2. The Main Objectives

• Attention has been paid to forest aesthetics mostly in urban and recreational areas, and in areas with exceptional landscape qualities. Due to the Right of Public Access to private land, forest aesthetics is also essential in the country-side. The visual appearance of forests is of major goal of forestry in case of people evaluation.

The Administration of the forest

Under the supervision of the Forestry service, the TUM is responsible for the administration of the Forest:

It aims at maintaining the provision of the many services offered in relation to the forest:

1. Protecting the Forest as an ecosystem (protection against natural and human hazards)

2. The maintenance, improvement and projection of the natural and the cultivated characteristics of the forest so that it is preserved as an ecologically sound natural resource, but also as a place where environmental sensitization whether through educational or outdoor recreation activities.

What should be undertaken

To achieve the above, the administration will undertake the following:

1. Care and improvement of the fauna and flora and any cleansing interventions required

2. Complementary planting

3. Fire protection

4. Protection against natural threats

5. Organizing the facilities infrastructure for outdoor recreation activities

6. Guarding the Forest

What the visitor can doThe Aesthetic Forest area is ideal for leisure activities such as:

1. Walking on the roads, sidewalks and paths of the region

2. Individual or collective exercising (without the use of equipment or the

necessity of an infrastructure)

3. Resting areas created for such a purpose

4. Enjoying the view from various outlooks of the area

5. Cycling through the forest roads network and paths

6. Visiting the “Klettern Center” of TUM, as well as the monuments on the

Hills.

7. Educational activities whether or not they involve schools, regarding the

natural environment and specifically the fauna and flora of our study area.

8. Organized guided tours at the Botanic Garden of TUM when possible

What is necessary

In order to make these activities possible, the following conditions are met:

1. Relatively flat areas which allow crowds to gather safely and move around freely

2. A large number of the paths are of a varied width, inclination and of accessibility consisting of a complete network for the visitors

3. The vegetation of the region is of an exceptional variety considering that the distinct parts evolve in a different manner.

4. One of the most important attractions is the area surrounding the Study area where the dense vegetation alternates with the historic olive grove, and the squares with their paths lead the visitors at various outlooks, quiet spots or places of a particular aesthetic variety.

ConclusionThe most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.“
