VILLAGE NEWS AND VIEWS

PRESIDENT’S

CORNER

Hi ladies

As I sit here next to a blazing fire in the north woods all I can

think of is the old saying, "life is good". We are truly blessed to

have such wonderful friends and beautiful art in our lives. Life

always gives us troubles, but it sure is important to stop and smell

the woods and campfires and realize how truly fortunate we are.

Happy art,

Linda

al of you and the concern shown by many of you.

Your friendship is a treasure to me.

Hi Ladies! I wanted to let you know that there are a few places where you can see some of the pictures from the

year on the website. Under the Fall Retreat tab, there is a link to view the 2012 Fall Retreat. A link may pop up

that says you have to get permission from me to view the photos on Google, which I will accept, and then you can

see them. Under the Christmas Party tab, at the bottom of the page...there is a link to view the 2013 Christmas par-

ty pictures. Under the Pictures tab, there are some community service pictures and such. There is also a link to

Picturetrail, where I have put some of the pictures from the Spring Fling paint in, and also the Christmas party,

again. You can also view the pictures from the meetings, and such, in the Newsletters! If there are any pictures in

particular you want to see on the web, just let me know! Thank you! Sheri

and shopping the Boutique 1 p.m. sharp- Lunch

Raffle, Live and Silent Auction to follow

The Spring Fling Committee is excited to present our bi-annual FUNDRAISER. The size of the event will be

dictated by the involvement of all of our members. It is an awesome event and is great fun! You won’t want

to miss it! The luncheon fee of $22 will entitle you to lunch, a chance at the table centerpiece, a table favor

and one chance for the basket raffle. Additional basket raffle tickets will be sold in the following manner: 11

tickets for $10.

Luncheon Chairperson - Karen Capshaw [email protected] or call 734-397-2543. Contact for infor-

mation.

Basket Chairperson - Paula Atkinson [email protected] You can set the theme for your basket. The

only requirement is that there be at least one painted item in the basket and that all items be new or unused

and look new. The unwrapped baskets will be due at the general meeting directly prior to the luncheon, unless

specific arrangements are made with Paula. The Committee will inventory, wrap and give them a bow.

Please provide a typed list of the items in your basket by email to assist in the preparation of the inventory.

The items don’t have to be expensive... Just use your imagination and your painting talents. For that matter,

you don’t have to use a basket … just some sort of a container to hold all your wonderful “stuff.” Maybe the

container will be your painted item.

Basket Ideas:

$35 or more. Please advise Pat of the name and size of your donation. You may bring the painted item to

her at a general meeting. Contact her to see when it is best for her to receive it. The latest time would be at

set up the day before or day of the luncheon.

Table Chairperson - Loretta Huebler [email protected] We encourage you to paint extra fa-

vors to sell in the boutique. Each hostess will choose the theme for their table. We will also maintain a

waiting list for guests who would be able to come at the last minute. The tickets will be passed out at the

February 2015 General meeting. Your guest names will be due by March 5 so that the name tags can be

prepared. Please email the names of your guests to Loretta by March (or before). A check made payable

to the Village Painters for the guests at your table will be due at or before the April General Meeting.

The largest round tables that will seat 12 – 13 ladies are approximately 72” wide. The oval tables can

seat 12 but 11 is better (never 13) and are 72” long x 60” wide. A white fabric tablecloth and napkins

will be on each table. We have new napkin colors to choose from: White, Cream, yellow, gold, brown,

dusty rose, lavender, purple, light blue, medium blue, navy, blue/green, grayed/green, grass yellow green,

burgundy, red, fuchsia pink, pink, burnt orange, orange, melon, gray and black. The napkins will be

brought to the February meeting so that you can advise which color you wish. Over-lay colored table

cloths look wonderful on the tables if you would like to bring your own.

1. It will be a sit-down, served lunch.

2. As a hostess, the minimum requirement is that you must have a painted centerpiece which will be

raffled off at the end of the luncheon for the guests at your table and provide a favor to each of the

guests at your table. The favor can be a purchased item or something hand-painted. You can cre-

ate any design and get as detailed or elaborate as you wish. It is an awesome sight to see each dif-

ferent table. Let your creative juices go!

3. Being a hostess for your table entitles you to a free ticket…a savings of $22.

4. Each hostess for a table will be in charge of her remaining tickets. The hostess can invite anyone

she wishes. If you do not fill your table, overflow guests or Village members will be added.

Please be sure to call Loretta to keep her advised of the needs of your guests.

5. Each guest will receive a ticket for the luncheon and one for the basket raffle. Obviously they will

have more chances to win by purchasing additional Basket Raffle tickets which will be sold be-

fore the luncheon begins. Basket Raffle tickets will be sold for $10 with 11 ticket stubs. Let your

guests know that they can pay in cash or check made out to The Village Painters.

ent tables. They will be sold outright. Please contact them if you would be willing to have a paint-in for a

Education – Diane Stiller

We had a great time at the Lydia Steeves seminar! We learned her fur painting

technique alternating short brush strokes placed in the direction of the fur growth

with glazes in between. We raffled off two original pieces of art work by Lydia

Steeves. Connie Vasilnek won the cat done in colored pencils. Kathy Riddle

won the squirrel done in acrylics. The two day seminar was attended by 44 peo-

ple; 11 of them non members.

We will be ending our year with Leslie Williams’ Beary Christmas on October 11. If you are registering for this

class, you can purchase the ornament shaped surface from Leslie for $4.50. If you are paying by check for the

surface, then please make the check payable to Leslie Williams. We still have some surfaces and will bring

them to the October meeting. Please remember to order your Saturday Subway lunch from Joan Mueller for this

seminar.

A big thank you to Nancy Silver, Debra Houts, Linda Christopher, and Sheri Redd for submitting applications to

teach in 2015. A popular vote was taken at the August meeting and the following projects were selected:

Jamie Mills-Price - Santa and Friends (Dark background with profile of Santa carrying a branch with bird and bear on it)

- Trick or Treat (Ghost with candles, owl, and pumpkin wearing masks)

Judy Ribitch – Lighthouse

Debra Houts – Snowman: All Heaven and Nature Sing by Lynne Andrews

- Garden Wall by Ros Stallcup

Nancy Silver – Autumn Flowers

Sheri Redd – Owl

We are in the process of securing dates from the Livonia Senior Center and will receive confirmation by the end

of September. Nancy, Debra, and Sheri are busy painting their projects for dis-

play at the October meeting. I also hope to add Deborah Bonnewell (oil) and Pat

Hull (colored pencil) to our schedule. I will bring their projects to the October

meeting. Once I have photos of the projects, I will have the 2015 Education board

ready for display at the Christmas dinner.

Learn to Paint!

Our next class is on Sunday, October 12, instructed by Rondi Bur. It is a fall harvest on a mason jar. This is

a really cute project. The jar can be used as a vase for real or artificial flowers, a place to store kitchen uten-

sils, or a little votive candle can be placed on the lid. Please make every effort to encourage people to regis-

ter for this class. We are celebrating Decorative Painting during October so this would be the perfect way to

show your support! The deadline to register is being extended to October 2 which is our general meeting.

Another big thank you to Sandy Tyo, Linda Christopher, and Sheri Redd for submitting applications to teach

in 2015. A popular vote was taken at the August meeting and the following projects were selected:

Sandy Tyo - Pumpkin papier mache surface

Sheri Redd - Dandelion and Blue Butterflly

Linda Christopher – Geranium on a t-shirt
