PRACTICAL PERFORMANCE AS LEADERActivity I will act as a leader in: BadmintonUNDERSTANDING THE CRITERIA
You Must understand your leadership role and be able to take it on effectively in your chosen sport or activity. This may involve, for example, acting as a leader or leader’s assistant in planning and running training/ practice sessions for younger members of your club.
You need to be able to evaluate the performance of others and give feedback on their strengths and the areas they need top develop. You need to offer support and encouragement as necessary.
You need to make sure that the principles of fair play are always applied in any playing or practice sessions.
You must show your leadership skills whilst taking responsibility for preparing individuals/ small groups or a team for competitive situation/ performance. This means being confident and organised and being able to communicate well.
You need to be aware of any health and safety issues that may affect the performers.
You need to keep a log of all the activities in which you act as a leader, as evidence. Each one must be signed by a responsible adult, such as your club coach. Your teacher should be present when you act as a leader for your assessment, and mark your performance. You must provide a suitable video of your performance if your teacher is unable to be present.
You will normally be expected to have a log which shows you have acted as a leader for a minimum of 12 sessions.
You can check the mark scheme your teacher will assess you against; you can find this on page 14 on the download at www.edexcel.com/quals/gcse09/pe/Pages/default.aspx
