A Night with the Thief on the Cross
The 7th
graders
enjoying their
Seder meal!
"The Symphonic Band of Martin Luther High School, Greendale,
Wisconsin, will be performing a concert on Tuesday, April 5th, at 7:30
PM here in the St. Peter sanctuary. This award-winning instrumental
group will be making this appearance as part of a six-day concert tour
to Washington D.C. They will perform a wide variety of traditional band
repertoire and sacred music. The 47-member Symphonic Band will
perform works from such composers as John Philip Sousa, David
Holsinger, John Zdechlik, Aaron Copland, and Karl King.
Let by Instrumental Director Jessica L. Kindschi Walter, the Symphonic
Band is the top auditioned band at the high school. Since 1969, the
Symphonic Band has embarked on an annual concert tour which has
taken them to 25 states and Canada. Martin Luther High School is one
of three Missouri Synod Lutheran High Schools in the Milwaukee area.
It has a student body of nearly 460 students and is currently in its 48th
year of operation.
The public is cordially invited to attend this performance. A free-will
offering will be received to help the students defray the cost of the tour.
We hope you will join us in welcoming this talented group of students to
our school!"

You can perform by yourself or yo might want to get a few friends
together to create a skit or performance of some kind.
There will be try-outs to gain a spot to share your talent on April 25 -
27.
So start practicing and deciding what you can do! It will be a lot of fun
for all!
Community Threads - Update from Elizabeth!
It was great to have Elizabeth Maring, Executive Director of
Community Threads, speak to our congregation last weekend. If
you missed it, here are a few highlights... Sales are up in our new
space! Clothing, furniture and housewares are still the big three.
St. Peter has received $260,000.00 in grants from the store so
far -to God be the glory! Thank you donors, shoppers and
volunteers. The most important thing in this endeavor is you!

Spanish 1: This week we went over some of our new vocabulary
words, tasted conchas (Mexican sweet bread), and watched the
movie Inside Out in Spanish without subtitles. Your homework is to
speak Spanish whenever you get the chance and try to visit a
Mexican Bakery!
My favorite Mexican Bakery is called "El Chicanto Bakery" in
Palatine on Dundee Rd. Check it out! It is packed full of
traditional Mexican food.
Spanish 2: We did not meet this week due to the play at the Orchard.

St. Peter Weekly Athletic Schedule
Upcoming St. Peter Athletic Schedule
LBAA National Basketball Tournament - Both of our teams
were selected to the 32 team Lutheran National Basketball
Tournament in Valparaiso, IN this weekend, March 18-20. This
is a tremendous accomplishment as a St. Peter boys team has
not qualified since 2006 and the Girls since 2011. All games
will be live streamed through the LBAA website: www.lbaa.org
Our teams play their first games on Friday: Boys @ 8:00 am vs.
Concordia, San Antonio and Girls @ 4:25 pm vs. St. Paul’s,
Fort Wayne. Congratulations to both teams on their seasons
and the opportunity to compete at Nationals!
St. Peter Track & Field Season Track & Field is just around the corner. Coach Corinne Ginder
and her staff will lead our program again this year and look to
build on the success of the 2015 season. Practices are NOW
tentatively scheduled to start the week AFTER Spring Break.

For your reference, all of our Health assignments for the 3rd
quarter will be listed at the bottom of the PE/Health Homework
Google Doc. We have started our Volleyball Unit in PE and it
will continue after Spring Break. In Health, we are planning to
do 3 weeks of sex education after the break. Look for an
informational letter to be e-mailed to all 6-8th graders in the near
future.

English – Grade SixText – We will hit the ground running with our study of nouns and pronouns after spring break.
Vocabulary – Vocabulary unit A13 will capture our attention the first week of fourth quarter. Composition – Wanted19: Pictures of the handsome and the beautiful to complete our memoirs.
We are having a great time composing our creative narratives.
English – Grade SevenText – Our concentration is on the cusp of moving from adjectives and adverbs into prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections.
Vocabulary – Vocabulary unit B13 will command our attention the week following spring break. Composition –We are turning our efforts to a piece of persuasive writing that will incorporate the best of our composition skills.
English – Grade EightText – Our parts of speech plate is overflowing! Pronouns, adjectives, and adverbs, as well as prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections are all part of our universe.
Vocabulary – We will focus our eyes and minds on vocabulary unit C14 after spring break. Composition – While we have begun working in earnest on our personal brochures, we are ecstatic that the research paper is a fond memory!

6 th Grade Literature: Nonfiction
After Spring Break, we will begin our Book Club unit (otherwise known as Literature
Circles). I will be providing students with a selection of books and they will choose
one and use it as the basis for having small group discussions. There will be one
quiz and one written assignment due each week with this unit. A list of choices and
a schedule of reading and assignments will be provided the week after break.
7 th Grade Literature: The Magician’s Nephew
During the weeks after Spring Break we will compare and contrast the genres of
Fable, Folk Tale and Fairy Tale, and look at the influence each has had on
Literature. There will be reading assignments from the Literature book as well as
some research of the different story types.
8 th Grade Literature: Romeo and Juliet
We finished reading the play before break, but rather than pushing through to finish
the unit before break, we will review and have our final assessment after break.
final writing assignment will be handed out on the Tuesday after we return from
break which will be due on Monday, April 4th.
Miss Schmidt:[email protected] Grade ReligionThe sixth graders did a fantastic job on their Kings, Queens, and Prophets unit. This week we began our "Mythbusters" mini-series and took a look at the period of 400 years between the Old and New Testament. Memory for next week is #134.
7 th Grade Religion
The class did a great job leading chapel this week! We also celebrated a Seder Meal with Mr. Rudi on Thursday after learning about the symbolism of each of the different aspects of the meal. When we return from break, we will resume memory work on that Friday. We will be finishing the story of Balaam and his talking donkey before moving on to the conquest of Canaan by the Israelites.

8th Grade ReligionStudents are finishing up learning about the Lord’s Prayer. They will start working on their review sheets as well as finishing the petition memory quizzes.
Here is the scoop for the upcoming week:
6th grade – period 1 - We will be starting chapter 13. In chapter 13 we will be studying geometry. Students will be working on identifying shapes, finding missing angles, and solving for area of figures. We will also reviewing for the standardize tests the following week.
6th grade – period 2 -We be starting chapter 12. In chapter 12 we will be continuing in our geometry unit. We will be reviewing surface area and volume or 3 dimensional figures. We will also reviewing for the standardize tests the following week.
7th grade - We are starting Algebra! Students will be switching their books out and we will be

When we return from break, we will see where students stand with a cumulative test over the beginning of the algebra book. Students did a review in class and will take this test on Thursday!
8th Grade
Ready to experience what a final exam is like in high school? The next quarter is all about preparation for what math will look like in 9th grade! I will start with a cumulative test over the entire algebra book! Wheew! Then we will move on to Geometry and some Algebra 2. I will encourage students to start a new notebook with all of this new information in it, to use as reference next year! If you want to get them a new single subject notebook over break, they will be ready to go!

In 6th grade we are still on our Medieval unit. We will be learning about the plague, the power of the church, as well as warfare.
In 7th grade we are starting our unit on Africa. We are learning about North, West, and Central Africa first. Students will be learning about life in Africa, working on their map skills as well as adding to our passports.
In 8th grade students are presenting their presidential posters and then we are moving on to the Progressive Era, women’s suffrage, as well as the immigrant experience.
Science in the News… Did you know…there is a movement in a number of states to pass mandatory GMO labeling laws that would tell consumers if their foods contain genetically modified ingredients? GMO, or genetically modified organisms, have been used in various food products for almost twenty years. Most of these are grains that have been genetically altered and are used in a variety of food products.
6th Grade We ended our unit on the study of climates and climate regions this week with an open note review on this chapter. We will be doing a lab related to the concepts we learned the week we return from break. 7th Grade We began our study of genetic engineering this week and how this process occurs. We will be learning about the benefits of this technology in the medical and agricultural areas as well as the controversies surrounding it.
8th Grade We spent most of this week balancing chemical equations and learning about the different classifications of chemical equations. We ended the week studying the different factors that affect the rates of chemical reactions and will finish the unit when we return from break.
