Respect Life Weekend—October 3 & 4

The Director of the Little Canada Women’s Life Care Center will be speaking at all the Masses this weekend, and will share information about the resource and services provided by WLCC. St Odilia has been a vital pro-vider of baby clothes, diapers and supplies for pregnancy help centers like Birthright and Women Life Care Cen-ters. Items are collated in the crib at the rear of church under our stained glass art, Choose Life.

Walking With Moms in Need Pregnant and parenting moms in need are in our parishes and our neighborhoods. As Pope Francis reminds us, our parishes need to be “islands of mercy in the midst of a sea of indifference.” Everyone in the parish community should know where to refer a pregnant woman in need. The 25th anniversary year of Evangelium vitae gives us a wonderful opportunity to assess, expand, and communicate resources to pregnant moms and families in need. The US Catholic Bishops have invited parishes to participate in a nationwide effort to support their local pregnancy help centers with a program entitled: “Walking with Moms in Need: A Year of Service.” More info visit: https://www.usccb.org/committees/pro-life-activities We can support this local pregnancy center with our contributions and participation at the Virtual Fundraiser, Thursday, October 29, at 7:00 p.m. Keynote speaker: Sister Deirdre Bryne. For more information visit: https://www.womenslifecarecenter.org/new-events

All materials are accessible to connect in any time. Highlights from Talk1:

Prayer is a Personal Relationship with God by Archbishop Hebda. “Being a Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an event, a person, which gives life a new horizon and a decisive direction.” (Joy of the Gospel 7)

“…The wonder of prayer is revealed beside the well where we come seeking water: there, Christ comes to meet every human being…. God thirsts that we may thirst for him.” Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) 2560

Importance of Silence. Gleaning from St. Ignatius in using the imagination when praying with scripture.

Using the ARRR approach during your prayer time: Acknowledge; Relate; Receive; Respond

Tips to starting a prayer time: Set a routine, start with 15 minutes a day, use the Prayer Companions provided.

Aging Boldly—October 13, 2020 On Tuesday, October 13th, the Pastoral Care Council will sponsor a presentation on the topic of “Aging Boldly”. Tim Overweg, Director of Donor Engagement for the Lyngblomsten Foundation, draws each of us into the story. Building on his own family insights, solid research on ag-ing, a wealth of professional experience and humor, Tim poignantly de-scribes this season of life. The Age Boldly presentation will open your eyes to the reality of aging, your mind to possibilities, and your heart to compassion, all with a sense of urgency about the importance of working together on behalf of all of us. The 45 minute address will be in the main church at 6:30 pm followed by a brief question and answer period. The presentation will also be live streamed on the Catholic Community of St. Odilia Youtube Channel.

©LPi

Growing up Catholic means I must have heard a million times the passage in Matthew’s Gospel about how doing things

for the “least of these” means you have done them for Jesus. Okay, that is an exaggeration to make a point. But it has

been a slogan for so many social justice activities, from clothing and canned food drives, to letter writing campaigns and

peaceful protests.

Growing up I only knew how to help the least of these through the school and church activities of the time. Today,

YouTube and GodTube are filled with videos of creative ways people reach out to one another. Have you seen the one

about the pizza party for the homeless? How about the fake lottery ticket or the house bought from online donations for

a poor man? There are even videos of people paying for the car behind them at the drive-through! The awesome thing

about this is that it serves as a witness to others. It is not boasting but instead sharing the Good News. Giving and good

stewardship can be contagious!

Our pastor has several times over the years handed out $10 bills to confirmation candidates and asked them to “pay it

forward.” They can keep the money or use it to make a difference in someone else’s life. One teen planted a garden for

an elderly woman. One bought ingredients for brownies and sold them to give even more than $10 to charity. The teens

not only learned something about good stewardship in the process, but also served as great examples to the parish com-

munity.

As always, there is much to be done. The King is coming soon! Let’s spread the news and some love at the same time!
