement supplied German military aid for the 1916 Easter Rising by negotiating deals for German rifles and arranged shipment to
Banna Strand, Co Kerry but was he was quickly captured & hanged.
Elsewhere, rebel forces took up positions at the Four Courts, the centre of the Irish legal establishment, at Jacob's Biscuit Factory, Boland's
Mill, the South Dublin Union Hospital complex and the adjoining Distillery at Marrowbone Lane. Another contingent, under Michal Mallin, dug in at St.
Stephen's Green.
There were other isolated actions in other parts of
Ireland, with an attack at Ashbourne, Co. Meath, army barracks
at Galway and at Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford.
On Saturday 29 April, Pádraig Pearse issued an order for all
companies to surrender.
Pádraig Pearse was executed on May 3, 1916, aged 36.
Thomas MacDonagh was executed on May 3, 1916, aged 38.
Joseph Plunkett was executed on May 04 1916, aged 28.
Eamonn Ceannt was executed on May 08, 1916, aged 34.
James Connolly was executed on May 12, 1916, aged 47
Sean Mac Diarmada was executed on May 12, 1916, aged 33.
Thomas J Clarke was executed on May 13, 1916, aged 59.
Roughly 500 people were killed in the Easter Rising. About 54% were civilians, 26% were British military and 4% were RIC.police, and 16% were Irish
rebels. More than 2,600 were wounded.

Annual Dues 2016
CONGRATULATIONS, CONDOLENCES & PRAYERS
I hope you all had a very Happy Easter with your family!
The St. Patrick's season has come to an end Thank you
to all of the sisters who marched for our Division this sea-
son and thank you to Joanne Krantz, Maureen Greene
and all of the volunteers who made the sandwiches as
well as all of our Soda Bread and Scones bakers!
It is important when we reflect on the 1916 Easter rebel-
lion that we remember the brave Irish women who fought
just as hard as their male counterparts for Ireland's free-
dom. More than 200 women were said to have taken part
in the Rising; doctors and nurses doubled as daring dis-
patch riders, prepared food for the Irish Volunteers and
fought side by side with the men. They formed their own
Irish republican paramilitary organization called Cumann
na mBan. After the Rising, these women played a key
role in immortalizing the leaders of 1916 to keep the
cause alive.
Yours in Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity,
Joanne
