Let us never forget this, and all terrorist attacks, the world has suffered.

O Almighty and Eternal God, Lord of the Universe, sustain us, we beseech Thee, o’er the

    course of “life’s tempestuous sea.”

Keep us, we pray Thee, secure within the Bark of Peter, ever trustful of Christ and His Vicars

to guide us along the ways of peace and prosperity.

May Jesus, Our Saviour, PRESERVE US IN THE UNITY OF THE Holy Faith and confirm

our hopes of sharing its treasures with America. Send forth the power and love of the Holy Spirit,

that we may be blessed in our efforts to set forth Thy glory in this land under the patronage of

Mary’s Immaculate Conception. Let our Fraternity flourish in justice and charity and give eternal

praise and glory to the Most Holy Trinity. Be mindful of each of our Brothers, departed, and receive

them into the heaven of eternal peace.

MARY IMMACULATE, Mother of the Knights of Columbus of California, Pray for us.

  • Father McGivney Prayer God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney o n earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Rare changes to the time or day will be posted under this heading. Please contact our Church Director/ Lecturer Gary Schlemmer @ 760-961-8777 if you need information.

PROGRAMS DIRECTOR/DEPUTY GRAND KNIGHT Brothers… A few of you missed the first porker night at the hall. Let me tell you, it was a great event. We shared brotherly company, in a relaxing setting, enjoying appetizers and drinks. You don’t want to miss the next one. I for sure won’t. A reminder to note, the last part of this wonderful year is approaching at lightning speed and our favorite event will fill up so fast that you might miss out so please volunteer and commit as early as you can so we can start moving forward. And lastly, remember to invite someone to join our council. If you are able to invite one hundred - we can accommodate

    DGK, SK Valentin Godina\Programs Director

As many already do, please keep our WWII Knights in your prayers. We are very fortunate to (potentially) have three surviving WWII vets as members of our Council. Two are close enough for us to

see fairly frequently, Br. Alfred Rocca and SK Randy Bohse. The third, Br Medford Hollis, lives out of state and we don’t have a good handle on the status of his health. Their birthdates range from 1920 to

1925 so our prayers may be as important for them now as they were in WWII.

  • High Desert Squires Circle 4306

The Squires celebrated their 4th year anniversary on August 29. We had our annual pool party to celebrate this on August 5th. The Squires are going to Christ the Good Shepherd on September 16th & Our Lady of the Desert on October 13th & 14th to try and bring in new candidates into our circle.

We are STILL looking for brother knights who would like to dedicate some of their time and knowledge to become counselors to the Squires. We are currently working with brother Jesse Ocana to become a counselor. If you are concerned about not being able to give a lot of time, don't worry! We have 1 meeting a month and you are not obligated to attend all the events. If you think you can do this or want to try it to see if it’s a good fit, please give me a call or email me. These young men are the future of our council, let's show them we care and support them.

    Thank You,

  • KNIGHTS IN ACTION

SK Glen Kraig delivers donation check to Call-to -Life Pregnancy Center

Squire Counselors are needed, and new members are always welcomed!

Please contact Grand Knight Jay Mingus or Chief Counselor Erik Wood if you would like to be a positive influence on our young Catholic gentlemen by becoming a Counselor in the High Desert Squires.

CORPORATE BOARD MEMBERS NEEDED! Because of “conflict of interest” clauses, it was necessary that two key members relinquish their office thus there are some very interesting positions to fill. The Board meets once each month and the Directors are faced with interesting challenges. The Directors are the ones who make sure we have a place to meet. All knights are eligible, but you must show your interest by submitting your name to the Council Trustees. It can be very fulfilling.

  • Let’s not forget – Our Lady of Fatima the Rosary Rally

    My brothers,

Saturday, October 13, is the 101st anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima’s last apparition to the peasant children in Portugal, and as you probably know, the Blessed Virgin is the Protectress of the Unborn. In honor of this, we would like to publicly pray the Rosary in front of the Call for Life Pregnancy Help Center, asking for our Mother's intercession to protect the unborn. The address of Call for Life is 15800 Main Street, Hesperia. We would do three prayers: the Prayer for the Unborn, the Holy Rosary, and the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I would ask you to please put this event on your calendars and let’s all work together to ask for our Blessed Mother’s intercession to bring an end to the scourge of abortion This will be a statement of our Order’s strong commitment to life. To emphasize this

meaningful and significant event, we will need to have as many Knights as possible in attendance. The event should not be only Knights. Encourage your wives, children and

family members as well as friends, Catholic or not. We should have a minimum of fifty

people in attendance. Seventy would be even better. We cannot block access to the site,

nor can we block the street, but there is adequate space for this number of people.

  • POKER NIGHT!

September 21st at High Desert Hall 15163 Aspen Street Hesperia

The kick off evening in August was great. A larger group would be nice but those who attended seemed to be genuinely pleased with the inaugural event.

This is a social event for Knights from all councils of the High Desert and an opportunity get together and interact in a less than business atmosphere. Nothing to

prepare, no schedules to develop or work to perform. Just sit back, relax (if you can do that in an intense game) and enjoy being with Brother Knights just to have fun. The doors will open at 6:30PM and the dealing begins at 7:00. The format will be Texas

Hold’em. There’s a $10 buy in with one option to re-buy. Each player will receive 500 chips. For more details call Jay Mingus @ 760-981-4495

  • Invitation to all Californians Urge your Assembly Member to vote NO on SB 320

Last week, the CA Assembly Appropriations Committee approved SB 320 which would

provide medication abortions on all UC and CSU campuses. It will be heard on the floor of

the Assembly today! Please contact your Assembly member immediately and urge them to

    vote NO on SB 320.

We know how important it is to oppose abortion, since it takes the life of an unborn child

and harms women deeply. It is important to remember that most of our legislators support

abortion and will not change their minds immediately. However, everyone wants to

empower young women to succeed in college, and no one wants to support coerced

abortions. By using this common ground, even pro-choice legislators will be more likely to

    consider a no vote.

    Take Action

    Find My Assembly Member

Step 1. Call Your Assembly Member Remember: Be courteous, and use these talking points. You may not have enough time to share

all of this but you can try. Hi, my name is ___, I’m a constituent, and I am calling to urge the member to vote no on SB 320.

This bill would require public universities to provide medication abortions on campus.

26% of students are parents, but most campuses do not list the Title IX rights of these students,

  • and these students lack affordable and accessible childcare and family housing. Offering abortion

on campus will coerce the reproductive choices of students and encourage unwanted abortions,

especially for women of color, who may be uninformed of their rights on campus and may feel

    they have no other choice.

The bill may also require students to pay for abortions from student fees in 2022. And campus

physicians are concerned about the liability since their centers are not equipped. I urge a no vote.

    Dear Assembly Member ____,

CA is currently not meeting the needs of the 26% of student parents on college campuses. On their

behalf, I write to request a no vote on SB 320.

SB 320 would create a fund for UCs and CSUs to provide medical abortions in their student health

centers. However, creating an abortion fund without ensuring adequate services for pregnant and

parenting students serves to coerce students’ reproductive decisions, especially for women of color.

Black, Latino, Indigenous, and mixed-race college women have children at rates significantly

above white women. 50% of teen pregnancies to Latinas are planned. The women who most often

become pregnant on our public campuses are not looking for greater abortion access but for help

    parenting as students.

Student parents cite lack of housing and grossly inadequate child care as obstacles to completing

their education. And most public universities do not list Title IX protections for pregnant and

parenting students on their websites, leaving students ignorant of their rights. If passed, SB 320

would encourage unwanted abortion to pregnant students who are already marginalized.

California’s commitment to its rich diversity must include an equal playing field for all college

    women, including student parents.

Abortion access is ubiquitous in California from over 500 providers, referable by every student

health center, and covered by Student Health Insurance Plans and MediCal. It is not more abortion

  • that CA needs but a greater response to the changing student demographic through supportive

resources aimed at helping pregnant and parenting students succeed.

In 4 years, SB 320 may require general fund money or even student fees to pay for these

medication abortions. Even university health center physicians are concerned about the liability

associated with this bill and do not think it is a good idea.

By voting NO on SB 320, we have the chance to redraft a plan that would provide comprehensive

health and wellness services to college women, focusing on what they need to succeed.

I urge you to vote NO on SB 320 and instead support women’s life and education goals.

    Sincerely,

    FirstName LastName
