The NC native is a wearer of many hats or shall I say

with friend, Tommy Rogers, on the fashion/music label

Jacob Rogers. These are only a couple of his creative

endeavors. He tells VIVRE magazine, “I want to do every

single thing that pops into my head, all the time.”

Troth is currently working on a mixtape entitled Daydream

Big. “It’s basically 25 short songs about the things I wish

I had/owned/could do/could see,” he says, “I’m super

excited about it because it’s very, very diverse.”

“I’m not really sure whether my love of re-useable materials sparked from my pas-

sion for the environment or from my lack of funding. Either way, I have invented

many ways to decorate my home using simple recycled glass, paper, branches,

and just about anything.”

As we all know, Savannah has taken its sweet time coming around to the “green” concept, and until we all have obtained our mas-sive black and yellow bins of salvation we may only be able to do our small parts. My ideas are simple, but when combined with the art school genius, I have no doubt could become wonderful ambience enhancers in ones home, dorm room, or apartment. I, myself, have an unusual abundance of old glass salsa containers in my house. I also haveanaffinityforpastasauce,whichconve-niently enough also comes in a glass container. These two items have yielded themselves to not only stomach satisfying substances, but also as the new homes for my bathroom hygiene products. After you pack down an ever so scrumptious plate of nachos, or partake in a mouthwatering plate of penne vodka, clean and rinse out the glassware. Next, peel off the labels, making sure to scrape off any of the impossibly strong glue left behind. Dry the containers out andfillthemwithanythingyoumayleaveonyour sink counter, bathroom shelf, or items you maykeepinyourmedicinecabinet.Ihavefilledmy containers with Q-tips, Band Aids, Cotton Balls, and Make-up sponges. Now, I prefer to

live on the edge, and seek artistic excitement in my recycling endeavors. A plain glass container filledwithQ-tipsjustwon’tdo!Irecommendfillingthebottomsofthecontainerswithfoundstones, sea glass, dried black beans or coffee beans to kick it up an aesthetic pleasing notch. Also, tying a ribbon around the rim of the container spices up the look, and gives it that “ladies”touch!Thoughsmallandsimple,thisrecycling is not only good for the environment, butitisnicetoyourwalletaswell!Sowhetheryoufindyourselfinafinancialbind,oryoujustlove to re-use pasta containers, remember that your home will not only look funky and unique with your recycled projects, it will also be eco-friendly.

A brilliant blue earth illuminated the back-ground, while a cavalcade of wild stuffed animals stood at the runway’s entrance, taking their place in Alexander McQueen’s organic, natural theme. Alexander McQueen, once dubbed fashion’s “enfant terrible”, debuted a thoughtful spring 2009 ready-to-wear collection. Mc-Queen cited Darwin’s theory of evolution and the effects of the pre-industrial and post-industrial periods on the world as inspirations.

The pieces played up this springs must haves. Soft fabrics and soft lines colored in vivid shades of palace blue and canary yellow. These were the stand out colors of the collection and can easily be considered the stand out colors of the season. The pre-industrial color palette stuck to fresh earth tones. Ocean blues, sunny yellows, rich wood browns and ripe greens covered the garments. Prints, another hot spring trend, were seen throughout McQueen’s work. A delightful print reminiscent to the pattern in wood bark gave a touch of strength and masculinity to otherwise dainty dresses, jackets and pants and a bug splattered, corseted dress turned heads as it glided down the runway.

This season, a clean and classy pant suit is an absolute must have. It’s out with the simple spring dress. Mc-Queen’s pant suit was by far the boldest to debut on any spring runway. A kaleidoscope of colors wrapped around

the entire suit. Tints and tones of blues with hints of or-ange, cream and white create a dizzying pattern across thejacketandpants.Thejacketfittedatthewaistandflaredoutatthehipsimitatinganexoticbirdasitdisplaysitsmagnificentplumage.Skinnyleggedpants,similartoleggings,fittingsnugglytothebody,perfectlycompliment and complete this delicious spring suit.

The latter portion of the show echoed the world’s tone after the introduction of machine, mass production, and mass materialism. Various body suits and dresses drowning in diamonds, the lines on each piece sharp and unwavering, were in complete opposition to the milky,fluidlinesofthepreviouspieces.Thefabriclaidstiff and the colors, menacing black and misty grays. These pieces were patterned as well. Jacket and skirt sets covered in what looked like radio frequency waves, in addition to dresses and trenches, McQueen covered them in eerie skeleton patterns. Dresses and suits of leather mixed with black lace completed the collection.

Alexander McQueen’s spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear collec-tion was considered by many thought-provoking as well as commercially viable. There were many pieces that presented themselves, trendy, yet timelessly chic. Mc-Queen’s line is an easy go to guide, for any fashionista, of what’s hot for spring.

There are few things people like better than sweets and gold, and at the Savannah Bee Company’s Honey House on 104 W Broughton Street the two are found together in the form of one of Nature’s sweetest treats. This unique store is home to different types of honey and a plethora of other natural products from body creams to candles which feature the byproducts of the honeybee.

Along with serving up a delicious honey latte and some of the friendliest customer service inSavannahyou’llfindwhatappearstobeagi-gantic bee hive and educational, yet still intrigu-ing, video about the honeybee. After spending only a few minutes in this honey haven it’s clear this is more than just a store, the people who work here are passionate about educating the publiconthebenefitsofhoneyandimportanceof the honeybee.

For example, did you know that can-dles made of beeswax burn clean, releasing

positive ions which are proven mood enhancers? What more could you ask from a candle than to brighten your room and spirits? Or that honey featuresnoartificialcolor,preservatives,orfra-grance and will never ever go bad, making it a welcome addition to any kitchen.

The atmosphere of the Savannah Bee Company Honey House is as exciting and busy as one would imagine an actual beehive to be, so be sure and check out what all the buzz is about in this delicious new addition to downtown Savannah.

See Jane is a chic cosmetic boutique that opened October 1st 2008. Owner, Shelly Smith ob-tained a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Historic Preservation from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2006. Her employees like to tease her that she went from “preserving architec-ture to preserving skin.” See Jane, a reference to the Dick and Jane children’s book series, refers to “every woman and every girl of all age groups”.Insidethestoreyouwillfindanarrayof exclusive organic products for men, women, and children including skin care, hair care, bath and body, cosmetics and home accents. See Jane even carries products for our canine friends such as Fur by J. Michael. “Everything you need”, states Shelly. When asked why She chose to open an organic boutique she stated that it was based on her own personal search for organic product that would not irritate her skin. She wanted

“high quality, serious skin care that was also or-ganic.” Organic skin care used to be very limited Shelly says “now you can use organic products and maintain sophistication.“ See Jane also offers a variety of other services including brow thread-ing (a new trend in brow shaping and grooming that offers the client less pain and irritation of the skin), make-up applications, and make-up lessons as well as many different special events. “Brow Bar Happy Hour” will be one of the many See Jane events available for you to attend. During the winter break I began an internship that will continue through summer. I will be designing and mak-ing a line of recycled clothing for a company called Libby Story. The inspiration for the line is based on Super Lucky Cat, Urban Renewal, Free People, and Anthropol-ogy. To create my collection I use all of the leftover clothing that didn’t generate sales. I then reconstruct or add details to them to make the garment more appeal-ing to consumers. Going into this internship I was very excited and anxious. I started by designing based the clothes that were made available to me for use in the recycled line. My boss loved my ideas but pointed out to me the different aspects of my ideas that would and would not work for her clientele. Through this experience I learned so much about what types of silhouettes work on dif-ferent people and how to make your designs work for a mainstream group of clients. Even though the style of Super Lucky Cat and Free People are not close to my

personal style, having to learn to design a particular style for my boss helped me to evolve my perspec-tive on fashion and opened up a different way for me to design. Learning how to take someone else’s point of view of fashion and make a garment that works for them while also adding my own personal style and tastes to the garment, was one of the most valuable I will take with me in my career. It was great to have a chance to experience this sort of work beforehand. I have learned and grown so muchfromthefirstmonthofworkandcan’twaittocontinue in the summer. I have never had so much fun and I am very excited about the end results of the products I have created
