Game Battle of Fulford GateDescription Its 1066, and the King is dead. Harald Hardrada set sail for England , landing

near York where he and about 6,000 Vikings were confronted by the Anglo-Saxon earls, Edwin and Morcar and about 5,000 of their closest friends. While the battle of Fulford Gate did not end up as a win for the Saxons, it did set up the resounding defeat (and death of Hardrada) a week later.

But that’s all in the future. First we have to see what is in store on the fields at Fulford. Rules are a Saga-derivative (if you haven’t played Saga, don’t worry: you’ll have these rules under your belt in about 10 minutes—which includes my 5 minute rule explanation at the start). We playtested this 10-turn scenario (it was a near-run thing) and completed it under 3 hours.
