HOW TO BUY You have a novel accounting choice when you remanufacture: you can depreciate the vehicle all over again if we sell it back to you or treat the service as a repair expense. As a motor vehicle dealer, we can buy your first vehicle and you can use your second vehicle as a trade-in. This approach saves you sales tax (8.25% for parts & labor versus 6.25% for a vehicle). Then, decide the service level that matches your mission. The service level is a combination of deciding what to include in the remanufacturing operation and what parts to use during the work. To fine tune the service level offering, we can work with you to completely customize the remanufacturing to each vehicle.

New Depreciation Cycle or Not? Check with your CPA, but the IRS has indicated that as long as you are consistent, you can add our service to your cost basis and continue depreciation or you can treat the service as repair and expense the cost. So, you have maximum flexibility in your accounting. If you want to start a new depreciation cycle for your vehicle, sell us the vehicle, we’ll remanufacture it and resell it back to you. Otherwise, treat the expense as a repair charge and write-off the entire cost.

CAPEX and OPEX Reduction CAPEX reduction via vehicle remanufacturing is obvious – you spend less to get the same capability as new. OPEX reduction is a bit less obvious – when you reman a vehicle, all wear parts are replaced or evaluated. By replacing wear parts at the same time, maintenance costs are arrested which drives down operating expenses. Too, the need for spares goes down – you can even save on property taxes![SB1]



REMAN & RECON PROCESS The process for Reman and Recon is the same – the difference is in the Scope of Work. The SOW for Reman is much higher driven almost exclusively by the cost of the powertrain.

CASE STUDY: BOOM TRUCK Perfectly suited for its role in sign and lighting maintenance, it navigates tight parking lots with ease and without outriggers. Years of use had taken its toll on every system and subsystem. Notice the improved rake angle in the before and after photographs. Hoses and electrical lines were likewise in need of maintenance and replacement.

CASE STUDY: FLATBED Flatbeds are workhorses everywhere they go. This F-550 monster was no exception. The toolboxes got new weatherstripping. Notice the headache rack gussets added for stability and strength. In this project, the springs were replaced as indicated by the increased rake angle.
