We had over 80 parents volunteer to work on a stall or assist with the set up and clean up on the day, the day would not have been as successful without your help. Contributions from the Community were outstanding with over 100 items for the Silent Auction, over 300 cakes donated, more than 300 scones were baked fresh and 10 of our staff bravely volunteering to be dunked in the dunking machine. The weather mostly held out and many past, present and future students were at the event enjoying the rides, food, stalls and performances. A special thank you to the Spring Fair Committee have been working hard for the past 18 months to bring this event to you, it really had a community focus and was a day of celebration. Fundraising totals will be presented at the next School Council and we will be able to provide you with final numbers later in November. Requests 2020 Grades Please remember, if you have any special educational considerations for the placement of their child for next year please put these in writing and send them to your child’s current Team Leader by Friday 1 st November. Notes received after this date cannot be considered. Please see the previous Newsletter for more information regarding this. School Production Well done to the Year 3 and 5 students who participated in the Production last night. Many families, extended families and friends came to support the students as they performed on stage. It was rewarding seeing the students shine and enjoying themselves as they sang and danced with their peers, it was a great night, well done. We look forward to the Year 4 and 6 students performing tonight, break a leg! Vermont Reserve Play Equipment The Whitehorse City Council have begun works and are installing the equipment next to the Vermont Reserve. This area is accessed by the Year 3 to 6 students during lunch recess, the students are very much looking forward to playing on the equipment. The Whitehorse City Council are hoping to have fencing down today, we will let the kids know they can get out there and test it! The Council will be installing a path before Christmas and the rockwork landscaping next year after the second installation of equipment. Vermont Primary School Oval The fences are up and the works have begun. Many students are eagerly witnessing the restructuring of the slope below the basketball courts and resurfacing of the grounds. The plans continue to be on show outside the office for you to view. The project aims to be completed for the beginning of the 2020 school year. Thank you to our school community for your support in fundraising for this project. travel options to and from school are also a great opportunity to connect and chat with your kids, plus meet up with other local families along the way. If you can’t walk all the way, your child can still get involved – simply drive part way and walk, ride or scoot the rest! By participating, you could help your school win great regional prizes and you will enjoy the benefits of walking, riding and scooting to and from school! Commit to Walk to School today and build healthy habits for life. Last year, over 600 Vermont Primary School students participated, accumulating to over 12,000 walks, rides are scoots to or from school. This was an outstanding achievement and no doubt can be equalled or even surpassed this year!

Vermont Primary School Curriculum Year 5 Students are Complimentary Year 5 students have been talking about the importance of giving and receiving compliments. Did you know that for every one negative comment a person may receive, it takes seven positive ones to put the negative one aside? Did you know that starting the day on a negative remark from someone sets you up for a bad day? We wrote compliments to each other and found that sometimes giving compliments is actually not that easy. But we certainly enjoyed receiving them from our peers this week. The Year 5 students have got each other's backs and have been very supportive and we look forward to a positive Term 4. Level 4 English – Choose Your Own Adventure In our writing lessons this term, we have been making an interactive story based on a natural disaster. We worked in groups of three and mapped out our stories; making sure that we knew where each decision would take the reader. After a particular scene, the reader will have to make a choice as to what direction they would like the story to go. When the reader clicks on a link, they will be taken to a different part of the story. It is very much like a “Choose Your Own Adventure.” We have now written our interactive stories into PowerPoint.
