The permanent exhibition shows the city of Tokyo, from the reconstruction of the Imperial capital following the Great Kanto Earth- quake, through the postwar reconstruction after the Great Tokyo Air Raid, right up until the 2000s. It first opened its doors on March 28, 1993, as a museum for looking back on the history and culture of Edo-Tokyo and thinking about the future of Tokyo. In a unique build- ing modeled on a raised-floor-style storehouse, the permanent exhibi- tion shows 400 years of history and life culture, from the Edo period to the present day, using replicas and variety of authentic items. ●The common-people culture of "Edo" The entertainment districts bustled with street performers and frequent theater performances, making Edo a center for fashion and culture. This was supported by the common people and developed into the sophisticated culture of Edo. In Front of the Nakamura-za Theater ●What is "Edo"? Honmaru and Ninomaru Palaces in Edo Castle in the Last Years of the Tokugawa Shogunate/model "Love Edo-Tokyo, Consider Tokyo's Future" is the motto behind the programs that members carry out on their own initiative.
