Fire Alarm Monitoring

Fire Alarm MonitoringAs a general statement: any alarm communication method that is unsupervised against failure is not approved for fire alarm monitoring.

You need to monitor your Fire Alarm Panel if

Group A (Assembly) seating for more than 300 peopleAny Group B occupancy ( prisons, care facilities)Any Group F1 (Industrial, High Hazard)Any High Building greater than 6 floors (18 metres or higher)If it has a sprinkler system

Fire Alarm MonitoringIn 2007, the Ontario Fire Code made a number of changes with respect to Fire Alarm Systems Monitoring under Sections 9.2,9.4 ,9.6. & 6.3.5. The OFC now stipulates that all monitoring systems design must comply with the 2004 ULC standard CAN/ULC S-561-03/2

Monitoring panels must be ULC Listed and the services are provided by a certified ULC installer and service provider.

How can you tell if you ULC Listed?

An annual ULC certificate can be provided if the system is ULC Listed.
