A common problem on the 800cc Daewoo/Chevrolet Matiz/Spark is corrosion to the alloy cylinder head and distortion (warping) of the plastic inlet manifold, resulting in a coolant leak between the two.

The plastic inlet manifold on this three cylinder engine includes a blanking plate moulded to the end

which seals against a water-way on the cylinder head. Over time the plastic deteriorates, eventually resulting in a coolant leak.

ADG06290 which is available NOW from Blue Print, is an inlet manifold repair kit to give a long term cure to this particular problem, comprising of a high quality blanking plate and modified manifold gasket.

Its time to fit Blue Print...Malfunctioning of the clock spring (also known as the air bag squib) on the Chrysler Voyager and Grand Voyager models is not an uncommon problem, to the point that Chrysler issued a safety recall in 2004 for this particular issue on models manufactured between 1996 > 2001, which affected as many as 1.2 million vehicles worldwide.

Symptoms:n Air bag warning light intermittently or constantly illuminated or

failing to illuminate when ignition is turned on

n Horn not working

n Cruise control not working

The PT of PT Cruiser originates from the 1930s line of Plymouth Trucks, but is also said to stand for Personal Transportation. Were sure there are probably many other less flattering variations used.

Thermostat HousingChrysler PT Cruiser 2.0i, 2.4i 2000>

A common problem on the PT Cruiser is that the thermostat housing can warp or crack!

The thermostat housing/coolant filler neck is a plastic moulded item (located towards the OSF of the engine compartment) that can often warp or crack from thermal expansion and contraction.

Replacement is the only option for a long-lasting repair, and it is considered good practice to renew the thermostat and gasket (ADA109210C) at the same time as there would be no additional labour involved.

The evaporative canister is equipped with a Purge Control Valve which controls the amount of vapour purged into the inlet manifold. This part commonly fails due to contaminants and water intrusion and puts the engine management light on, often with fault code P0443 (evaporative emission system purge control valve circuit).

Surface deterioration of the coolant level float is a common problem on the Mazda RX8. This causes the float to absorb coolant and sink, which gives a low coolant reading on the dashboard regardless of the actual level.

The float is not available separately so replace it with the complete Blue Print OEM quality expansion tank, which includes an uprated float so you wont need to replace the unit again.

Timing chain issues on the Nissan Micra are not uncommon. The problem lies with the original Hi-Vo type chain which was designed for silent running, but prone to

premature stretching/elongating (in as little as 15,000 miles) which puts the engines

timing out. This obviously has an effect on the engines performance and will

eventually put the MIL light on.

Blue Prints timing chain kit has an optimised link plate design and special pin surface treatment, giving low-noise

performance and a far superior resistance to stretching/wear than the original chain.

The Nissan Navara is plagued with problems not least of these is the

halfshafts. The failure is caused by an inferior quality seal which leaks

causing the bearing to fail.

The bearing and the seal are not available separately, meaning the whole

High performance Subaru models can suffer from abused clutches due to the high power of the engine and high traction levels from the 4WD system.

Excess heat from the clutch of an unsympathetically driven car can cause damage to the flywheel and subsequent judder when fitting a new clutch.

Good practice is to check surface condition of the flywheel and replace if there are any tell-tale signs of heat damage.

Every time this filter is fitted the tool will be required

The JTD style fuel filter element used on some Chevrolet and Suzuki models (and, of course commonly found on many Fiats and Opels) is fitted inside a plastic housing which is sealed tight by a large plastic ring.

Accessing the filter requires the housing to be removed from the vehicle and somehow firmly located whilst the plastic ring is loosened. NOT an easy task when you dont have the right tool for the job! Blue Prints OE developed tool is the perfect solution - Technicians will wonder how they ever managed without it!

However, like any other part they do still fail. Whenever a replacement alternator is needed it is always best practice to replace the OAP at the same time.

Symptoms of a failed OAP

Modern vehicles are more power hungry than ever before; satellite navigation, heated seats, on-board DVD players and other additional systems require more electrical power, which has caused vehicle manufacturers to fit bigger and more powerful alternators to meet this demand.

Every time an engine decelerates, the alternators inertia creates resistance against the belt. The heavier the alternator, the more resistance is generated, therefore the greater the wear on the belt and pulley components.

Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) have been fitted to diesel cars for over 12 years now and their job is to remove particulate matter and soot from the vehicles exhaust. The diesel particulate filter usually removes more than 85% of soot, but can remove nearly 100% in optimum conditions.

NOx and particulatesManufacturers are under increasing pressure to reduce the amount of NOx (nitrogen oxides) and soot from diesel vehicle exhaust.

NOx is formed when combustion temperatures exceed 1,800C manufacturers use the process of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) to slow the combustion process and reduce peak temperatures, thus reducing the production of NOx.

The side effectsSlowing the combustion process and reducing the peak temperature means that the engines timing needs to be adjusted this causes some loss of mean torque and an increase in fuel consumption.

It also increases the chance of incomplete combustion, which increases the amount of soot.

The role of the DPFIts the job of the DPF to trap the soot and prevent it from entering the atmosphere.

Over time, the filter becomes restricted or even blocked by the soot and its at this point the vehicle will go into the process of regeneration to clear the filter.

To do this, the vehicle must be driven at mid throttle, for a set period of time (e.g. on a motorway) in order to provide it with extra oxygen and increase the temperature across the DPF to around 550C.

Despite this, DPFs still fail and need to be replaced; even more so if the vehicle only does short journeys and the regeneration process is never completed. In this instance the vehicle arrives at a garage in limp home mode.

Toyota Suction Control ValvesCertain models of Toyota fitted with the 2.0 D-4D engine can suffer with malfunctioning Suction Control Valves (or SCV for short) causing running issues such as a sudden lack of power which can be intermittent and often put the engine management light on.

The original valves can suffer with a slowing of their operation caused by valve seat wear. Blue Prints suction control valves ADT36846C have been modified from the original specification meaning they should last longer than the valves originally fitted.

The fuel pump is now visible (just to the left of the starter motor). Make sure the area around the green and red SCVs is as clean as possible to reduce the risk of debris entering the pump.

Disconnect the wiring connectors from the SCVs.

Remove the four SCV mounting bolts (two per valve) and then remove the two valves from the pump making sure you note the positions of the red and green valves (red at the front).

Although the seals on the new valves are pre-lubricated, it is good practice to apply a little engine oil to the seals to reduce the risk of damage during fitting.

Ensuring the mounting area is clean, install the valves carefully making sure that they are installed in their correct positions and that the valve flange fits flush to the pump before tightening the fixing bolts to 13Nm (10lb-ft).

The rest of the fitting procedure is the reverse of the removal.

Reset the engine diagnostic trouble codes using a suitable diagnostics tool before road testing the vehicle.

Unbolt the radiator expansion bottle (2 nuts) and move it to one side to gain access to the fuel pump. You may wish to disconnect the upper hose and plug, to give you more room.

Remove the air intake/intercooler pipe.

Blue Print has produced the following guide for replacing SCVs on a Toyota RAV4, and the basic principals will be the same for other Toyota models: Repair time approximately 45 minutes.

Connecting an affected vehicle to suitable diagnostic equipment should show diagnostic trouble codes of P0627 (fuel pump control circuit open) or 78 (fuel circuit malfunction).

The JTD style fuel filter element used on some Chevrolet and Suzuki models (and, of course commonly found on many Fiats and Vauxhalls) is fitted inside a plastic housing which is sealed tight by a large plastic ring.

Accessing the filter requires the housing to be removed from the vehicle and somehow firmly located whilst the plastic ring is loosened. NOT an easy task when you dont have the right tool for the job! Blue Prints OE developed tool is the perfect solution - Technicians will wonder how they ever managed without it!
