    Ladies Auxi l iar y

    Hello VFW Ladies, Family and

    Friends.

I am very excited to have been

    elected as your Ladies Auxiliary

    POST GAZETTEPOST GAZETTE

few months. Our largest event the APA pool

tournament, is from 15 May thru 15 June. I cant

thank the volunteers in the kitchen and behind the

bar enough for your hard work and dedication. I

would also like to thank the Fayetteville APA League

for allowing us to host the tournament.. It generates

a lot of needed revenue for the post.

Our post is in a desperate need for volunteers on

the Friday Night cooking teams. We are currently

down to 3 Teams. This leaves one week a month

unmanned. Our steak nights are an awesome

opportunity to serve our community. Please sign up

with our Kitchen Manager Kelly Hargrove.

The incoming Post Officers are itching to get started

and are looking for ideas and improvements from the

post membership. We would like to plan and

execute three events this year that would both

benefit the post and a charity of the memberships

choice. I am looking forward to hearing your ideas

and making this year a fun and productive

experience. Please come the meetings and events

    you deserve to be heard!

Our post will also be doing membership and Buddy

Poppy drives throughout the year. Please come out

and help the post. We need your support to

improve the post and more importantly help

veterans. Thanks for all you do for veterans!

    last year so successful.

    Our Auxiliary was awarded two

1st place and one 3rd place

awards during the last NC State

convention. It was due to all the

hard work and dedication of all

    our ladies. Speaking of

    dedication I honored

    congratulate Penny for being

selected as the NC State Ladies

    Auxiliary President.

    Please keep recruiting and

    mentoring new members. Our

mission is never done and I know

we will only improve on last

    years awesome performance.

  • The SGT Ambrose R Williams Post 670 was chartered in 1933. Third son of Arthur

and Atellia (John D, Arthur Jr. Steven) and four sisters.

During the Spanish-American War in 1898, the

Fayetteville Independent Light Infantry (FILI) was called

into National service for Cuban duties. Cpl Ambrose R.

Williams, assigned to Co A, 2nd Regiment, didnt see action, however, later in June 16, 1916, departed

Fayetteville, NC along with the Mexican border to battle Villa,

August 30, 1900, FILI Shooting contest, 4th prize,

awarded to the shooters with the lowest scores, was

contended for by PVT Gordon Jessup, Ambrose

Williams, and C.L. Jones. All three scored five goose

eggs. Each contestant was allowed one shot in shooting

off the tie. The score again stood zero for each man. It

being the unanimous verdict that none of them could hit

the side of a house at 10 paces. The contestants

mutually agreed to waste no more ammunition but to

settle the question by drawing straws. The man drawing

the shortest straw was to be considered the poorest marksman in the company and

to receive the prize; a small wooden gun. The prize was awarded to Ambrose.

After his tour of duty with the military, Ambrose became one of the most beloved

members of the Fayetteville Police Department, serving thirteen (13) years as a night

desk sergeant prior to his death.

Ambrose R. Williams passed this life on May 30, 1933. His place of rest is at the

corner of Grove & Ann streets.

The Comrades Junior Vice, Josh Holt, is one of our newest members and has stepped up to take the position of Membership Committee Chairman. Josh, Bryan, and Jerry Have be appointed to the committee. We could always

use more ideas and participation in the committee. Please help us help the post. Email your questions or
