Information for Visiting Douglas House

Located south of Cambridge city centre, Douglas House boasts excellent transport connections, giving visitors a range of inexpensive and environmentally friendly travel options. We are committed to encouraging people to travel sustainably where this is possible.

Douglas House is on the corner of Bentley Road and Trumpington Road and shares a site with Brookside Family Consultation Clinic.

Rail Travel

There is a fast and frequent rail service from London King’s Cross and London Liverpool Street through to Cambridge. There are also excellent connections from Scotland and the North via Peterborough, and regional services from Birmingham and the Midlands, East Anglia, and the Northwest.

Cambridge rail station is approximately one mile away from Douglas House. It is located on Station Road (off Hills Road) – as highlighted on the map.

It takes approximately 20 minutes to walk from the station to Douglas House, with the shortest route following along the attractive and tree-lined Brooklands Avenue. Taxis are also available from outside the station.

Park & Ride

Cambridge has five Park & Ride sites across the city. All are well signed from major routes into Cambridge.

Car parking charges apply and currently cost £1 for 18 hours. Cycle parking is available for free at each of the sites.

The Trumpington Park & Ride stops on Trumpington Road.

Bus

Stagecoach operates a comprehensive network of frequent and reliable buses. The Citi 4 stops on Brooklands Avenue. The Citi 7 stops on Long Road.

Many different types of ticket are available including the City Megarider which provides unlimited travel on Citi buses for seven days.

Guided Busway

The Guided Busway provides an innovative, traffic-free route and connects Cambridge, Huntingdon and St Ives.

Routes A, C and R all run to Cambridge rail station. Route B provides a direct service to the city centre (Drummer Street).

Cycle

Cycling in Cambridge offers an excellent opportunity to admire the city’s open spaces and architecture. The city boasts over 80 miles of cycle lanes and routes and therefore provides a quick, easy way to travel.

Cycles can be hired from as little as £5 per day. A list of cycle hire shops can be collected from the Tourist Information Centre (The Guildhall, Peas Hill).

Zipcars

There are Zipcars spread out across Cambridge meaning it’s always easy to get one when you need it.

If you start from Cambridge rail station, you can find eight Zipcars all within walking distance. There is one just outside the station itself, another by Cambridge University Botanic Gardens, two more on Hills Road and another three near Mill Road.

To find your nearest Zipcar, just log onto the app or website to locate and book it. Fuel for 60 miles of travel and insurance is included in the cost.
