  • PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Well, March stinks this year. This has been a true stress test. COVID19 has proven to be even more traumatic than two years of forest fires. No one has been unscathed in trying to deal with this. To date, I am not aware of any of our members who have suffered any affliction caused by the disease, and I certainly hope it stays that way. You are all in our thoughts.

The Executive Board meeting on March 25 was held by teleconference thanks to Jeff Farber who has a means to provide that service. Following the meeting, it was decided to cancel all April NBCA activities. Activities in May will be considered in April. If you have any issues of which you would like the officers or other members to be aware, just send me an email and we’ll make sure they are addressed.

Sorry I missed you at the March meeting. I was sitting in the rain in Phoenix. Got to see one and half Spring training ball games (go Giants) before the League cancelled the season. That’s what we call “Dan Luck”.

Speaking of March, I would like to thank (again) Steve Jackson, who orchestrated a great St. Patrick’s Day Social on the 14th. Seven beautiful Corvettes were followed by one idiot in a silver Traverse from Petaluma to Novato. I’m sure there are more comments elsewhere in here regarding this run. Fun for all.

We are still seeking ideas for “Jeff’s Journey”, a multi-day event open to all Western States Corvette members and others, which will hopefully occur sometime next year. If you have any suggestions, please provide them to Jeff, Mike or Maryanne McLucas, Neil Anderson, or me. If you would like to help us with the planning effort, please let us know.

    ALL APRIL MEETINGS CANCELLED

  • Newsletter April 2020

I hope you are doing, well and staying healthy, and getting chores done instead of watching endless depressing news analysis. I’m writing this article assuming everyone is okay, not having heard of any bad stories or illnesses. As a father of a severely disabled child, I know how stressful it is to love a person who is among the very vulnerable.

For me personally, lots of things were cancelled or postponed. I was really looking forward to driving in the Open Road Challenge in May in Nevada. That was cancelled, a few weeks ago, I felt too early. And Hooked On Driving events dating to May are canceled too.

The WSCC calendar of events includes Autocrosses and Car Shows. Each of those events scheduled now through May have been canceled. The upcoming WSCC business meeting where club reps (like me) attend to hear what the state of WSCC is, was postponed. The next important event on our NBCA calendar is our June Autocross. The board will have to decide sometime in April if we open it to Registration, or not. That decision may be made for us by Thunderhill Raceway, if they inform us that they are canceling our event.

If you are still stuck at home as of this publication’s date, I have two feel good movies to suggest. The first is called Yesterday; a comedy about a struggling musician who realizes he's the only person on Earth who can remember The Beatles after waking up in an alternate timeline where they never existed. Really cute story and a LOT of Beatles songs. The other one is called Long Shot which is about a struggling journalist that meets his childhood babysitter, who is now a famous politician running for president.

As for driving, my car has not moved for a few weeks. I’ve spent my time building a fence in my yard, by hand, by myself. Once in a lifetime event, because I’m going to hire this out if I ever need to build one again. Here is a work-in-progress photo showing it about 75% of the way finished. Posts are 8’ above the ground with 4’ gate on left and 12’ gate opening for my trailer and extra junk.

    See you all soon.

  • Social Report: April 2020

The April Drive and Dine is, April 1st, no fooling, has been cancelled due to the Corona Virus and the resulting shelter at home.

The April social is scheduled for Saturday April 11th for bowling, has also been cancelled due to the shelter at home order, for the Corona virus.

The May Drive and Dine scheduled on May 8th has been changed to a Drive with NO scheduled Dining, due to the lingering outlook toward extension of Corona Virus impacts. Everyone can stay 6 feet away from your respective car.

The May social has not been cancelled nor scheduled yet due to ongoing potential Corona Virus impacts.

We would like to solicit for any contributions you may have for the raffles held at the monthly meetings. Thank you very much, to those who have contributed prizes to the raffle.

We are continuing the Drive-and-Dines with the return of nice weather. We would like each D&D to be sponsored by a member. We have several already signed up to sponsor a Drive and Dine for one of the months remaining please consider an open month. If you are thinking about sponsoring a drive and dine here are some considerations. Pick that special restaurant you enjoy, which you would like to share with the club. We are somewhat limited on locations for Drive and Dines, which are on a week night, due to commute traffic through Marin to points North and East which are very congested. So location is a consideration where you want to take the club for your sponsored D&D.

Drive and Dine Sign-up month Sponsor April 1st Cancelled May 6th Changed to a Drive only no Dine June 3rd July 1st August 5th September 2nd Neil October 7th

We want your suggestions for social events to truly make them yours so send us your suggestions. We can go anywhere it just takes preparation and planning. We have a tentative list of socials although the dates are not yet set. We welcome any input or suggestions you may have, this is your club too.

The March social was on Saturday March 14th. We met at the at the Sonoma Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma at 12:30. The weather had started clearing up, definitely not a bright and sunny day. There

  • were 7 Vettes and 1 funny car, consisting of two C5’s, three C6’s, two C7’s and a Chevy Traverse We left about a quarter of 1 heading West toward D Steet. We took D Street out of Petaluma toward the Cheese factory. We turned left onto Novato Blvd to head into Novato after a nice leisurely drive through the country with some nice twists and turns. We turned left onto Grant Street on our way to Finnegan’s. We arrived at Finnegan’s and gathered outside waiting for everyone to go in together. Again, we had a great meal of Corned Beef and there were three that par-took in the chicken choice. Dara our waitress provided a suggestion to step right next door for good ole ice cream. That hit the spot. Unfortunately, quite a few had to cancel attending due to health concerns for the Corona Virus. Better to be safe, it was a great meal but not worth any potential risk. We missed those that could not attend, but we did not eat for you. Haha.
