Lee Fortier takes advantage of atelescope placed outside theMesa Lab.

At the Foothills Lab, David Elmore (HAO) installed a video camera atop theroof of Building 2 and connected it to a monitor within HAO for indoor view-ing. This is only the first of two eclipses for the division this year. HAO's GregCard is now refurbishing a white-light coronal camera that was built in the1960s, used on several eclipse expeditions, and most recently displayed in theMesa Lab's mezzanine. It will be used when Greg and several other HAO stafftravel to Putre, Chile, to document a total eclipse on 3 November. * BH

The improvisational approach to eclipse viewing: create a patchwork of tiny holes bycrossing the fingers of your hand, then let the sun pass through to project mini-eclipsesin the resulting shadow.
