UMMSM Grading System• Numeric scores are given for most MS-1 through MS-3
courses. This numeric score and either Pass or Fail appears on transcripts.
• Most fourth year courses are graded Pass/Fail, without numeric scores
• Some components of the medical curriculum use a competency-based approach to learning and evaluation. – Student progress is measured by completion of a series of
assigned tasks related to the competencies and outcomes required of our graduates. Competency-based activities are graded Pass (P) or Fail (F).
– Students will receive a passing grade once they have demonstrated mastery of the required competency.
