DEBATE IN CLASS 9 ON RELEVANCE OF IDEALS OF MAHATMA GANDHI FOUND IN THE CONSTITUTION

On 21st January 2020, students of class 9C debated on the topic ‘Relevance of Ideals of Mahatma Gandhi found in the Constitution’.

This topic is affiliated with not only the image of the Father of our Nation in the minds of today’s youth, but also the values that were the inspiration of the very foundation of India’s Constitution.

The debate began with an opening speech that discussed the role of Gandhi and his beliefs played in shaping the Constitution. The group that was FOR this topic, argued that though Gandhiji is no longer with us, his ideals remain rooted in the minds of our citizens and must be valued and followed even today. However, the group that was AGAINST this topic argued that even after Gandhi’s death, wars and violence still prevail and only suffering has befallen those who have tried to put an end to the violence using peaceful means.

Both sides had unique and refreshing perspectives and the students debated skillfully and with poise

Gandhi once said, "be the change you wish to see in the world."

The audience, in the end, voted, that yes, Gandhi had a big impact on our Constitution. Till today, the ideals of the Father of the Nation that are found in our Constitution are very relevant even today. Overall, it was a very successful activity.

On 23rd January 2020, Vidya Vikas Academy celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by conducting an Inter-faith Prayer Service that was attended by 120 students of class 9.

Gandhiji was a man who stood strongly against non-violence and worked to promote peace. He once said "In a gentle way, you can shake the world." Hence it is our responsibility to follow in the footsteps of this great man.

The students of our school conducted an inter-faith prayer service in which students from different religions prayed for world peace and harmony in different languages.

This inter-faith prayer included a Christian prayer in English, a Hindu prayer in Hindi and Bengali, a Muslim prayer in Arabic and a Sikh prayer in Punjabi.

This was a reminder to all students that in this diverse country with different traditions, languages, cultures and religions, we live in harmony.

As Gandhiji said " Prayer is the key in the morning and bolt of the evening". Thus, this all faith prayer service was the perfect way to put his words in action.

WORLD CANCER DAY

World Cancer Day is an initiative taken under which the entire world unites together in the fight against the global cancer epidemic. It is observed every year on 4th February to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment. The 2019-2021 campaign theme is ‘I Am and I Will’. The theme seeks to counter the negative attitude and fatalistic belief that nothing can be done about cancer, and instead promotes how our personal actions can be powerful and impactful.

To create awareness about cancer, the students of Senior Secondary Section, Class 11 conducted a special assembly on 4th February 2020. The special assembly began with a speech on the significance of the day followed by a beautiful quote, ‘Cancer is not a death sentence, but rather it is a life sentence; it pushes one to live’. The assembly was concluded with the screening of a documentary video which highlighted that everyone can work together to improve cancer control and achieve global targets to reduce premature mortality from cancer.
