The English Department currently comprises five full time teachers who are all committed and enthusiastic practitioners.

At Key Stage 3 a clear, structured programme of study is in place with a healthy emphasis upon literature, reading and literacy. Assessment methodology within the department is strong and this provides accurate focused data concerning pupil performance and progress. Students have dedicated reading lessons in the Library and they also receive research and information handling skills from the ILC staff.

At Key Stage 4, there is again a clearly structured programme of study which has been revised in light of the recent specification changes. All students take both English Language and English Literature. Outcomes at GCSE are strengthening and are projected to continue doing so.

Results across all Key Stages are very good and are consistently above the national averages at KS3. The department is actively represented upon the schools Teaching & Learning Group and has a healthy programme of author visits, speakers and additional specialist inputs. In recent years the department has been actively engaged in the Salford Childrens Book of The Year Award and has hosted extremely successful events including An Evening of the Spoken Word.

There is an excellent team spirit within the English department and the school monitoring and evaluation process routinely reflect that teaching is always good, frequently outstanding. The successful candidate will be joining a very strong and hugely supportive department, and a school where staff development and movement to senior posts occur on a regular basis.
