SEPTEMBER 8, 2021 A brand new virtual Small Group has just started for kids on Sunday mornings at 8:45am on Zoom. When Cathy and Jeff Carver’s adult Small Group recently chose to return to virtual meetings, they saw a need for the same option for kids. “We thought that we might not be the only ones with kids who were choosing to stay virtual [or go back to a virtual option] at this time and saw a need for those kids to stay connected to the church too.” The Carvers met with Andy Wilbanks, Minister to Families, to develop a plan for a virtual Small Group for kids in grades 1-6. During the initial shutdown of COVID-19, virtually attending worship and Small Groups were the only options. “Now that many of our ministries and activities are back on campus, we understand we still have some families that are taking things more cautiously,” Andy says. Several adult Small Groups are still meeting virtually or doing a hybrid class meeting on campus, with some members joining through Zoom. The virtual Small Group for kids will help families in a lot of ways. They may need to be more cautious during this time due to health issues, might be in quarantine, or simply traveling. This group will help them stay up to date with the content and learning taking place in the on-campus groups. The Carver’s will be leading from the Gospel Project to mirror the curriculum of on-campus classes to enable the kids to rejoin their in-person groups when returning to campus. “In our own adult Small Group, we have seen the value in staying connected to our Hunter Street family during these times. By staying connected, we have seen our Small Group members care for each other and know how to pray for each other. We wanted to provide a similar opportunity for the children of families that have also chosen to stay virtual until they are more comfortable returning in-person,” Cathy Carver says.
