ArenaVision LED system – enabling new experiences at sports venues Philips ArenaVision LED floodlighting system – a new innovative LED pitch-lighting solution supporting the latest TV broadcasting standards and a control platform that lets you create a complete immersive experience. It can be installed in outdoor and indoor sports arenas and stadiums, indoor sports halls such as aquatic centers, velodromes, ice-hockey stadiums, as well as multipurpose arenas.

Designed specifically for high-end sports and multifunctional lighting applications for use at televised events, the system meets all current and future field-of-play requirements, i.e. light level, uniformity, glare rating. ArenaVision LED offers outstanding light quality, effective thermal management, and a very long lifespan. Since it comes with a dedicated control system and user interface, the Philips ArenaVision LED solution allows intuitive, easy, and very reliable selection between optimal lighting configurations, including immersive lighting effects that have not been available before with traditional HID pitch lighting.

The new ArenaVision LED system can also be employed in venue applications and light settings that would normally require dedicated entertainment lighting fixtures. The user can switch between fixed sports lighting configurations that fulfill sports federations’ requirements and provide preprogramed special lighting effects by simply pushing a button. For more advanced lighting effects it is also possible to connect an external lighting controller to the ArenaVision LED control system, allowing full integration of the ArenaVision LED floodlights in a light show.

The new ArenaVision LED control system even offers the option of connecting façade or stand lighting fixtures to create a fully immersive audience experience before, during and after the event, leaving the spectators with a lasting impression and a strong desire to return.

TownGuide – easy to choose, easy to use, and designed around your needsThe TownGuide family is a functional outdoor LED lighting range for the lower post-top applications. TownGuide is most suitable in residential areas, parks, squares and pathways. A unique and innovative feature of the TownGuide family is the implementation of mid-power LED’s as light source. Through a large quantity of LED’s, used at a low drive current, the light intensity per LED is much lower. The result is improved visual comfort, particularly relevant at lower mounting heights. Furthermore the bayonet whistle connector, with integrated gland, located in the spigot of the luminaire, makes installation very easy without opening the luminaire.

The TownGuide range is split into two types: Performer and Core. The TownGuide Performer, with 5 recognizable yet contemporary shapes, available in a clear or frosted bowl and obtaining a very attractive Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). The TownGuide Core with two widely accepted shapes and either a clear or frosted bowl and key focus on achieving the lowest initial investment. Add a wide range of optics and it is easy to select the version that bests suits your lighting project requirements.

TownGuide Performer can be installed with control systems that make it an integral part of your sustainable energy reduction programs. From, stand-alone dimming solutions LumiStep and DynaDimmer SDU switch-dim possibilities to seamless remote lighting connectivity with CityTouch lighting management software.

Both TownGuide Performer and Core offer significant energy cost saving opportunities compared to conventional lighting, making them a natural choice to replace e.g. HPL lamps, which will be banned from 2015 onwards.

EcoStyle, AmbiScene Mirror and InteGrade LED

Daring feminine fashion deserves a daring LED lighting concept

Day Offi ce Evening

BackgroundThe SuperTrash brand, established by Olcay Gulsen, offers affordable luxury clothes,

shoes and accessories for women ‘who dare to show what they’re about’. Following

the success in the Netherlands, the brand has spread its wings around the world,

with its own stores in 32 countries and more than 2,000 shops that carry its brand.

The Dutch fl agship store was recently reopened in the Leidsestraat in Amsterdam...

and Philips accepted the challenge of delivering a striking lighting concept.

Challenge“We wanted to combine the feeling of a boutique with the service of a hotel”,

says Ingmar Brenninkmeijer, Head of Retail SuperTrash. “And our clothes play

the leading role here”, he explains. “With low power consumption LED lighting

we wanted to ensure that every piece of clothing and accessory would be seen

in its true light. Which is why we asked three suppliers to prepare a test set-up

with LED. The LED lighting from Philips provided the most natural representation

of the colors. That was the clincher for us.” Following the ‘go’, Philips took up the

challenge of supplying the lighting inside two and half weeks, installing it to do the

lighting plan the justice it deserved.

Solution“Garments need light. And Philips’ help was absolutely picture perfect”, says

Brenninkmeijer as he points at one of the EcoStyle LED spotlights. This spotlight,

with its special refl ector, provides powerful accent lighting and at the same time it

has very low power consumption. “The realistic colors mean that people no longer

have to go outside to see the color the piece of clothing actually has.” The InteGrade

LED has been employed as attractive shelf lighting for the accessories in the brass

display cabinets. This ‘invisible’ LED lighting is suitable for almost any shelf or display

and always fi ts. But he considers the absolute pinnacle to be the friends fi tting room.

“Together with Philips we developed a fi tting room that is a fantastic experience.”

Thanks to the unique AmbiScene Vanity and Fashion mirror in which lighting has

been integrated, the fi tting room has three light settings: ‘day’, ‘offi ce’ and ‘evening’. So

it’s now possible to see garments in the lighting situation in which they’ll be worn.

“And the accompanying music will put you in exactly the right mood.”

Benefi tsThe garments, the atmosphere, the music, the light... Brenninkmeijer got the shop

he had imagined. “Just like us, Philips wants to supply quality”, he says with a smile.

“They haven’t just demonstrated this with their lighting concept, but also through

their approach and innovative solutions. In just two and a half weeks they took us

froma well thought through lighting plan to the complete implementation. This is

exactly in line with our get-on-with-it-attitude: that’s how we want to work!”

Fresh Food LED – making fresh food even more appealing Fresh food is the main attraction in any supermarket – and the fresher it looks, the better it sells. Philips has a portfolio of dedicated LED light

sources designed to make fresh food look at its best – including LED Rose to enhance the appeal and delay discoloration of sliced meat.

As well as making fresh food produce look irresistibly appetizing, Philips Fresh Food LED solutions are energy-effi cient and long-lasting,

which results in a good total cost of ownership and a fast return on investment.

Attracting customers and reducing waste, Rose LED light recipe is the state-of-the-art solution for meat display counters. The lighting-induced discoloration of sliced meat in supermarkets may be only a ‘cosmetic’ problem, but it still puts some customers off buying. Years of close collaboration between Philips’ renowned research laboratories and leading retailers has led to the development of dedicated light spectra that can help retailers significantly extend the shelf life of their fresh meat produce and reduce waste.

The problem of waste The European Retail Forum recently reported that in many cases food waste is having a significant impact on retailers’ revenue, with

meat products being one of the biggest areas of concern. Although lighting-induced discoloration of sliced meat presents no hygiene

or health problems, it can put customers off buying the product. Even worse, because the fresh food area is often the main reason a

customer prefers a particular supermarket, discolored sliced meat can reduce consumer loyalty.

Understanding the issue Recent laboratory research by Philips has increased understanding of the effect of light spectrum, light level and exposure time – and

the way these factors interact – on the discoloration of sliced meat. This research also disproved an observed beneficial effect of

applying UV or red-enhancing filters: these filters lower the light level and influence the visibility of discoloration – they do not stop the

discoloration itself.

In addition to this laboratory research, Philips conducted in-store testing with Dutch supermarket chain Plus. The results of these field

tests corroborated the laboratory investigations, underscoring the fact that more light generally means less shelf life.

Up to 30% longer shelf lifeThe best way to slow down light-induced discoloration is to use a light source with an optimized light spectrum. With an optimized

spectrum, retailers can opt for a longer shelf life or, alternatively, higher lighting levels.

By way of example: in tests, the leading-edge Philips LED Rose Food range extended the shelf life of sliced meat by up to 30%

(compared to conventional White SON lamps). These tests also built upon qualitative consumer acceptance levels derived from

customer surveys conducted with a well-known meat supplier.

Complete range The LED Rose provides eye-catching accent and general lighting. Already available in a choice of spotlight projectors, recessed accent

and suspended pendants
