03Annual Report 2015
Executive Message
It’s 1980. Ronald Reagan is elected President of the United States, and John Dalton is the 63rd Governor of the Commonwealth. Post-It-Notes, a newly invented product, go on sale for the first time. CNN becomes the first 24-hour news channel. The Pac-Man arcade game is released to the public.
Thirty-five years ago, a small band of pioneers made a pact — to promote the development of primary care services where need-ed, in cooperation with existing services. With that purpose in mind, these leaders took the bold step to establish a representative organiza-tion of Virginians with interests rooted in primary health care, and so the Virginia Community Healthcare Association was born.
In those years, we have witnessed a variety of changes that have impacted, and continue to impact, the delivery of primary care services. Of all these changes, the one thing that remains constant is the steadfast commitment of our 29 member organizations to provide quality, comprehensive primary care.
In 2015, that commitment resulted in:
• Recognition of quality care, with more than $875,000 awarded to our members by the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA). This funding will allow our members to continue their good work and expand their quality improvement systems.
• Additional funding from HRSA, allowing five new health center sites to soon open their doors to provide high quality health care to more than 15,900 new patients.
• Recognition of 81% of our members as Patient Centered Medical Homes — a healthcare model that organizes and delivers health care that is patient- and family-centered, com-prehensive, coordinated, accessible, and structured to continuously improve quality and safety.
These are just a few examples of the achievements and successes of the Association in 2014-2015. In looking to the future, we imagine a state in which all Virginians have convenient access to high quality, affordable health care. Until that day comes, the Association remains dedicated to continuing its long tradition of providing wide-ranging assistance to our members as they address the health care needs of their communities.
