• Dr. Daftuar, P.G. IIT Kharagpur and D.Litt. is an internationally known specialist in the

areas of Psychometric Testing, Competency Mapping, Assessment Center, Sensitivity

Training, Spiritual Intelligence in Management, OD, HRD, Organizational Behavior,

Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Change Management, Ergonomics & Social

Psychology.

• He is basically an OB, OD & HRD professional by education and training. A product of

the Patna University (MA), India, and I.I.T. Kharagpur, India, where he obtained his

Honors Degrees at both graduate and postgraduate levels and his D.I.I.T Diploma (IIT.,

Kharagpur). Dr. Daftuar is the only D. Litt. in OB in India. Currently he is taking interest

in school psychology as a social responsibility.

• He has 40+ years of Consulting, training, teaching & research experiences.

• He was selected a National Associate of the University Grant Commission (UGC) at anearly age of 28 years.

• Prof. Daftuar has published 3 books, 6 course material for P-G Diploma coursesincluding one for the ISTD diploma course and over 100 research based articles inIndian and International academic Journals & Management Magazines.

• He has guided over a dozen PhDs. and post-doctoral students as also severalprestigious Research, Training and Consultancy projects. He has also constructed andpublished about two dozen behavioral and psychological tests and HRD/training tools.

• Besides being a consultant trainer to several organizations (The list runs like Who’s-Who of the Global 100, Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies. He has participated innumerous International and National seminars and conferences and had the honor ofpresiding over many of them.

• Prof. Daftuar has edited research journals like, Behaviorometric, ASHRAM NewsLetter and has been associated with several other journals as advisor or consultingeditor. He is the founder Chairman of the Association of Stress Research andManagement (ASHRAM) and The Council of Behavioral Research.

• He was also the Western Regional Chairman of the Indian Association of theApplied Psychology.

• His areas of current interest of research and intervention span a wide variety ofsubjects with special focus on Emotional Intelligence, Spirituality in managementand Psychology, Stress and Trauma, Psychometric profiling, Competency Mappingfor selection and recruitment, T-Groups for Change Management, etc.

• After leaving the M. S. University of Baroda as Professor and the HOD ofPsychology in 2002, he is engaged full time in management consulting..

Dr. Daftuar is also a subject-matter expert on Change Management where he has workedwith reputed companies, helping them increase people engagement and meetorganizational objectives through effective changes in the system and people interaction.

In this context, Dr. Daftuar can claim an unique distinction of conducting about 45 groupsof Sensitivity Training (T-Groups / PGL) in one company single-handed in a time span ofabout two and half years and again for a full one year.

This kind of unique experience (i.e. 45 groups in one company and single handed) isunique at the global level as well.

To the best of our knowledge no one in the world let alone in India can claim thisdistinction. Apart from this, his method (developed by him) is also unique. He puts in lotof spirituality in the program including meditation techniques. This method achievedspectacular results. Some of the groups formed in this series of programs are stillfunctioning in the company after 20 years ( Schaffler India, Vadodara, a German MNC ).

Above that, he specializes in in-house sensitivity training.

Another highlight of his method is that he does not leave any issue raised in the programby the participants unresolved.

Dr. Daftuar has managed to handle large scale assignments on Competency Mapping andAssessment centers. Some of these assignments were as large as to cover 500 to 1000senior and top management employees to the junior level employees. He is assisted by abig team of his associate consultants.

Jindal Steel and Power Ltd., Tata Motors are two such giant among other companieswhere Salahkaar Consultants have conducted Assessment Centers spread all over Indiaunder the leadership of Dr. Daftuar.

1. Was the first person to opt for Educational Psychology at MA level when PatnaUniversity started teaching the subject in 1961. Later shifted to I/O Psychology and IRin 1963 when joined IIT, Kharagpur (Kgp) for a P-G Diploma in I/O Psychology and IR(1963-64).

2. While in MA, he did the first work on what was later known as Experimental SocialPsychology in India. His work was “Effect of Prestige Suggestions on Decision Process”.This work was done under the guidance of Professor S.M. Mohasin

3. While at IIT(Kgp) for his Ph.D. wrote a research article “A study of task- structure andcentrality in a management decision making game (1967). Indian Journal of AppliedPsychology, 5(1), 11-19. It was the first ever work in India on this topic and wasperhaps the first work on Experimental OB/Social Psychology in India using businessgames. To the best of our knowledge the type of this work has not been replicated inthis country till the day.

4. While in IIT (Kgp) he got interested in ergonomics and he first time conducted aresearch on what is now known as Architectural Psychology (1963-64).

5. His first publication was in an American journal called ‘Engineering Psychology’. Hisarticle, “Application of Carburiser’s ‘Human Scale’ to the layout of workspace fortypewriting job” (1966). Journal of Engineering Psychology (USA) was the precursorof Architectural Psychology (world-wide).

6. He also wrote an article expounding the concept of Architectural Psychology and IIT(Kgp) designed its first course on Architectural Psychology for their B.Arch. Studentsas confirmed by Late Dr. A. Chatterjee (A professor of IIT, Kgp.). The paper was:“Some psychological problems for building designers: A human engineering point ofview (1971)”. Indian Journal of psychology, 46(1), 163-171.

7. The long series of ergonomic studies by Dr. Daftuar brought him internationalrecognition in terms of an Invitation by Prof. Alphonse Chapanis one of the foundingfathers of the modern Ergonomics to participate in the first ever internationalsymposium on Cross Cultural Human Factors Engineering at Tilburg (1971),Netherlands, sponsored by the NATO .

8. His symposium paper, was again the first on the theme of cross cultural Ergonomics inIndia and as (named) published entitled :“The role of human factors engineering inunder-developed countries, with special reference to India”, in A Chapanis (Ed.) EthnicVariables in Human Factors Engineering. The John Hopkins University Press, 91-113. Hewas the only invitee from India and one of the three invitees from Asia (two fromJapan).

9. By mid 1070s Dr. Daftuar had attained the status of a third world expert inErgonomics.

10. In the pre-independence India, Air-Force did some studies on the alphanumericcharacters for the Royal Air Force to designing altimeter for Royal Air Force fighters.After that (a long gap) Dr. Daftuar broke the lull in 1981 when he published hisresearch entitled “Legibility of types faces” (1981, Journal of PsychologicalResearches, 25(2), 108-110). USA.

11. Another big credit of doing FIRST goes to Dr. Daftuar for starting a NEW, the firstever, full fledged PG Diploma course of HRD in the Indian university system in 1983under the department of Psychology of the M. S. University of Baroda. And thatcreated a history.

12. Dr. Daftuar has been the only Psychologist in India to receive the coveted TimesResearch Foundation Award in 1985.

13. Created and produced the first Indian research based psychometric test to measurehuman personality with a new concept called Enneagram (a Sufi concept). 1999. Todate this remain the only test of the Indian origin.

14.Created the first test of Spiritual Intelligence-SI (now in the third version) and validatedit on Indian Managers, house wives and students (2001). To the best of our knowledgeit is claimed to be the first test of SI in the world. The third version is named as SQit™

15.Created the first Indian test of Emotional Intelligence (now in forth version) andvalidated on Indian Managers (2001). The third version is called EQit™. The originalversion was based on Bar-On model.
