While Listening Activity – Use the Resource material –a 4x4 grid with a set of 8 rhyming words and join the dots given in the student Activity Sheet

In class

Language Focus:-Vocabulary enrichment through speaking about birds (Individual) or conversation about birds (groups)Time Plan for the Activity:-30minutes5minutes (to listen to the teacher’s instructions)25 minutes (pick up the cards in turns and talk few sentences about the bird)Resources and materials:- Colourful pictures cards of Crow, Parrot, Peacock, Sparrow, Kingfisher, Eagle, Jay, Robin, Cock, Duck, Cuckoo, Hen. Here a set of coloured card and an outline are enclosed for reference for the teacher.

Pre-Speaking Activity- Students may be given a colouring worksheet prepared from the pictures enclosed below. Teacher calls out the colour and the body parts for each bird. The teacher may ask students to add the contexts ie a bit of the surroundings as perceived by the child which will help to speak about the picture.

For example - teacher to call out “Colour the beak of the parrot red, its feathers light green and the branch of the tree brown”. This listening input along with a brief discussion about each picture can help children when they are asked to speak individually or in groups. Teacher can ask a few leading questions like –“Have you seen this bird?. Where have you seen it? What does it eat? Children can give some imaginative answers which can be encouraged for speaking.

While Speaking Activity

Cut out a copy of the worksheet into cards or allow children to choose any picture (s) from their worksheet

Place the cards face down on the table in the front. Invite a pupil to pick up a card; encourage identifying and speaking about it.

Pupils take turns and complete this activity.

POST SPEAKING ACTIVITY- Write a cartoon strip about the conversation between a Robin and Jay or discuss in groups and present an imaginary conversation, role play or presentation about any bird
