Stroll along the shoreline, take a trip to the isles, spend time lazing on the beach, explore the Poitevin marshes or get your fill of thrills in the various theme parks! Close to nature Take a boat trip on the Poitevin marshes in the midst of a calm and lush natural setting, where you might glimpse a heron or a red deer. Children love the zoo at Les Sables-d’Olonne, the 2 nd largest tourist destination in the department. And for those who believe in taking it easy, long sandy beaches stretch from the Ile de Noirmoutier as far as the Aiguillon Bay nature reserve. A region with a rich past Discover the Vendée History during your visits in the numerous châteaux of the department (Talmont-Saint-Hilaire, Apremont, Tiffauges and more) and explore the Logis de la Chabotterie or even the Historial de la Vendée museum in Les Lucs-sur-Boulogne, which takes you through all the major periods in History, from Prehistoric times to the 3 rd Millenium. Theme parks! The department is brimming with fantastic locations! The most well-known of all is Le Puy du Fou® , which is famous around the world. The O’Fun Park and O’Gliss Park leisure parks are also worth a visit. The more sportily inclined can go cable skiing at the Atlantic WakePark. Our other favourites - Countryside: the least-known bocage of the Vendée coast is definitely worth a visit! - Cycling: there are a large number of cycle paths that you can take to go anywhere in the department, - Delicacies: try the “Préfou” (garlic bread) as an appetiser, for a savoury and garlicky treat. The “Jambon-mogettes” (ham with white beans) is a delicious local speciality. A summer evening in Vendée would not be complete without Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie sardines served with local potatoes the famous « Bonnotte de Noirmoutier »! And for breakfast or afternoon tea: a piece of «gâche» (dense local brioche), of course. Vendée
